Kevin Michael Richardson To Voice Groot In Guardians of the Galaxy Animated Series

Disney has announced that Kevin Michael Richardson will be the voice of Groot in the Guardians of the Galaxy animated series.

You can watch video above of Richardson making the announcement.

Kevin Michael Richardson is known for voicing characters in Family Guy, The Simpsons, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Teen Titans Go!, Ben 10 and lots more.

It probably should be noted that contrary to attempts made by the series’ executives, both James Gunn and the Guardians of the Galaxy movie have nothing to do with the series.

Mark Ruffalo Talks Hulk In The Avengers 2

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19253:]]

Yesterday saw Robert Downey Jr. talk about Iron Man 4 and Captain America 3 and the Vision, now Empire catches up with Mark Ruffalo about the Hulk.

Ruffalo offers up where Bruce Banner is at when Avengers 2 begins:

I think he’s definitely matured a little bit since the last one. He’s become more acclimated to this thing and to being part of the team. I think he feels more a part of them all.

And on Hulk and Banner in Avengers 2:

Hulk is the kind of wild card. He’s the loose cannon of the group. He’s more like an atom bomb. You could guess where he’s going to go but he could go either way.

There’s a battle going on between these two opposing egos that live inside him. He’s definitely worried that the day is going to come when the Hulk gets the best of him, and maybe won’t release him, maybe won’t give him back. The Hulk knows this too. There’s a moment in here where he, begrudgingly, decides to go back to Banner. Who knows where these things will go, but as Bruce is able to impress his will on the Hulk, going into The Hulk and being inside the Hulk when he’s raging, The Hulk’s will is also growing and able to impress upon Bruce. That makes for some wild things. We’re laying the groundwork for that here. It’ll be interesting to see if that ends up being what would be the next Hulk movie.

About a potential Hulk movie:

Who knows, really? That’s such an amorphous thing. Nobody has talked to me about that yet. It seems people want it, but it’s tough. They’ve already done two of ‘em, and they’ve only done two Thors, they had a nice run on Iron Man. I feel like they have their plates full. There’s probably other people they’re keen on doing but I think people have shown that they’re ready to see another one.

Watch: “One on One” Superman Short Film

Check out a cool Superman short film above with One On One.

The film was actually posted a few years ago to YouTube, back in 2012, about a year prior to Man of Steel.

It’s a really touching portrayal of Clark Kent and Superman done by Jake Thomas who obviously gets what being a super man is all about.

Nicely done.

One on One stars Erin Brown and John Nagle.

Described as:

Is it possible to believe in Superman and what he stands for, or is he mere child’s fantasy? “One on One,” the new fan film from director Jake Thomas, is a brilliant iteration of an ageless icon, a superhero film unlike any other.

Sarah, a runaway fourteen year-old in the city of Metropolis, encounters a persistent newspaper reporter named Clark Kent who won’t leave her alone until she agrees to an interview for his newspaper column. Ten questions — that’s all he asks. In their moments together, the fragments of her tragic life emerge, but her anger towards superheroes and Superman himself explodes in full force. If he is so great and so powerful, why is the world such a horrible place? Why doesn’t he do something about it? Does he even exist? In the end, the two realize that even when there are no easy answers, it’s possible to “look up in the sky” with hopeful eyes.

Watch: The Joker Revealed On Gotham

Last night on Gotham saw what may eventually be The Joker.

Above you can watch the clip from the episode where The Joker is revealed, with an obvious spoiler warning.

So is Jerome, fabulously played by Cameron Monaghan, the actual Joker?

Well, it turns out Gotham might be trolling us a little bit as executive producer Bruno Heller hints Jerome might more or less actually be the Joker’s father (at least, IMO).

From EOnline:

I can tell you this is a long game plan and a long story that we are telling here. What I can promise you is this is not a bait-and-switch. This is not someone who is just a character who is going to disappear. This is not a red herring. It’s the beginning of the story of how the Joker came to be, how the Joker was created, where he came from, who he is. Now, that doesn’t necessarily mean that Cameron Monaghan is the Joker. He might be. But like I say, this is a story that begins about seven or eight years before the actual Joker arrives on the scene in his fully-fledged persona. As we’re telling with all of these characters, the origin story of that villain begins Monday.

I want to reiterate for those fans who might think that we are playing games, this is not a game. This is not a trick. It’s the beginning of the Joker saga.

As we see, it’s stated this is the beginning of Joker and not necessarily the Joker.

Scarlett Johansson Talks Why Black Widow

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19244:]]

We’ve seen the images from W Magazine, now check out what Scarlett Johansson has to say about playing Black Widow.

“People were surprised that I wanted to play a comic book heroine. But I loved Iron Man, and I met with Marvel to see what was possible. I had done my research, and the Black Widow character resonated with me. She is dark and has faced death so many times that she has a deep perspective on the value of life. In the sequel, you learn more about the sadness in her past. I think of her that way. Black Widow is a superhero, but she’s also human. She’s small, but she’s strong. It’s hard not to admire her. She packs a big punch. We all try to fight the forces of evil. Like Black Widow, you have to keep trying. The challenge is always there.”

Scarlett Johansson can next be seen as Black Widow in The Avengers: Age Of Ultron out May 1st and then in Captain America: Civil War out May 6, 2016.

Captain America 3 Is Not Iron Man 4 Says Robert Downey Jr.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19242:]]

Captain America: Civil War is set for May 2016 which will pit Captain America vs Iron Man and will introduce Black Panther and Spider-Man officially into the Marvel cinematic universe.

While speaking with Empire Online, Robert Downey Jr. offers details why he decided to be featured in the movie and also says it’s not Iron Man 4.

Ultimately it’s Steve’s story; it doesn’t say ‘Iron Man 4: Civil War’. I think that’s great too. I think Chris [Evans] has been hungry to bring even more of an underside and some shadow to that. I remember the comics – on the surface you got the sense that Cap was baseball and apple pie, but underneath there was all this churning stuff of being a man out of time. Now we know he’s made his peace with that. What’s the bigger issue? It can have a little something to do with the past, but it can be about someone becoming more modernized in their own conflict.

I’m crazy about Evans. I really am. I don’t know why or how to explain this particular kinship we have. By the way, he hasn’t called me in six months. Honestly, in order for this whole thing to have worked, I did my part, Hemsworth knocked it out of the stadium and then it fell on Cap. That was the riskiest. It was the one that had the highest degree of difficulty in making it translate to a modern audience. It was the Russos and Chris who, I think, really hit the line drive and won the series. I remember glancing through it going, “Wow, that’s a different way to go”. They said, “If we have you, we can do this or Cap 3 has to be something else”. It’s nice to feel needed.

And when they pitched it to me and when I had a couple of ideas and when they said we like those ideas, let’s do those. Then there’s all this competition too. I don’t do this because I look at it as a competition, but I look at the marketplace and go, ‘Maybe if these two franchises teamed up and I can take even a lesser position in support, with people I like and directors I respect, maybe we can keep things bumping along here a little longer than they might have’.

“Captain America: Civil War” has a May 6, 2016 release date directed by Anthony and Joe Russo starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo and Chadwick Boseman.

Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans can next be seen in The Avengers: Age Of Ultron out May 1, 2015.

Robert Downey Jr. Talks The Vision In Avengers 2

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19240:]]

Paul Bettany is set to suit up as Vision in The Avengers: Age Of Ultron, and for the first time will be seen on camera fighting alongside Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man.

Robert Downey Jr. recently spoke with Empire Online and offered the following about the Vision in Avengers 2:

[Jon] Favreau was visiting the set and went, ‘JARVIS, what did they fuckin’ do to you?’ I would maybe see Bettany on the street or at a premiere party, maybe. And the suit? Everybody has to pay their pound of flesh. I remember on Iron Man 2 when Cheadle came out in the Mark II, it’s the least comfortable suit, by their own admission, designed for any movie and he came out and stopped the party. I looked at him and it was right before lunch and he’d been in it for three hours. I thought, ‘Poor Don’, but you gotta do it. And for Bettany, they did a number on him with this absolutely awesome Ultron look, and it also reminded me of the times when I’ve been in special effects make-up. The very first thing he had to do was perch on the end of a precipitous ledge and stand up at the right time with the wind blowing and look right down the barrel, and 20 other things were happening, and it was like, ‘Yep, welcome’. But when – and I won’t give much of anything away – Vision gets to express and enter and find his place in earnest respect on the playing field, it was like an exceptionally well-executed, poetic, badass, “Aha!” moment for all of us. Joss was very particular about that in a different way than he was with Jimmy. I think people are going to get a kick out of the creative decisions about how Vision fits in.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19241:]]

NINO Selling Under 20K: Bring Back Richard Rider As Nova

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19237:]]

NINO is now selling under the Marvel cancellation threshold (at least what used to be) as January’s issue #26 sold only 19,639 copies.

That number is, again, less than the Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning’s 2007 Richard Rider Nova series, which sold 28,096 with the same issue back in June 2009.

Bear in mind, Marvel Editorial never gave DnA’s Nova (or Guardians of the Galaxy) any promotion or attention. And get this: When the Guardians of the Galaxy movie became known, Marvel editorial actually cancelled all of DnA’s cosmic stuff and sent them packing.

Both James Gunn and Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige have stated in interviews that Abnett and Lanning’s Guardians is the inspiration for the almost-billion dollar Marvel movie, and Gunn even had them visit the set and got them back on the movie tie-in comics.

Meanwhile, Dan Buckley, David Gabriel, Joe Quesada, Axel Alonso, Tom Brevoort, Jeph Loeb, Stephen Wacker and Brian Michael Bendis (IMO) put the screws to DnA and took over their stuff.

I’ve said it again, but it’s worth repeating: Marvel Comics must be such a nice company to work for – and what a great boss Alonso must be – when you get fired for inspiring billion dollar Marvel movies.

Getting back to NINO, there is speculation amongst fans that Marvel was attempting to create another Spider-Man as Marvel Studios didn’t hold any of the rights to the character. It’s suggested Marvel was trying to repeat Spider-Man’s success with NINO, which obviously didn’t happen. Now that Marvel Studios does have Spider-Man in part back, can we now end the failed experiment that is NINO?

With NINO now selling less than 20k, isn’t it time to bring back Richard Rider?

From a fan perspective, it’s obvious Richard Rider is the choice of Nova.

I would also say from a business perspective, the right choice would be to go with Richard Rider. It’s already known the Richard Rider Infinite action figure outsold all the Guardians of the Galaxy movie characters – and Nova wasn’t in the movie. Rider is the fan’s choice to be Nova in the Marvel Heroes 2015 video game, and now at Toy Fair, a new Richard Rider Nova action figure was just revealed.

Just think if DnA’s Nova – that outsold NINO – had received half the attention that NINO did.

NINO was featured in Marvel Infinite Comics, Avengers issues and tie-ins, big Marvel events, not to mention the Disney Ultimate Spider-Man series.

Nova didn’t receive any of that and still sold better.

Let’s bring back Richard Rider as Nova, Marvel.

Looks Like We Have A New Richard Rider Nova Toy

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19236:]]

Coming out of the Toy Fair, it looks as if we have a new Richard Rider Nova toy.

Hasbro revealed their Marvel Super Hero Mashers and Titans figures where we see a Nova, which looks a lot like Nova Prime Richard Rider.

Though Marvel Comics cancelled the Richard Rider Nova comic book because of the Guardians of the Galaxy movie, the Richard Rider Nova action figure that was a part of the Marvel Infinite movie line actually sold the best (even better than Rocket Raccoon and Iron Man). Likewise, fans chose Richard Rider to be the Nova of choice for the Marvel Heroes 2015 video game.

Now in what looks to be a no-brainer, new Richard Rider Nova action figures look to be coming out.

Marvel Comics replaced Richard Rider with a Spider-Man-ish character that fans call NINO aka Nova In Name Only. Sales on NINO quickly fell below the Richard Rider run, and Jeph Loeb, who was responsible for replacing the true Nova, was off the book by issue five.

No Green Lantern For John Diggle In Arrow

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19202:]]

Bad news for fans of Arrow and David Ramsey that thought John Diggle might be a Green Lantern or even John Stewart.

Showrunner Marc Guggenheim responded to the notion that Diggle might become a Green Lantern following an interview where David Ramsey confirmed talks about it.

Guggenheim rains on everybody’s parade by saying it isn’t happening.

“It’s funny, I’ve spoken to David quite a bit about this issue, I know it keeps coming up,” Guggenheim told MTV. “I spoke to [writer] Geoff Johns at DC after that interview went viral. Basically, John Diggle is now a character in the comics… John Diggle is John Diggle. We’re not being coy and saying John Diggle is someone else, i.e. John Stewart. DC has other plans for that character. We love David, and we love the character of John Diggle that he’s created. We have really cool plans for him… they involve a wedding ring, but they don’t involve a power ring.”

While Diggle may not be a Green Lantern, Guggenheim does tease that current characters may become DC heroes.

“There are two characters who would probably fall into that category,” he said. “Were we to do it, they would be characters from the comics that you already know.”

Arrow airs Wednesdays on the CW.

FOX TV Adapting 215 Ink’s Enormous

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19195:]]

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19196:]]

20th Century Fox Television and New Regency Television are teaming up with producer Adrian Askarieh’s Prime Universe Films to embark on the development of an event-series based on the best-selling action/horror comic book Enormous from publisher 215 Ink and creators Tim Daniel and Mehdi Cheggour. (Enormous Vol.1 still available for order from Diamond – Previews code JAN151627)

Set in the near future, the comic book series finds the world suffering a planetary resource crisis when a vast ecological cataclysm spawns The Enormous, massive beasts unlike anything ever witnessed. Displaced from atop the food-chain, humankind struggles to stave off extinction, and a shattered society scrambles for refuge in the wake of the monstrous rampage.

Amid the ashes of Phoenix, Ariz., Ellen Grace, a former school teacher who lost everything and everyone she loved in the uprising, leads a search and rescue team into the ruins of the city in hopes of locating children orphaned by the cataclysm. But not all the remaining humans seek salvation, and in a world dominated by monsters, man is still the most dangerous animal of all.

Enormous debuted to critical praise in July 2014 and has achieved repeated release-day sellouts in its first six issues, with the first issue requiring a second printing. Strong secondary-market sales have driven interest in the series that continues to defy industry sales trends, with the final issue of the first arc outselling the initial offering.

Andrew Poltkin of New Regency Television and Adrian Askarieh of Prime Universe Films will serve as executive producers for the series. The search is on for a top show-runner.

Enormous originally debuted as an oversized one-shot graphic novella in 2012 and later served as the basis for a groundbreaking live-action short web film from Machinima (watch beow) – written by André Øvredal, director of “Trollhunter;” directed by Ben David Grabinski,  and produced by Askarieh’s Prime Universe Films, Pure Imagination Studios and Machinima.
