Disney / Marvel Axes X-Men: Danger Room Protocols Fan Series

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23998:]]

Well, that is all she wrote for the X-Men: Danger Room Protocols web series meant to be a homage to the 90s cartoon.

Following the debut of the initial episode, Disney/Marvel has put a stop to the project citing copyright issues.

The creator of the series has posted a video on YouTube stating it’s cancelled.

Joel Furtado states he spent a year creating the project and all his money, and that he can’t afford to get into a legal battle with Marvel.

“I’m sort of being forced at this time to shut down and remove all the episodes and content to do with the series,” Furtado said, and then went on to thank the fans for their support.

“When I set out to make this project, I never really thought this was going to be an issue,” Furtado continued. “I didn’t think that Marvel was going to react this way, and this outcome, for me, is a little bit shocking. Just giving the precedent on the internet of how much fan art is made on a daily basis by thousands of people…. I never thought I would be treated differently.”

It’s possible Furtado might be able to put the video back up if he claims it’s a parody. The Supreme Court has ruled parody and satire come under Fair Use. Of course, Furtado could still face an uphill legal battle with Disney, which he obviously wants to avoid.

“The most heartbreaking thing of this entire experience isn’t even that I have to throw out this entire project in the garbage, or that I wasted all my money making this,” explained Furtado. “The most heartbreaking thing is that this company that I’ve idolized my entire life, and I’m finally meeting for the first time professionally, and this is the experience that we’ve gone through, where now Marvel’s looking at me like I’m an enemy to them. And that’s never what I wanted.”

CBR reached out to Marvel who declined to comment.

Sounds Like Hugh Jackman Wolverine Cameo For X-Men: Apocalypse

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23948:]]

In addition to a heavily speculated appearance in next month’s Deadpool movie, it’s again being said Hugh Jackman may also appear in X-Men: Apocalypse as Wolverine.

About three months ago saw word hit that Hugh Jackman is participating in reshoots for X-Men: Apocalypse.

Now set visit reports have hit the net, and while none of them confirm the appearance of Hugh Jackman in X-Men: Apocalypse, they neither discount the rumor.

The Collider reports:

No one would confirm or deny whether Hugh Jackman has a cameo in the film as Wolverine—out of everything, this was the tightest secret kept on set.

Obviously it seems if it’s a “tight kept secret,” it more than likley confirms the involvement of Jackman in some capacity.

Hugh Jackman is supposed to be retiring from the Wolverine role re-teaming with James Mangold for a 2017 untitled Wolverine film (featuring possibly Old Man Logan, bersker rage and Sabretooth); however, the actor recently took to his social networks to tease a “Wolverine 4.”

“X-Men: Apocalypse” has a May 27, 2016 release directed by Bryan Singer starring James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Oscar Isaac, Nicholas Hoult, Rose Byrne, Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, Olivia Munn, Lucas Till, Evan Peters, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Alexandra Shipp, Josh Helman, Lana Condor & Ben Hardy.

How About Daniel Radcliffe As Wolverine?

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23849:]]

With Hugh Jackman retiring from the Wolverine role (or not), who should be the next actor to play the role?

I’ve previously recommended Tom Hardy (as has Hugh Jackman), but now fans on Reddit have brought up another name — Harry Potter‘s Daniel Radcliffe.

Before you snub your nose at the thought, bear in mind Radcliffe is arguably closer to the comic book version of Wolverine than Hugh Jackman, as Radcliffe is a lot shorter in real life (and just as hairy).

As some of the fans pointed out, pack some muscle on Daniel Radcliffe, and we might have our next Wolverine.

Regarding Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Hugh Jackman is thought to be appearing in Deadpool, possibly participated in reshoots for X-Men: Apocalypse and will star in the sequel to The Wolverine in 2017. Jackman may have also teased Wolverine 4.

Legion TV Series Not Set In X-Men Movie Universe

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22513:]]

It’s learned the FOX Legion series that is currently in development will not be connected to the movie universe and also won’t feature any of the same characters.

FX President John Landgraf spoke at the Television Critics Association revealing new details.

“It’s not in the continuity of those films in the sense the current X-Men films take place in a universe in which everybody on planet Earth is aware of the existence of mutants,” Landgraf said, reports IGN. “The series Legion takes place in a parallel universe, if you will, in which the US government is in the early days of being aware that something called mutants exist but the public is not. I wouldn’t foresee characters moving back and forth because they really are parallel universes.”

“It’s still in process but I think at the moment they’re all new characters,” Landraf revealed. “But I’m not 100% sure that’ll be the case by the time it airs.”

It’s also revealed Legion might be released this year and will be ten episodes set back “a few years in the past” or so.

“We’re quite well along. We’ve had a writing staff working. We’ve seen not only the pilot but several episodes and we’re well in process of casting,” Landgraf said. “I would anticipate that Legion would go on the air some time in 2016, this year.”

Legion centers on the mutant schizophrenic son of Professor Xavier, David Haller (at least in the comics);  Legion showrunner Noah Hawley previously offered the following about the character.

“What I really like about him is, here’s a character who is schizophrenic on some level, a character struggling with mental illness. Is he crazy or does he have these powers? The answer is, kind of both. I’m a big believer that the structure of a story should reflect the content of the story. And so I liked the idea that if you have a character that doesn’t know what’s real and what’s not real, that is also the audience’s journey.”

Simon Kinberg also compared Legion to Breaking Bad.

Rob Liefeld Wants Jon Hamm To Play Cable

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23747:]]

With the X-Force movie looking like it got shelved, worry not as there is still New Mutants and Deadpool as possible movies that could feature Cable.

So who should play the time-travelling mutant?

Cable creator Rob Liefeld weighed in on Twitter and recommended Jon Hamm.

“Yes! Jon Hamm, Dream Future Cable pick, wins for Mad Men!” Liefeld tweeted.

As noted, Jon Hamm just won the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Television Series Drama for Mad Men.

Regarding the future of Cable in the X-Men movie universe, Deadpool director Tim Miller all but confirmed Cable for the sequel.

“There aren’t really many definitive Deadpool villains, apart from Cable,” Miller told Empire Magazine. “If we don’t put Cable in Deadpool 2 I think we’ll be run out of town on a rail.”

Bryan Singer Breaks Down X-Men: Apocalypse Trailer

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23263:]]

With the release of the new X-Men: Apocalypse trailer comes the following details as director Bryan Singer breaks down the footage. Singer also participated in a Twitter Q&A.

Via EW.com:

On Sophie Turner as Jean Grey:

“It’s all about their potential. Jean has a special connection with Xavier, she has a special connection with the psychic world and she has enormous untapped power that’s growing. The take I used for the movie is a less sincere take. In the movie it’s an intense moment, a psychic moment happens between [Jean and Charles] and the take is a much more suspicious take.”

On Alexandra Shipp as Storm:

“…she’s looking for a mother and a father and the village she lost”

On the new younger versions of the mutants (includes Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, Lana Condor as Jubilee, Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler):

“It was important to show that these are kids,. There’s no way anybody can get in there but them, and do what needs to be done, and yet they’re kids…[Mystique] works alone. The very last thing she wants to be is in charge of a group of young mutants. But we find everybody at a certain place in the movie and take them to the very opposite of where they started.”

On Tomar Lemarquis as Caliban:

“bald and has funky eyes. He’s a great character. Really cool.”

On Evan Peters as Quicksilver:

“There’s one sequence that took one and a half months to shoot for three minutes of film. It involves the most complex camera moves, very sophisticated explosive algorithms, 3D Phantom cameras travelling at 50mph while shooting at 3,100 frames per second. Evan worked more days on this movie than any other actor because of this one sequence.”

On Michael Fassbender as Magneto (you can read more specific details/spoilers here):

“[Apocalypse] found Erik at the most vulnerable place in his life. He’s searching for God. Remember, he was a young Jew in a concentration camp when he first lost his family and now here comes this man who was, is, or claims to be God. The power of persuasion is Apocalypse’s greatest power.”

On Magneto as a Horseman:

“He’s one of the most pivotal characters. Fassbender really delivers here in non-traditional comic book style. There are scenes here you will not see in any other comic book movie. I really think Erik goes through one of the most complex journeys in the movie.”

On James McAvoy as Charles Xavier Vs. Oscar Isaac as Apocalypse:

“The two of them really go at it,” Singer said of Charles’ fight scene with a (literally) growing Apocalypse. “The end of the movie becomes an all-out battle with a force that’s very formidable. He’s a hard man to break, Apocalypse. It’s why he thinks he’s God.”

On the size of Apocalypse:

“…couldn’t go full Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man where he’s just Giant Apocalypse, swatting at things. I did something a little interesting in how I addressed the size thing, but I think the audience will get a kick out of it.”

On Charles Xavier:

“I wanted to remind the audience that this isn’t just the climax of three movies. It’s the climax of six movies, beginning with X-Men 1…It’s the original chair from the first movie – we bought it from a collector.”

On the destruction seen taking place in the movie and NYC:

“It’s not just New York, it’s all over the world,” he said, referring to cyclones hitting the Big Apple. “They’ll be visually different than things you’ve seen in these kinds of destructive movies, like Roland Emmerich’s films or Michael Bay’s. There are large-scale setpieces.”

“X-Men: Apocalypse” has a May 27, 2016 release directed by Bryan Singer starring James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Oscar Isaac, Nicholas Hoult, Rose Byrne, Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, Olivia Munn, Lucas Till, Evan Peters, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Alexandra Shipp, Josh Helman, Lana Condor & Ben Hardy.

Bigger X-Men: Apocalypse Trailer Coming & New Poster Released

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23253:]]

I felt the X-Men: Apocalypse trailer released earlier this morning was actually pretty decent. For one, even though the look of Apocalypse has been met with a lot of initial disdain and comparisons to Ivan Oooze, Apocalypse in the trailer looked better than the first promo images and thankfully wasn’t bright purple.

Now with the first trailer release, Bryan Singer lets it be known a new one will be coming next year, which he states will be even bigger than this one. Singer also talks a bit about what the story is about as the X-Men: Apocalypse Twitter Q&A has kicked off.

A new poster has also been released.

Check out the video:

With the release of the new X-Men: Apocalypse trailer, an interview has been released featuring Michael Fassbender, Oscar Isaac and Olivia Munn.
