Avengers: Kang Dynasty Canceled?

A wild rumor offers that Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios may have canceled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty which is supposed to star Jonathan Majors as the titular character.

The flick is currently on Marvel’s slate with a May 1, 2026 release date and connects to the Loki Disney+ series and recently Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the MCU’s first real major blunder.

Marvel also has Loki Season 2, and it’s thought Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is also supposed to connect to the big Avengers: Secret Wars movie a year later, perhaps similar to how Infinity War led to Avengers: Endgame.

Of course, there is also the issue with Jonathan Majors who has been accused of domestic violence, assault, and harassment.

Update: Variety has confirmed Marvel is having issues in an article about the “Crisis at Marvel” and that Doctor Doom could be used instead:

  • The most pressing issue to be discussed at the retreat was what to do about Jonathan Majors, the actor who had been poised to carry the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe but instead is headed to a high-profile trial in New York later this month on domestic violence charges. The actor insists he is the victim, but the damage to his reputation and the chance he could lose the case has forced Marvel to reconsider its plans to center the next phase of its interlocking slate of sequels, spinoffs and series around Majors’ villainous character, Kang the Conqueror.
  • Executives discussed backup plans, including pivoting to another comic book adversary, like Dr. Doom.
  • A studio source notes that regardless of the actor’s legal issues, Marvel already had considered moving away from a Majors-led phase because of the box office performance of “Quantumania,” which will struggle to make a profit. “It gave people pause given that ‘Quantumania’ didn’t exactly land,” the source says.
  • Recasting Majors is also an option

Update #2: Director Destin Daniel Cretton has departed.

Update #3: A new writer is announced with Avengers: Secret Wars and Doctor Strange: In The Multiverse Of Madness writer Michael Waldron, leading to speculation Kang Dynasty is canceled and instead, there will be Avengers: Secret Wars Part 1 and Part 2.

Update #4: Jonathan Majors has been found guilty. Regarding recasting Majors as Kang, there is a rumor that says it’s part of the actor’s contract that he has to play all the Kang roles. However, there could be a “behavior clause” of some sort that would enable Disney to fire the actor and replace him with someone new. A previous recasting rumor has said Marvel is looking to recast Kang with an actor who is like Damson Idris, who is known for Snowfall, Swarm, Outside the Wire, Black Mirror, and more.

Update #5: It’s said Marvel has fired Jonathan Majors.

Update #6: Avengers 5 replaces Kang Dynasty.

Kevin Feige needs to get his house in order

In Grace Randolph’s video where she goes over the news that Marvel is looking for a writer for the X-Men movie, Randolph says that Feige should get his house in order first before developing X-Men.

Randolph questions how good the current Marvel projects are, as Marvel has been suffering as of late, and first mentions Thunderbolts which recently got a new writer (along with a bunch of other Marvel projects).

“I’d be like maybe you should make sure you’ve dotted your i’s and crossed all your t’s on the projects that are about to come out. Like is Thunderbolts in really good shape?” she says.

Are Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars in good shape?

Randolph also questions both Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars (where it’s said they lost their writers, and Secret Wars doesn’t have a director as of yet).

She continues, “How is Kang Dynasty coming along? Is Secret Wars actually good? If Secret Wars isn’t good, I don’t even know what to say to that if that falls through.”

Marvel suffering from problems

Randolph also mentions the problems surrounding Marvel.

Secret Invasion and I think some of the other things they’ve done lately like She-Hulk and Quantumania… That’s right, that’s right… the Rick and Morty writers, they’ve just shaken my confidence a little bit in Marvel,” says Randolph.

Randolph adds, “Maybe you guys get your house in order and then you do the X-Men quite frankly.”

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty no longer happening?

Regarding Avengers: The Kang Dynasty possibly being canceled, Grace says she hasn’t heard anything about the movie as of late and since it’s not in production, she questions if it will still get made and adds it’s not needed because of Deadpool 3.

“TVA is leading into Secret Wars… I don’t even know if Kang Dynasty is still getting made, quite frankly. I haven’t heard anything about [the movie],” she says. “I just, I don’t know… although I must say lots of Jonathan Majors coming your way very soon… I gotta be careful…”

Randolph does say Marvel is not canceling anything because of what is going on with Jonathan Majors but she says projects may get the axe that haven’t been filmed yet (Ironheart has also been yanked from the MCU release schedule).

“So far Marvel is not going to put anything through the shredder let’s say because of current events but things that haven’t filmed yet, I think do hang in the balance,” says Randolph.

She continues, “I think Quantumania wasn’t great. I don’t think they need to do Kang Dynasty. Also, they’re so behind and they have so many other things they have to do.”

Avengers: Kang Dynasty not needed because of Deadpool 3

Randolph adds how Deadpool 3 directly connects to Avengers: Secret Wars.

“Also once people see Deadpool 3, they’re gonna be like ‘Uh, well I just want to see Secret Wars. I don’t need to see anything before that,’ so [Deadpool 3] is going to so specifically set up Secret Wars,” she says.
