Following King of the Monsters, up next in Legendary’s MonsterVerse is Godzilla vs. Kong, which will touch upon the origins of the monsters in relation to Skull Island and maybe even Mechagodzilla.
With King of the Monsters now out on digital (Blu-Ray Aug. 27), fans have been posting screenshots on Reddit, with one fan gathering up those newspaper headlines and articles that tease possibly what is to come in the next movie.
The newspaper articles look to pertain to Godzilla vs. Kong as they reference Skull Island, Monarch boosting forces around the Island, the Island possibly being the origin of Titans, Godzilla battling Kong, and maybe even Mechagodzilla of all things.
What is particularly cool is that if Skull Island is the source of the Titans, according to the info found below, that may mean that Kong (and his family) may literally have been (or is) King of the Titans.
The official movie synopsis found below also seems to tie into the newspaper articles and offers further clues as to the plot.
Check out the info:
New Titans Drawn to Skull Island
“New Titans Drawn to Skull Island,” the headline reads. While the full article isn’t shown, the article continues with “Home of Kong seems to be the epicenter of titan sightings.” The article also says, “Many are shocked as Godzilla, once believe to be a menace to society, chooses to fight against monsters terrorizing human populations. Previously…” and then the article gets cut off.
Worth a note is that this seems to be teasing that Skull Island is the home of Kong and that Skull Island is the central point of the sightings of the Titans.
Monarch to explore Hollow Earth
Another article is titled, “Monarch to explore Hollow Earth: Monster hunters seek origins of Titans beneath Skill Island.” What is shown for the article doesn’t go into detail regarding Skull Island, but it is about Monarch being revealed to the public.
Another is also titled, “Ancient ‘Hallow Earth’ Humans Coexisted with Titans: Monarch files reveal ancient civilization lived with Titans – so can we?'”
A website address is also shown, http://wpkw26.com, but it is presently not working and leads to a page parked at Warner Bros. so maybe it will be used as part of Godzilla vs. Kong‘s viral marketing?
Worth a mention is that it seems to tease that Skull Island is the origins of the Titans.
Godzilla Keeps Titans In Check
Two more articles add fuel to the fire as one offers, “Godzilla Keeps Titans In Check: King of the Monsters defends cities from attacks, keeps ‘natural order.'”
The second (from the fake website) offers, “Ancient Rivalries between Titans suspected.”
Obviously, this is foreshadowing Godzilla vs Kong in the movie and possibly more.
Seismic Disturbances Reported on Skull Island
A tweet from “ABC” also states, “Seismic Disturbances Reported on Skull Island: Island’s ability to foster enormous wildlife, including Kong, has researchers baffled.”
Again, this seems to be teasing Skull Island as the epicenter and origin for the Titans.
Monarch Boosts Forces Around Skull Island
Another article says, “Monarch Boosts Forces Around Skull Island: Mysterious island becoming unstable?”
This article gives perhaps the most recent update to Godzilla vs. Kong as it says in part, “Recent reports indicate that in the past several months, Monarch agents and troops have been gathering around the ominous Skull Island at an alarming rate. Several teams of geologists were sent to investigate the island and claim it is ‘unlike any other geological formation’ they have ever seen. Skull Island has a unique history in regards to Titans and many suspect it to be the home of Kong, the worlds largest primate. What does it mean?”
Again, we see the article teases that the possible origin of the Titans is the home of Kong, which may mean he’s King of the Titans, and the article continues with more of the same:
…deeper questions that everyone has. What is Skull Island? Why is it so important to Monarch, an agency solely tasked with the management, and previously, the coverup, of the giant monsters we now know as Titans? This lack of transparency in the past has lead to many continuing suspicions about the intentions of the agency. Many suspect that Skull Island is some sort of birthplace for the Titans, a sort of hotspot for Titan…
Mechagodzilla or something else?
What can be read from the rest of the article is rather interesting as it mentions a “mechanized giant,” meaning Mechagodzilla or something else (a hybrid? a Jaeger?) and possibly gives big clues to the plot:
…or even be used as a tool for war against other humans. De La Rosa went on to claim that Monarch was not only developing this mechanized giant on Skull Island, but had already tried to create organic Titans in the past, and that they are the cause of several of the recent Titan incidents. He is part of a group that believes that the Muto attack was an inside job and that the whole thing was an attempt by Monarch to scare the public and rum up support…
Cave Paintings of Titans Resembling King and Godzilla
Another article is also titled, “What is a King to a God? Cave Paintings of Titans Resembling King and Godzilla Discovered.” but doesn’t go into more details, suggesting Godzilla and (a) Kong have previously been in contact.
More clues:
The Kong: Skull Island movie did reveal the bones of Kong’s parents to be huge:
A recent poster also teases that Kong is all grown up:
The official plot synopsis also offers why Godzilla may battle Kong and more:
In a time when monsters walk the Earth, humanity’s fight for its future sets Godzilla and Kong on a collision course that will see the two most powerful forces of nature on the planet collide in a spectacular battle for the ages. As Monarch embarks on a perilous mission into uncharted terrain and unearths clues to the Titans’ origins, a human conspiracy threatens to wipe the creatures, both good and bad, from the face of the earth forever.
I’m not going to go into spoilers, but putting all the above info together basically lays out the plot of the flick, but exactly what happens remains to be seen. Things should come off pretty cool by the sound of it.
One newspaper headline also seems to tease that (a) Mothra may have survived:
Godzilla vs Kong gets released March 13, 2020 directed by Adam Wingard.
The film stars Alexander Skarsgård (“Big Little Lies,” The Little Drummer Girl”), Millie Bobby Brown (“Stranger Things”), Rebecca Hall (“Christine,” “Professor Marston and the Wonder Women”), Brian Tyree Henry (“Atlanta,” “Widows”), Shun Oguri (“Gintama”), Eiza González (“Baby Driver”), Jessica Henwick (“Iron Fist”), Julian Dennison (“Deadpool 2”), with Kyle Chandler (“The Wolf of Wall Street,” “Manchester by the Sea”) and Demián Bichir (“The Nun,” “The Hateful Eight”).
