Emilia Clarke Won’t Be Back For New Terminator Movies

There will be no more Terminator movies for Emilia Clarke.

Clarke, who played Sarah Connor in Terminator: Genisys, stated a definite “no” when asked if she would be returning for any more Terminator movies.

“No,” Clarke told Coming Soon. “Can I say that? It’s okay. No. Uh-uh. But I have some very different roles coming up.”

While Terminator: Genisys didn’t do that greatest domestically, it did well enough internationally to give the movie over $440 million worldwide.

About a month or so ago saw Arnold Schwarzenegger seemingly confirm a Terminator 6.

“I am looking forward to it, absolutely,” Schwarzenegger said.

There were plans at one time for a Terminator Universe; however, with Terminator: Genisys not doing as well as hoped, Paramount seems to have put the brakes on anything new. Terminator sequels were pulled from Paramount’s release schedule.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Confirms Terminator 6

While Paramount recently yanked the next Terminator movie from its release schedule, according to Arnold Schwarzenegger, Terminator 6 is still happening.

“I am looking forward to it, absolutely,” Schwarzenegger told Australia’s Channel 9 when asked about another Terminator film.

Arnold didn’t mention a release date or any other details, and Paramount hasn’t confirmed the next Terminator as well.

There were plans for a Terminator Universe at one point. Possibly with Terminator: Genisys not doing as well as hoped (a measly $90 million in the U.S.), Paramount and Arnold may be going back to the drawing board. There is still a big international audience for Terminator (Genisys scored over $350 million internationally), so hopefully they can get Terminator right.

The Terminator rights are scheduled to revert back to James Cameron in 2019 who hasn’t seemed too interested; however, that could always change, and maybe has.

Parmount Yanks Terminator: Genisys Sequel From Release Schedule

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23932:]]

Paramount has removed the planned sequel to Terminator: Genisys from its release schedule, which originally had a May 19, 2017 release date.

The Baywatch remake starring Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron has now taken Terminator‘s place.

Paramount didn’t offer any explanation as to why Terminator was removed.

A Terminator universe was being planned, but then said to be shelved indefinitely, only for the producers to state Terminator will be back; however, this latest news doesn’t bode well for a Teminator universe as the rights are due to revert back to James Cameron in 2019. Cameron stated he wasn’t interested in Terminator and moved on to Avatar.

Terminator: Genisys did do well internationally at the box office ($350 million), but only did around $90 million in the U.S.

Terminator Will Be Back

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22381:]]

In the words of Arnold Schwarzenegger, yes, Teminator will… be back.

A few days ago saw word hit that the Terminator universe, which included a planned TV series, had been put on hold indefinitely due to the lackluster performance of Terminator: Genisys, which only netted $90 million in the U.S.

However, now it’s learned the producers of the Terminator will continue the franchise.

“Do we intend to have a next step of Terminator? Yes, we do,” Skydance chief creative officer Dana Goldberg said at TheWrap’s 6th Annual Media Leadership Conference. “I wouldn’t say [Terminator is] on hold, so much as re-adjusting.”

Goldberg also continued with confirmation that a Terminator TV series still looks to be a part of those plans.

“At Skydance, when we talk movies, we talk universes, even more than franchises,” Goldberg said. “So the idea of a Terminator TV show fits into that universe. All the steps have to be taken in unison.”

While Terminator didn’t do all that well domestically, what ended up saving the franchise was its international audience as Genisys grossed $350 million in foreign markets.

“Happily, we live in the world where the domestic number had a level of importance 10 or 15 years ago — I’m not saying it’s not important, it is — but we have to play to a worldwide market,” Goldberg said. “In terms of Terminator, the worldwide market paid attention, but we’re not taking the domestic number lightly.”

It’s also learned that the producers of Terminator will connect with the fans to figure out how to better serve up Skynet and the time-travelling cyborgs in future platforms.

“[We will use] data and research to do a worldwide study and really talk to audiences about what they loved, and what maybe didn’t work for them, so that the next we take with the franchise is the right one.”

Terminator “Universe” Said To Be On Hold Indefinitely

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22300:]]

With Marvel’s success comes everyone else trying to hop on the bandwagon.

Of course it makes sense for Warner Bros. to do it with their DC properties, but now Transformers is trying to create a shared universe and, up until now, a Terminator Universe was also being planned (both by Paramount, BTW).

Prior to the release of Terminator Genisys, in addition to two more sequels, it was said a Terminator TV series was also being planned.

However, that isn’t the plan anymore.

Terminator Genisys tanked with its release in the U.S. ($27 million opening weekend), and while it did well overseas, it’s said the film will still loose money.

So who’s to blame?

According to THR, it’s 32-year-old billionaire David Ellison, who financed Terminator: Genisys.

According to the report, Ellison offered his “two cents” a bit too much which resulted in a sub par movie. The report notes that this is the current trend in Hollywood (save for Disney) in that studios get outside financing, which in turn sees the financiers (i.e. “producers”) getting directly involved with the movies — resulting in flops.

Another example given is Thomas Thull of Legendary Entertainment who scored success by parterning on the Nolan Batman movies, but ended up losing money on Pacific Rim, with the sequel in question as the release date was recently shelved.

Ryan Kavanaugh is another example given, with it noted his Relativity Media is in bankruptcy.

The moral of the story seems to be for these billionaires to “put up” and “shut up,” but the report mentions that might be difficult due to their billion dollar egos; so there may very well be a lot more subpar movies on the way.

Arnold Responds to Stone Cold Steve Austin’s WWE 2K Challenge (Video)

It’s the Texas Rattlesnake vs. The Terminator!

The new WWE 2K16 video game features Stone Cold Steve Austin on the cover, and Arnold Schwarzenegger is a playable character as The Terminator.

The two have been jabbing back and forth on their various social network as well as with video on YouTube.

Above you can check out Arnold’s response to Steve Austin, and below is the Terminator 2K16 trailer as well as Stone Cold “welcoming” Arnold to the game with a Stone Cold Stunner.

Info:

2K announced the debut of 2015 WWE Hall of Fame inductee and global action film icon Arnold Schwarzenegger in  WWE® 2K16, the forthcoming release in the flagship WWE franchise. Best known for his acting, bodybuilding and political endeavors, Schwarzenegger, a longtime WWE fan and WWE Hall of Famer, will expand his relationship with WWE through WWE 2K16 with two playable characters – T-800 from The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day films. The playable characters will be available for those who pre-order the game at participating retailers for the PlayStation ® 4 and PlayStation®3 computer entertainment systems, as well as Xbox One and Xbox 360.  WWE 2K16 is scheduled for release on October 27, 2015 in North America and October 30, 2015 internationally.

“I’ve achieved many things in my life, but I’ve always said success means staying hungry and pushing the limits,” said Schwarzenegger. “I was honored to join the WWE Hall of Fame earlier this year, and now I’ll continue my WWE legacy with one of my biggest film roles immortalized in WWE 2K16. Match the Terminator against Stone Cold Steve Austin®, Seth Rollins® or Daniel Bryan®, and there’s only one possible outcome: Hasta la vista, baby!”

From early childhood in his native Austria to today, Schwarzenegger represents the ultimate renaissance man, taking risks and defying odds through career accomplishments in bodybuilding, acting, politics and more. He won his first of four Mr. Universe titles at the age of 20, earned seven Mr. Olympia titles and since 1989 has hosted worldwide fitness expositions through the Arnold Sports Festival. Schwarzenegger is a fixture in numerous blockbuster action films, including Conan the Barbarian, The Terminator, Predator, Total Recall, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, The Expendables franchise and his most recent release, Terminator Genisys, as well as for his roles in pop-culture favorites Kindergarten Cop and Twins. In addition, Schwarzenegger transcended from Hollywood to the state capitol, serving two consecutive terms as the 38th Governor of California from 2003 to 2010.

“Arnold Schwarzenegger is a living legend with universal appeal, a perseverance for greatness and a strong relationship with WWE, including his recent Hall of Fame induction, all of which make him an incredible fit for WWE 2K16,” said Chris Snyder, Vice President of Marketing at 2K. “He’s a force to be reckoned with and defines what it means to raise some hell. Through his WWE 2K16 pre-order inclusion, fans simply can’t beat the opportunity to play as the Terminator in a WWE ring.”

Terminator: Genisys Review

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21611:]]

No More Years

A Film Review of Terminator Genisys

Yes, yes I realize this film has been panned enough by everyone that it has played itself out of virtually every cinema, but I was able to catch a screening at the cheap theater recently, and I was thinking it might have some redeeming value seeing how it still has some connection to the Terminator legacy.  As it turns out, the popular vote regarding this example of Hollywood haberdashery was more or less, right on the money.  As always, I encourage my readers to make up their own minds with as much information as they have available to them and certainly not to simply take my word for it, but not only would I recommend not giving this film one single viewing, I’d recommend not even acknowledging its existence.  Well, that just about wraps up this review in terms of cutting to the chase, but for those of you who’d like to accompany me on a short, cathartic journey of ridicule over this formerly beloved franchise let us venture forth.

It is a pure and simple fact that this franchise has completely lost its way ever since James Cameron relinquished control after Terminator 2: Judgment Day.  To this day, it remains as one of the best sci-fi thrillers that not only bench presses tons of action, effects and stunts, but has some of the best social commentary regarding unbridled scientific research into artificial intelligence and an over-dependency on automation.  Sequels since have tinkered with gimmicks to keep an aging “Ahnold” in the fold, brainstormed with different killer robots and considered focusing on different characters of this inescapable temporal loop.  None of the post T2 sequels had the desperate tone and raw impact of its predecessors.  The same is easily said about Terminator Genisys, a film completely dependent on CG for spectacle, nostalgia for interest and Schwarzenegger for anyone else wondering how a 68 year old man can still sell “killer robot from the future” in a spoof-free presentation.  There is so much gobbledygook going on from a story perspective of this train wreck on celluloid that really getting into it negates this new bullet point analysis I am experimenting with.  So let’s dispense with the pleasantries and get right to the specifics.

Action Style

If the strategy for the approach to the entire action scheme could be summed up into one theme, it would be a battering ram.  Burly men throwing each other all over the place is great for the testosterone, but gets old pretty quickly – no matter how much gunfire and explosions are filling in the empty spaces.

3/6

Action Frame

Since there’s no pressing need to explain what the hell is going on to the audience, this film keeps the pacing up as locations constantly shift along with the prescribed angles to keep the hectic motion accelerating.

4/5

Lead Performance

Arnold needs to stop making these films.  His Austrian strongman antics and charm left him when he ceased being a strongman.  If this is the best Emilia Clarke can bring over from her experience with Game of Thrones, then, yikes!

1/6

Supporting Performance

Jai Courtney is a better robot than a human being playing a robot for a Hollywood film production.  Jason Clarke is an actor with 2 sides: one that is deep and emotional (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) and one that feasts on 2 dimensions (White House Down).  This film received the latter, but J.K. Simmons is a surprise cameo even if he’s used as a complete throwaway.

2/5

Music

Average and respectable.

3/6

Sound F/X

See above.

3/5

 “Moving” = 16/33

Digital F/X

There’s a ton of CG going on throughout.  If it isn’t some kind of time travel effect, it’s some sort of robot battle or crazy chase sequence.  Not quite as plastic as the Star Wars Prequels, but that fake Arnold from the original Terminator sure was.

5/6

Special F/X

A Terminator film has a prerequisite amount of gunfire, explosions and car crashes, but digital effects lifted a heavier burden regarding all these categories.

3/5

Costumes

Everyone is in street clothes all the time, but I guess I can be thankful they didn’t decide to over-sex Sarah Connor with combat jeggings.

3/6

Hair & Makeup

No, no, no.  Arnold looks too old and his hair looks too white and sparse.  I don’t care if the script calls for an acknowledgement of the organic elements of his Cyborg design as being worn over time.  They could have looked a hell of a lot better than that!

2/5

Exteriors

Lots of places to get transported to yields a bevy of contrasting locales.

5/6

Interiors

Adequate, but also a bit simplified.  I feel like if I were planning a sewer ambush for that many years, I’d have a Mad Max film on steroids waiting for them – not what the audience witnessed here.

4/5

“Picture” = 22/33

Hook

So we have to go back in time to go forward in time because this time around things are different thanks to a McGuffin overshadowed by a new evolution in John Connor.  Is that right?

1/4

Conflict

Humans vs. Terminators, Yay!  But this Storm Shadow Terminator is using the same liquid metal gags from 1991?  I don’t know whose tactics are more predictable, humans’ or Skynet’s?

1/4

Resolution

A cool upgrade finally happens, but of course it’s too late to have any impact on the action and none of it really matters because the whole journey seemed to go from nowhere to nowhere.

1/4

Dialogue

Arnold’s robot is far too high on the talky-talky, which sets a self perpetuating trivial tone with how just about every character addresses each other.  I thought this was the end of the world people?!?

2/6

Exposition

Why the hell were we going back in time to go forward in time again?  Why couldn’t we have found a better way and destination with our own time travel device?  Where did Pops come from?  These are not the droids you’re looking for.

2/5

Character Uniqueness

Same Terminator Protector, same Sarah Connor, same Kyle Reese – simply played by less effective and talented actors.  Yes, 1991 Arnold was more talented than 2015 Arnold.

2/6

Character Relatability

For a ragtag group pulling out all the stops to save humanity, they sure struggle to ground their cause in any humanity.  No, I didn’t buy that shoehorned “romance” between Kyle and Sarah nor did I buy into the Terminator’s “paternal” relationship with Sarah.  Linda Hamilton did more with one scene staring into space with voiceover than everyone else did in this whole movie.

1/5

“Story” = 10/34

Overall MPS Rating:  48/100

Ugh!  Terminator Genisys?  More like Terminator Exodus, as in, never return to this franchise again unless James Cameron or someone who actually wants to say something meaningful is in charge of the production.  Of course, what will probably happen next is a stop motion, claymation Terminator voiced by Arnold because no amount of Futurama will be able to CG him walking across the screen, let alone blowing up the bad guys and saving the day.  Do yourselves a favor and just get T2 on Blu Ray and just watch that.

Michael Keaton & JK Simmons Exit King Kong Skull Island

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21193:]]

It’s learned that both Michael Keaton and JK Simmons have exited Legendary’s King Kong Skull Island movie.

Deadline cites scheduling issues as the reason.

Michael Keaton was recently named on a new comic book movie with Imagine Agents, in which he will both star and produce.

J.K. Simmons, current starring in Terminator: Genisys, is a fan hopeful to return to the Spider-Man franchise as J. Jonah Jameson, and interestingly enough, this follows the news of Marvel announcing Tom Holland as Spider-Man. Obviously, the two may not be connected, but at least there is some hope there.

Tom Hiddleston is still on board Skull Island.

Kong: Skull: Island has a March 10, 2017 directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts with a script by John Gatins and Max Borenstein.

Synopsis:

In the spirit of its worldwide blockbuster Godzilla, Legendary Pictures presents a bold new take on the mythos of another iconic beast with Kong: Skull Island, which stars Tom Hiddleston (The Avengers and Thor series).

Directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts (The Kings of Summer) and written by John Gatins(Flight) and Max Borenstein (Godzilla), Kong: Skull Island will fully immerse audiences in the mysterious and dangerous home of the king of the apes as a team of explorers ventures deep inside the treacherous, primordial island. Legendary’s story honors the foundations of existing King Kong lore, but places it in an entirely new, distinct timeline.

Thomas Tull (Godzilla, The Dark Knight, Pacific Rim) and Jon Jashni (Godzilla, Warcraft) will produce and Alex Garcia (Godzilla) will executive produce. The film will be released in 3D and IMAX 3D by Universal Pictures.
