Avengers Thanos Actor Spotted On Captain America: Civil War Set

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20747:]]

To date, at least in my opinion, Thanos’ appearance in The Avengers post-credit tease has yet to be topped.

Damion Poitier portrayed the Mad Titan for The Avengers, and with a simple smile revealed more about Thanos than James Gunn did in Guardians of the Galaxy and Whedon did with The Avengers 2 (CGI with Brolin voice).

Now the actor that portrayed Thanos in The Avengers movie, Damion Poitier, has been spotted on the set of Captain America: Civil War in an unknown role (note: Poitier isn’t playing Thanos anymore).

Poitier is also known for doing stunt work – he was a stuntman on Thor 2 – so he could be back doing stunts for Captain America: Civil War as well.

Poitier did previously state he was in talks for a legit Marvel role, so this could be it.

Watch: Guardians of the Galaxy Josh Brolin VFX Breakdown Video

Check out a visual effects breakdown video above for Josh Brolin’s Thanos in the Guardians of the Galaxy movie.

Luma Pictures is responsible for the VFX.

For Marvel’s distinctive space opera, Luma topped the mix of CG environments and FX, with their creation of Thanos – one of the most notorious and powerful super villains of the Marvel Universe.

Brolin was also featured as Thanos at the end of Avengers 2. It will be interesting to see if Thanos shows up in more of the Marvel movies as we head toward Avengers: Infinity War.

Regarding Thanos in Avengers 2, Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige explained Thanos wasn’t in Odin’s vault and there are two Infinity Gauntlet gloves.

It’s also probable Thanos could be featured in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, which hits May 5, 2017.

The Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 kicks off May 4, 2018.

George Takei Calls Out Marvel; Taylor Swift Does A Better Job

Taylor Swift “Bad Blood”

Marvel is definitely feeling the heat for not having a female superhero movie.

Earlier saw Mark Ruffalo call out Marvel regarding the lack of Black Widow merchandise for his daughters.

To add to that, Marvel and Hasbro changed an Avengers 2 toy that removed Black Widow from the motorcycle scene as well.

Now George Takei is at it.

Takei called out Marvel regarding the new Taylor Swift music video for her latest song “Bad Blood,” which is a sci-fi romp done in the style of Sin City featuring celebrities galore.

“Taylor Swift released her much anticipated video Bad Blood starring girl celebs as action stars,” Takei tweeted. “Come on Marvel, T. Swift is showing you up.”

The tweet was retweeted over 2200 times and favorited almost 2000 times.

Marvel has yet to make a superhero female movie, but plans are underway. While it won’t star Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, it will feature Carol Danvers as Captain Marvel, though it’s not due out for another three years. Marvel also recently introduced Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch for some added girl power in The Avengers: Age Of Ultron as well.

It’s unknown why Marvel won’t go with a solo Black Widow movie; Scarlett Johansson has already proven she can be a bigger draw than both Captain America and Thor. Johansson’s Lucy netted more than both of the pair of Assemblers first solo films, and it wasn’t even Marvel related. One would think Black Widow would be an even bigger draw if you add the Marvel fanbase to the Lucy numbers.

Marvel, you know you are in trouble when Taylor Swift is showing you up.

Paramount Wants Star Trek To Be More Like Avengers

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20665:]]

With The Avengers grossing $1.5 billion for Disney, every movie studio wants to follow suit.

The latest is from Simon Pegg who offers the reason the latest Star Trek movie script was rewritten is because executives at Paramount wondered why Star Trek Into Darkness didn’t come close to The Avengers.

“[The Avengers], which is a pretty nerdy, comic-book, supposedly niche thing, made $1.5 billion dollars. Star Trek: Into Darkness made half a billion, which is still brilliant,” Pegg told the Radio Times (via The Guardian). “But it means that, according to the studio, there’s still $1 billion worth of box office that don’t go and see Star Trek. And they want to know why.”

So according to Pegg, the reason for the script rewrite for Star Trek 3 is that the original version was too much like Star Trek for regular fans.

“They had a script for Star Trek that wasn’t really working for them. I think the studio was worried that it might have been a little bit too Star Trek-y,” Pegg offered.

Pegg went on to explain the reasoning.

“People don’t see it being a fun, brightly coloured, Saturday night entertainment like the Avengers,” adding that the solution was to “make a western or a thriller or a heist movie, then populate that with Star Trek characters so it’s more inclusive to an audience that might be a little bit reticent.”

Pegg also confirmd the title for the third film to be Star Trek Beyond.

Star Wars & Avengers Join Forces For Industrial Light & Magic Image

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20645:]]

Check out a gatefold image from Wired for the 40th Anniversary of LucasFilm Industrial Light & Magic featuring some of the well known characters and creators from the various movies ILM has worked on.

We see characters from Star Wars, where the old meets the new with Yoda and the new bot from The Force Awakens, BB-8, in addition to George Lucas, Kathleen Kennedy, and JJ Abrams; a Velociraptor from Jurassic Park, and Steven Spielberg and ET. That also looks to be Ant-Man standing on the “I.”

The second image features Bumblebee and Michael Bay from the Transformers franchise; Star Wars: Episode VIII director Rian Johnson; Ron Howard; Guillermo del Toro; a T-1000 Terminator, and Rango.

The third image features the Hulk and Iron Man from the Avengers; Lynwen Brennan of Avatar; Gore Verbinski with Davey Jones from Pirates of the Caribbean; Colin Trevorrow of Jurassic World, and Duncan Jones of Warcraft, in addition to Slimer from Ghosbusters.

Industrial Light & Magic started when Fox finally greenlit Star Wars by giving George Lucas $25,000 to finish the screenplay; however, Fox had no special effects division of their own – so Lucas went out and created one.

“Industrial Light & Magic was born in a sweltering warehouse behind the Van Nuys airport in the summer of 1975.”

Chris Pratt & Guardians of the Galaxy Speculated For Avengers: Infinity War

THE AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR TEASER

Some details on Chris Pratt’s Marvel contract come to light hinting Star-Lord and the Guardians of the Galaxy may be appearing in The Avengers: Infinity War movies, which shouldn’t be a surprise with cosmic bad guy Thanos being the villain.

Pratt recently spoke to GQ where he let it be known his Marvel contract extends through five movies.

“..I’m tied to doing three more, or five more, Guardians of the Galaxy or whatever it is, you know, two more Guardians plus another couple…”

The article goes on to note that they think Pratt actually means he is doing Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and Guardians of the Galaxy 3 in addition to two spin-off projects, which we assume could be The Avengers: Infinity War movies.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is already in the works and is currently being written by James Gunn.

Gunn previously mentioned the third Guardians of the Galaxy movie about a month ago.

“I knew for a long time what the story of the second one was gonna be,” Gunn said, before teasing, “And the third one!”

“Guardians of the Galaxy 2” has a May 5, 2017 release; “The Avengers: Infinity War” Part 1 kicks off May 4, 2018 followed by Part 2 on May 3, 2019.

Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver Are No Longer Mutants In Marvel Comics

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20460:]]

When you read Axel Alonso stating the MCU doesn’t effect the comics, just laugh out loud like us Marvel COSMIC fans have been doing for the past few years.

Case in point: Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch.

We all know Fox Studios owns the rights to the X-Men and mutant characters, but various characters that crossover to each other’s franchises are allowed to be shared, such as the Avengers (or vice-versa).

We saw how in Avengers 2, Marvel Studios wasn’t allowed to refer to Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch as mutants and insinuated their powers were a result of Loki’s staff –  meaning they weren’t mutants.

Now a week following The Avengers 2 opening in the U.S., Marvel Comics has rectonned the histories of Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch to make them no longer mutants.

We see in the preview for Uncanny Avengers #4 below that the High Evolutionary was responsible for giving the twins their powers. It says so right in the panel.

You can bet if there are any more crossover characters that Marvel Comics will do more of the same.

Reportedly, Marvel CEO Ike Perlmutter and Fox are at odds over the rights to the X-Men and Fantastic Four. Marvel Comics has gone so far and even blown up the cast of the Fantastic Four comics in one of their comics (note: not the FF characters, the actors portraying them). The writer of FF attempted to back-peddle and state people misinterpreted the scene – but we laughed out loud at that, too.

The Avengers Infinity War To Be Filmed Entirely With New IMAX 2D Cameras

The Avengers: Infinity War Teaser

On the heels of the colossal domestic opening of Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, Marvel, the Russo brothers and IMAX Corporation today announced that Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War – Parts 1 & 2, the two-part installment to the global blockbuster franchise, will be shot in their entirety using IMAX and ARRI’s next generation revolutionary 2D digital camera – a joint customized digital version of ARRI’s new large format camera, the Alexa 65.

The two-part Avengers saga marks the first time a Hollywood feature film will have been shot completely using IMAX cameras and will featureIMAX’s exclusive aspect ratio, providing moviegoers a uniquely immersive experience.

Prior to filming Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War – Parts 1 & 2, Joe and Anthony Russo, who also directed Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, will use the IMAX/ARRI 2D digital camera for select action sequences on the forthcoming Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War, which will release in IMAX theatres in May of 2016.

Joe and Anthony Russo stated, “The intent with the Infinity War films is to bring ten years of accumulative storytelling to an incredible climax. We felt that the best way to exploit the scale and scope required to close out the final chapter of these three phases, was to be the first films shot entirely on the IMAX/ARRI Digital camera.”

“Over the years, IMAX has had the incredible good fortune to work with some of the world’s finest, most talented filmmakers, who continue to push the envelope both technically and creatively,” said Greg Foster, Senior Executive Vice President, IMAX Corp. and CEO of IMAX Entertainment. “We could not be more excited to deepen our partnership with Joe and Anthony Russo, a pair of filmmakers we believe are next-generation trailblazers. Marvel’s Avengers franchise has become a global phenomenon and to have it pay off in this epic way using the IMAX/ARRI digital camera is the very definition of event movie-going.”

The next-generation 2D digital camera – co-developed by IMAX and ARRI – is meant for use by today’s leading filmmakers working in the IMAX® format. The joint solution is designed as a complementary tool to IMAX’s high-resolution capture technologies – including its 3D digital and 15perf / 65mm film cameras. Moreover, IMAX worked with ARRI to achieve the highest level of digital image capture for playback on IMAX’s xenon and new laser projection systems.

IMAX recently began rolling out its next-generation laser projection system, with more than 71 laser system deals signed globally to date. Such iconic venues to feature the new system include the newly retro-fitted Airbus IMAX Smithsonian Theatre at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, VA., and Seattle’s Boeing IMAX Theatre at Pacific Science Center, both of which re-opened in time for the release of Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron – the first film to be re-mixed for IMAX’s new 12 channel sound system at these IMAX with laser locations.

Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 is slated for release in IMAX theatres on May 4, 2018; Part 2 will open on May 3, 2019.

The IMAX 3D release of Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War – Parts 1 & 2 will be digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience® with proprietary IMAX DMR® (Digital Re-mastering) technology. The crystal-clear images, coupled with IMAX’scustomized theatre geometry and powerful digital audio, create a unique environment that will make audiences feel as if they are in the movie.

Mar-Vell Said To Be In Captain Marvel Movie

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20435:]]

Marvel’s first female movie will be launching in 2018 with Captain Marvel featuring Carol Danvers.

It was recently learned the character almost made it into The Avengers 2 as Joss Whedon wanted to include Carol Danvers in the movie, but Marvel thought it best not to introduce her to audiences too quickly without any build up.

Marvel Cosmic fans are familiar with “Captain Marvel” as the original character is the fan-favorite protector of the universe, the Kree soldier Mar-Vell.

While Stan Lee and Gene Colan are credited with creating Mar-Vell, it was Jim Starlin (creator of Thanos) who put the character on the map especially with the Death of Captain Marvel graphic novel, which saw the character killed off in a story with Mar-Vell battling cancer.

Since Mar-Vell’s death, Carol Danvers is the most recent Marvel superhero to don the name, which admittedly many Marvel Cosmic fans aren’t too happy with, but the good news is it’s now looking likely Mar-Vell will be featured in the MCU Captain Marvel film.

Kevin Feige recently participated at a pre-screening Avengers 2 Q&A at USC where he was asked about the Captain Marvel movie taking so long to get to the big screen. Feige is reported to have stated their Captain Marvel movie is about a woman named Carol who takes over Captain Marvel’s powers. Feige also added that he loves to show woman leading.

As fans of the MCU know, the Kree have been featured in Guardians of the Galaxy, with Lee Pace as Ronan, as well as Agents Of SHIELD, the blue alien. In the comics, Mar-Vell first encounters humans when he spies for the Kree on Earth.

Regarding Mar-Vell and Carol Danvers –  Danvers was caught in an explosion with Mar-Vell that saw some of Mar-Vell’s powers transferred to her, which include enhanced strength and flight.

While Feige only let that tidbut about Mar-Vell be known, it does sound as if the Captain Marvel movie will somewhat follow the comics origin, but probably updated for our time. Nicole Perlman happens to be one of the writers on Captain Marvel movie; Perlman wrote a more serious draft of Guardians of the Galaxy, which is assumed to more resemble the 2008 Abnett and Lanning comic of the same name than Gunn’s re-write that offered a more humerous approach to the characters.

“Captain Marvel” has a November 2, 2018 release; no director or actors have been attached as of yet.

Kevin Feige Extends Marvel Contract; Talks MCU

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20434:]]

Good news for fans of the Marvel cinematic universe as it’s learned Kevin Feige has extended his Marvel contract.

Feige recently attended a Q&A at his alma mater, the University of Southern California, where students watched a prescreening of Avengers 2.

Feige offered his Marvel contract has recently been renewed, but wouldn’t say anything more on the subject. Update: It’s now being said Kevin Feige didn’t say his contract has been renewed, but that some of the actors had their contracts renewed.

Feige is the president and producer of Marvel Studios overseeing the billion dollar plus franchise for Disney as well as is involved with Marvel properties at other studios including Sony’s Spider-Man.

The most recent Marvel movie to have debuted, The Avengers: Age Of Ultron, is already at $700 million worldwide. Up next for Feige is Ant-Man, Captain America: Civil War, Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Inhumans, The Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and Part 2 and the new Sony standalone Spider-Man.

At the Q&A, Feige also let it be known that at any given moment Marvel is thinking 10 to 20 years ahead for their films, but is actively working on the next 5 years, and that what matters most is the movie coming out next. Feige said the current long term focus is the Phase 3 movies.

Feige also said that the characters from the Marvel TV series might make future appearances in future films – or they might not – but that they won’t rule anything out.

Another detail mentioned by Kevin Feige was that a scene meant for The Avengers 2 will show up in Captain America: Civil War, which was a joint decision by both Feige and director Joss Whedon. Feige said the scene was one of his favorites.

Regarding the future use of the same actors, Feige let it be known the characters will continue, but whether or not they will continue with the current actors is unknown as absolutely nothing is set in stone.

Feige answered a question regarding the MCU becoming “darker” (I’m guessing compared to the DC movies) with Feige responding the Marvel movies won’t be going that route, but will always have the tone and humor they have now. Feige said he “hoped people would catch on by now” that there will be “no giant dark turns in the MCU – the humor is the DNA of the movies and there are no plans to change that.”

One last tidbit includes mention Quicksilver will stay dead. Feige said Quicksilver won’t be resurrected (i.e. Coulson Lives). Feige said Quicksilver is dead and wanted to make sure people understood that.

Thanks to redditor JonLuca for posting his class notes.

Avengers 2 Ultron Concept Art

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20433:]]

Check out what could have been as concept art for Ultron from Avengers 2 has hit the net from what looks to be an art book.

I do recall feeling a bit nervous about the look of Ultron when that first clip was released revealing Ultron talking, but I was pretty happy overall when I saw the movie.

I suppose some of these designs are a bit too menacing compared to the final look and what they were going for with Ultron in the film, which I thought was more of an adolescent “cry baby” (not in a bad way) more than an exterminator type of Ultron.

The third and fourth pics on the top row look pretty cool to me.

“Captain America: Civil War” has  a May 6, 2016 release date directed by Anthony and Joe Russo starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo, Emily VanCamp and Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther.

Joss Whedon Explains Why He Left Twitter

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20425:]]

Following the weekend debut of Avengers 2, Josh Whedon closed his Twitter account and said good-bye to his 1.14 million followers.

And then the rumors and speculation began to fly.

Apparently one theory had it Whedon left due to the liberaly feminists who weren’t happy with Black Widow’s depiction in Avengers 2.

However, Whedon tells BuzzFeed that’s a bunch of BS.

“That is horseshit. Believe me, I have been attacked by militant feminists since I got on Twitter. That’s something I’m used to. Every breed of feminism is attacking every other breed, and every subsection of liberalism is always busy attacking another subsection of liberalism, because god forbid they should all band together and actually fight for the cause.”

Whedon goes on to explain why he chose to leave.

“I just thought, Wait a minute, if I’m going to start writing again, I have to go to the quiet place. And this is the least quiet place I’ve ever been in my life. … It’s like taking the bar exam at Coachella. It’s like, Um, I really need to concentrate on this! Guys! Can you all just… I have to… It’s super important for my law!”

Whedon does say he would consider going back to Twitter at some point, but the article states the more Whedon talked about it the less likely it seemed.

“I’m sure I’d consider it at some point. It’s a lot of fun. I had a great time.”
