Tom Holland Confirmed For Captain America: Civil War

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21565:]]

John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein have confirmed Tom Holland and Spider-Man will be featured in Captain America: Civil War.

Vulture interviewed the pair who are writing the standalone Spider-Man movie, with the article noting that Goldstein said “they’re going in to Marvel this weekend to look at footage of Tom Holland’s cameo as Peter Parker in Captain America: Civil War.”

“We hear good things,” [Goldstein] said. “We might even get to look at the Spidey suit, which is exciting.”

It’s also stated the leaked Spider-Man character list may not be legit as it’s noted:

Forget any rumored cast lists that have been floating around the web, however: “We’ve discussed certain characters,” said Daley, “but nothing is certain yet, for sure.”

“Captain America: Civil War” has  a May 6, 2016 release date directed by Anthony and Joe Russo starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo, Paul Bettany, Don Cheadle, Emily VanCamp, William Hurt, Martin Freeman and Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther.

Synopsis:

Captain America: Civil War picks up where Avengers: Age of Ultron left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.

Tom Holland Spider-Man Suit Design For Civil War Possibly Leaked

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21546:]]

Update: The information and sketch has been confirmed to be a fake. You can read the guy’s rant about being caught and banned from reddit here.

A few days ago saw a batch of mysterious tweets surface from the “Russo Bros” Twitter account that may be teasing Spider-Man and Captain America: Civil War.

Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn quickly came out stating the account wasn’t legit, but then for some reason deleted the tweet leading to speculation the “Russo Bros” Twitter account may actually be a part of some sort of Spider-Man viral marketing campaign.

One of the Russo Bros tweets happened to feature an up-close pic of red and black material, leading to speculation it’s the new Spider-Man costume for Tom Holland.

Now a user on Reddit is claiming he has seen designs for the Tom Holland Spider-Man suit and offered the following details in addition to drawing up a mock pic.

Worth a mention is that, apparently, there is also some chatter about a reporter from Italy leaking similar designs, with the images reportedly yanked.

Update: A fan created art based on the description, which you can check out below.

Please do not even bother to ask me questions of where I saw this, proof, who I am, where I am and all that stuff. That kind of info will not only make me loose my job, I could end up in jail. So take it as you wish. You kinda just have to trust and ”believe” me when I say that…this is it. This is the suit or…well, a close representation of the suit Tom Holland will cameo in Captain America Civil war. Just wanna say that the suit is more detailed than this obviously and i did this drawing as quickly as i can in an internet cafe. I just downloaded a superhero drawing template from google images, and i just traced on it with a mouse using Sketchbook Pro. I tried my best to recall the design and draw it. I also added a few annotations to explain some of the bits on the suit…I’ll explain it better here…cause you probably can’t read it as i was writing with a mouse. So the suit is red and black. Red at top, black at the bottom. It’s bright, textured and changes colour a bit according to lighting…(kinda like the Man of Steel one…but much better in my opinion…much much better)…anyways The arms are quoted with white rubber-ish webbing. On the chest is a nice black slick spider-logo…i did my best to draw it accurately. I didn’t see the back of the suit. The eyes are…yep very very interesting. They are circle…much bigger than what I have drawn, they look like camera lens. The outside lids are black and inside there is a white glass textured looking cover. They can blink…and rotate to squint. The face is black webbed…more like a design rather than a proper spider web. There was also like 2 metal things on the shoulders with little blue lights. It has a belt buckle with a spider logo. The hands/knuckles are black and fade into red…looks really neat. The feet have a very thin light red trim. Overall the suit is amazing…besides the eyes :/ Its just beautiful and brighter to look at with a nice streamline design. Sorry for spelling and grammar.

New Spider-Man Director Jon Watts Talks Tom Holland & More

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21513:]]

The new writers of Spider-Man previously dropped some details on the direction they are taking the character, and now we hear from new director Jon Watts.

Watts will be helming the standalone Spider-Man movie starring Tom Holland which bows in 2017.

“He can be a real high school student,” Watts said of Holland to EW.com. “That’s why people love Spider-Man. He’s the most grounded, relatable of superheroes. And Tom can really do that. He captures that. And he can do a standing back-flip. He’s perfect.”

Watts also talks about the Spider-Man connection to the rest of the Marvel Universe, which is a first for both Sony and Marvel.

“It’s a big universe, so everyone sort of works with each other to make sure that there’s continuity and that it all fits together,” Watts said. “It’s really exciting actually. We’re just getting started, working on the script and all that, but it’s going to be a great process.”

The untitled Spider-Man movie has a July 28, 2017 release with the script being written by John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein. Holland is expected to first appear in Captain America: Civil War, and Marisa Tomei is rumored to be playing Aunt May.

New Spider-Man Writers Offer Details

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21504:]]

John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein, the writing duo being the Vaction sequel, recently confirmed being on board Spider-Man, and now offer the following on how it went down in addition to a few details.

Below you can check out the text (via Deadline), but worth pointing out is that the new Spider-Man will be:

• An action comedy similar to a John Hughes movie set throughout high school.

• They are approaching it from the standpoint Peter Parker/Spider-Man is a real kid, a high school geek who gets super powers he really doesn’t want, and he doesn’t become a super hero right away.

• Described as a “long journey” in that Spider-Man won’t be saving the whole world right away.

Our agent helped get our foot in the door with Marvel, sending them a script we had written, and letting them know our track record and that we’d love to move from broad comedy to action and action comedy. Also, it helped that Kevin Feige wanted to draw on the spirit of John Hughes for this Spider-Man, and we had just written and directed a sequel to a John Hughes-created franchise with Vacation. We’d pitched ourselves to both write and direct, and so our pitch included a pretty extensive story outline that appealed to them. After Jon Watts got the directing job, they came back and asked if we would be interested in doing the script. The answer was, yes.

Lot of specifics still have to be worked out, and we’ll be sitting with Jon Watts to figure it out, shortly. We definitely were attracted to approaching it from the standpoint of a real kid, a high school geek who, just because he gets super powers he doesn’t really want, doesn’t become a superhero right away.

It’s a long journey. You don’t want him to become someone capable of saving the world by second act. There is a wish fulfillment opportunity here in that few superheroes are given powers like this, and then has to navigate how to use them in a responsible way. Peter Parker is a geek, like us, and one of the very few superheroes who would actually read comic books. Stan Lee has said he wrote it that way, with wish fulfillment in mind, where most superheroes are very handsome adults, with superpowers. This is a real kid we’re talking about.

Spider-Man is speculated to be first appearing next May in Captain America: Civil War; the new standalone Spider-Man movie is due out July 28, 2017 directed by Jon Watts starring Tom Holland.

Vacation Writers Confirm Spider-Man; Are Thrilled

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21474:]]

Last week saw mention that the writers of the Vacation remake will be penning the script for the new Spider-Man.

Now John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein have confirmed the news.

“We can finally acknowledge that,” Daley told npr.org. “This is the first time that we can say that we are writing it.”

“We’ve been saying no comment for the last week,” Goldestein added. “We’re thrilled.”

“He’s a sharp kid and witty and kind of deals with the fact that he’s an outcast and a geek through humor,” Daley offered about Spider-Man. “It is sort of the safety net for geeks like us, so I think we can totally relate to where he’s coming from. As well as the superpowers, which we also have.”

The Spider-Man reboot is set for a July 28, 2017 release starring Tom Holland, with Kevin Feige on as producer along with Sony’s Amy Pascal. It’s speculated Spider-Man will also appear in Captain America: Civil War out next May. Marisa Tomei is in talks for Aunt May.

New Spider-Man Costume Possibly Teased By Russo Bros.

Update: Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn confirms the Twitter account is fake.

Update #2: James Gunn deleted the above tweet fueling further speculation the Twitter account is in some way legit.

Is this a possible peek at the new Tom Holland Spider-Man costume for Captain America: Civil War?

Images surfaced on the “Russo Bros” Twitter account (unknown if official) possibly teasing a red and black Spider-Man costume.

In addition, it appears as if the “Sokovia Accord” is the movie version of the Civil War superhero registration act, as Sokovia was the city destroyed in Avengers 2.

Some of the other images appear to tease Peter Parker’s high school, the Ten Rings and possibly Spider-Man’s camera.

Joe Quesda, Marvel’s CCO, recently stated the new Spider-Man costume is awesome and that it will blow people away.

“Captain America: Civil War” has  a May 6, 2016 release date directed by Anthony and Joe Russo starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo, Paul Bettany, Don Cheadle, Emily VanCamp, William Hurt, Martin Freeman and Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther.

John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein, both of whom were actually in talks to direct Spider-Man before Jon Watts got the gig, will be writing the Spider-Man reboot for Marvel and Sony.

The story will see the new Peter Parker set in high school, but is said not to be an origin story.

Marisa Tomei is close to signing on as Aunt May and will appear first in Captain America: Civil War along with Tom Holland, the new Spider-Man.

Spider-Man Tom Holland & Punisher Jon Bernthal Selfie

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21396:]]

While it doesn’t exactly confirm Spider-Man appearing in Daredevil – or vice versa – it’s still cool to see Tom Holland and Jon Bernthal hanging out together.

The new Spidey and Punisher are actually starring together in the upcoming movie Pilgrimage, which takes place in 13th century Ireland and sees a group of monks escorting a sacred relic across an Irish landscape fraught with peril.

Holland plays “The Novice,” with Bernthal as “The Mute.”

More than likely the two talked Marvel shop as Tom Holland will be playing Spider-Man on the big screen in Captain America: Civil War, and Jon Bernthal will be battling Daredevil in the Netflix series for Season 2.

“Had an amazing time hanging with this guy,” Holland posted on Instagram. “Much love brother.”

Amazing Spider-Man 3 May Have Featured Zombie Captain Stacy?

With Marvel and Sony rebooting Spider-Man, Denis Leary reveals potential details for what could have been for Amazing Spider-Man 3, which sounds like something more out of The Walking Dead.

Leary tells IGN that Spider-Man would have created some kind of formula that brought people back from the dead.

Possibly in 3, there was this idea at one point that Spider-Man would be able to take this formula and regenerate the people in his life that had died. So, there was this discussion that Captain Stacy would come back even bigger in episode 3.

While it could be zombies, possibly the story may have connected to Morbius the Living Vampire in some way?

Marc Webb also recently commented on the Spider-Man reboot offering he would have liked to use The Gentleman and Venom.

Tom Holland will be the new Marvel Spider-Man speculated to first appear in Captain America: Civil War next May, and the Spider-Man reboot follows in 2017 directed by Jon Watts.

Watch: Joe Quesada Says The Spider-Man Costume Is Awesome

Check out video above of Marvel chief creative officer Joe Quesada talking about his job at Marvel as well as Spider-Man.

Quesada says he has seen the new Spider-Man costume, which will be worn by Tom Holland.

“It’s awesome,” Quesada said. “It looks awesome.

“I’ve seen a lot of design work that’s been done on the costume. I think there are elements of it that are really going to blow people away where they are going to go ‘that’s Marvel doing Spider-Man,” Quesada said.

Quesada wouldn’t confirm if the costume is a new or traditional approach to the Spider-Man look or if Holland will use web-shooters.

“You’re trying to trick me. It’s not going to work. I’ve played this game before,” Quesada laughed. “Things will be revealed as they are meant to be revealed.”

Joe Quesada continued with mention of how exciting it is to have Spider-Man back in the MCU.

“It’s Spider-Man. What’s not exciting about that? I can’t imagine there’s a person on the planet Earth that can’t relate to some aspect of Spider-Man or Peter Parker, and he is for all intents and purposes, he is Marvel’s Mickey Mouse. He is the icon of so much of what we have was built upon, so to create that movie along with our Sony partners it’s phenomenally exciting. I know Kevin Feige and his team have some great ideas. Some wonderful theories that we’ve all chimed in on.”

The new Spider-Man movie has a July 28, 2017 release and is expected to first appear in “Captain America: Civil War” next May.

Marisa Tomei Cast As Aunt May For Spider-Man & Captain America: Civil War

With Tom Holland cast as Spider-Man and Jon Watts set to direct the reboot, Marvel has begun to fill out the supporting cast.

Sally Field previously played Aunt May in the Andrew Garfield Amazing Spider-Man movies, and Rosemary Harris was the character in the Sam Raimi films.

THR reports that in addition to Marisa Tomei playing Aunt May in the new Spider-Man movie, Tomei may actually be making her first appearance in Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War.

The new Tom Holland Spider-Man will be a younger Peter Parker who is said to be a freshman in high school, so the new Aunt May has been made to be an updated contemporary version of the character.

The new Spider-Man movie is slated for July 28, 2017 release.

Michael Keaton & JK Simmons Exit King Kong Skull Island

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21193:]]

It’s learned that both Michael Keaton and JK Simmons have exited Legendary’s King Kong Skull Island movie.

Deadline cites scheduling issues as the reason.

Michael Keaton was recently named on a new comic book movie with Imagine Agents, in which he will both star and produce.

J.K. Simmons, current starring in Terminator: Genisys, is a fan hopeful to return to the Spider-Man franchise as J. Jonah Jameson, and interestingly enough, this follows the news of Marvel announcing Tom Holland as Spider-Man. Obviously, the two may not be connected, but at least there is some hope there.

Tom Hiddleston is still on board Skull Island.

Kong: Skull: Island has a March 10, 2017 directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts with a script by John Gatins and Max Borenstein.

Synopsis:

In the spirit of its worldwide blockbuster Godzilla, Legendary Pictures presents a bold new take on the mythos of another iconic beast with Kong: Skull Island, which stars Tom Hiddleston (The Avengers and Thor series).

Directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts (The Kings of Summer) and written by John Gatins(Flight) and Max Borenstein (Godzilla), Kong: Skull Island will fully immerse audiences in the mysterious and dangerous home of the king of the apes as a team of explorers ventures deep inside the treacherous, primordial island. Legendary’s story honors the foundations of existing King Kong lore, but places it in an entirely new, distinct timeline.

Thomas Tull (Godzilla, The Dark Knight, Pacific Rim) and Jon Jashni (Godzilla, Warcraft) will produce and Alex Garcia (Godzilla) will executive produce. The film will be released in 3D and IMAX 3D by Universal Pictures.

Spider-Man To Start Filming June 2016

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21191:]]

While doing press for Ant-Man, Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige offered updates on the filming schedules for Captain America: Civil War, Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Thor 3 and the new Spider-Man.

Regarding Captain America: Civil War, Feige said they just crossed the halfway mark of filming last week, and that it’s around day 42 or 43 of 80.

Feige offered Doctor Strange will start to film in London this November.

James Gunn recently confirmed the title for the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel to be Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which Feige stated will start filming in London around February and/or March of 2016.

The third Thor movie, Thor: Ragnarok, will film at the same time as the new Tom Holland Spider-Man movie, around June of 2016.

Feige also shot down the rumor that Thor 3 will be directed by Kenneth Branagh and stated the announcement for the director should be some time soon.

While there was a previous goofy rumor that Marvel was “scared” of WB at this Summer’s Comic-Con, as many have anticipated, Feige said it’s possible Marvel will be at Disney’s D23 Expo in August.

“Captain America: Civil War” hits May 6, 2016; “Doctor Strange” has a November 4, 2016 release; “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” blasts off May 5, 2017; Spider-Man swings in July 28, 2017, and “Thor: Ragnarok” hammers home November 3, 2017.

Stan Lee Approves Of Spider-Man Tom Holland

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21182:]]

Stan Lee approves of Marvel’s choice for the new Spider-Man, Tom Holland.

19-year-old English actor Tom Holland was recently named to be Marvel and Sony’s new choice for Spider-Man — first set to appear in Captain America: Civil War and then the new standalone Spidey movie.

“He’s good to me! I can’t see anything wrong with him,” Stan Lee told EW.com while attending the LA premiere of Ant-Man.

“I don’t know him intimately – in fact, I’ve never seen him [onscreen],” Lee continued “But if [Marvel] picked him, I’m sure he’s good!”

Stan Lee also recently commented on his Ant-Man cameo and Ant-Man in the comics.

Jon Watts is directing the new Spider-Man film, which is due out July 28, 2017.

“With Tom, we’ve found the perfect actor to bring Spider-Man’s story into the Marvel Cinematic Universe,” Sony’s Amy Pascal previously stated.

Details Behind Tom Holland’s Spider-Man Casting

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21144:]]

Earlier today saw Marvel and Sony announce 19-year-old English actor Tom Holland as the new Spider-Man with Jon Watts set to direct the film.

Now Variety reports on the inside decision as to how both Watts and Holland were chosen.

TOM HOLLAND

According to the report, following “underwhelming” meetings with unknown actors, the search for a new Spider-Man was widened to include actors with a “somewhat” proven track record, with Asa Butterfield, Charlie Rowe, Matthew Lintz and Tom Holland becoming the frontrunners. The list was eventually narrowed to two favorites with Lowe and Holland.

Tom Holland became the choice by Marvel and Sony as it’s said Holland was an already established name who proved he could hold his own alongside bigger-named stars such as when Holland starred in The Impossible with Ewan McGreggor and Naomi Watts.

It’s further said Tom Holland is at an age in which he is still young enough that he will be able to play a teenage Spider-Man for years to come (Marvel’s Kevin Feige stated the new Peter Parker is in high school), and that the decision for an adult teenage actor was made in part due to the studios not wanting to deal with child labor laws that restrict the lengths of film shoots.

JON WATTS

Regarding Jon Watts, the report mentions Ted Melfi (St. Vincent), Jonathan Levine (Warm Bodies), John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein (Vacation) were also potential contenders to direct Spider-Man as their experience on the comedic side as well as use of younger actors made them stand out choices.

It’s said, apparently Levine and Melfi became frustrated with the process, and Marvel/Sony was worried it would carry over to the Spider-Man movie production, which ended up opening the job up for Watts. In addition, Watts’ work on Cop Car is said to have earned him bonus points as the film received rave reviews at Sundance.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR

While the Marvel and Sony official announcement made no mention of Tom Holland appearing as Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War, the report states Holland is expected to make an appearance “in order to properly introduce him into the Marvel film universe.”

Holland’s appearance in Captain America: Civil War is said to only be a small cameo as it’s mentioned Holland will only be needed for a week of filming.

Update: THR is reporting that Tom Holland had a screen test with Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans, and that Tony Stark/Iron Man will share scenes with Peter Parker/Spider-Man. It’s said Marvel was looking for chemistry between the actors and Holland.

Tom Holland recently finished filming “In The Heart Of The Sea” (out December 11th), which stars The Avengers’ Thor actor Chris Hemsworth (pictured above via USA Today).

“Captain America: Civil War” has a May 6, 2016 release; the new “Spider-Man” movie is due out July 28, 2017.

New Spider-Man & Director Announced

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21130:]]

Marvel and Sony have announced the new Spider-Man and director with Tom Holland as the new Web Crawler and Jon Watts as the director on the new Spider-Man movie.

Check out the announcement:

Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios are proud to announce that after a full worldwide casting search, Tom Holland will play Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the next Spider-Man film, in theaters in IMAX and 3D on July 28, 2017.  The film will be directed by Jon Watts, director of “Cop Car,” the upcoming thriller that made its debut earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival.

Marvel and Sony Pictures, and producers Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal conducted an extensive search for both the actor and the director.  The studios and producers were impressed by Holland’s performances in “The Impossible,” “Wolf Hall,” and the upcoming “In the Heart of the Sea,” and by a series of complex screen tests.  Following Marvel’s tradition of working with the brightest next wave of directors, Watts also went through multiple meetings with Feige, Pascal, and the studio, before winning the job.

Commenting on the announcement, Tom Rothman, Sony Pictures Motion Pictures Group Chairman, said, “It’s a big day here at Sony. Kevin, Amy and their teams have done an incredible job.  The Marvel process is very thorough, and that’s why their results are so outstanding.  I’m confident Spider-Man will be no exception.  I’ve worked with a number of up-and-coming directors who have gone on to be superstars and believe that Jon is just such an outstanding talent.  For Spidey himself, we saw many terrific young actors, but Tom’s screen tests were special.   All in all, we are off to a roaring start.”

Feige commented, “As with James Gunn, Joss Whedon, and the Russo brothers, we love finding new and exciting voices to bring these characters to life.  We spent a lot of time with Jon and find his take and work inspiring.”

Pascal added, “Sony, Marvel, Kevin and I all knew that for Peter Parker, we had to find a vibrant, talented young actor capable of embodying one of the most well-known characters in the world.  With Tom, we’ve found the perfect actor to bring Spider-Man’s story into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”

Sony Pictures will finance and release worldwide the next installment of the $4 billion Spider-Man franchise on July 28, 2017, in a film co-produced by Kevin Feige and his expert team at Marvel and Amy Pascal, who oversaw the franchise launch for the studio 13 years ago. Stan Lee Stands Up For White Spider-Man; Says Create New Characters

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21125:]]

Leave it to Stan Lee to tell it like it is.

Marvel Comics as of late has been changing their characters to mold them into politically correct versions.

The latest is that the Black Puerto Rican version of Spider-Man, Miles Morales, will be the headliner of the new Spider-Man series launching in the Fall.

The writer on the new Spidey series, Brian Michael Bendis, even went so far as to call white children racists by stating they wouldn’t let their friends of “color” pretend to be the white characters Batman or Superman (of course Bendis didn’t mention any white Marvel characters like Iron Man).

Now Stan Lee sets the record straight and says they should leave the characters alone and just create new ones.

“I wouldn’t mind, if Peter Parker had originally been black, a Latino, an Indian or anything else, that he stay that way,” Lee told Newsarama. “But we originally made him white. I don’t see any reason to change that.”

While Bendis apparently believes kids aren’t allowed to pretend to be a hero of a different “color,” Stan Lee thinks that one of Spider-Man’s stengths is that his costume enables anyone to potentially identify with the Web Crawler.

“What I like about the costume is that anybody reading Spider-Man in any part of the world can imagine that they themselves are under the costume,” Lee said. “And that’s a good thing.”

Lee continues that it’s not about being anti-gay or anti-black, and even mentions what may fans have stated, which is they wouldn’t want to see the black characters changed as well.

“It has nothing to do with being anti-gay, or anti-black, or anti-Latino, or anything like that,” Lee said. “Latino characters should stay Latino. The Black Panther should certainly not be Swiss. I just see no reason to change that which has already been established when it’s so easy to add new characters. I say create new characters the way you want to. Hell, I’ll do it myself.”

Miles Morales To Headline Bendys Spider-Man

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21082:]]

Disney continues their PC take over of Marvel Comics with Miles Morales being the headliner in new Bendys Spider-Man comic that launches in the Fall following Secret Wars.

Apparently, Bendys thinks fans of “color” are not allowed to be Batman or Superman while playing with their friends (seriously, this is what he says), so now they can pretend to be Miles Morales, the Black Puerto Rican Spider-Man from the Ultimate Universe that replaced a murdered Peter Parker, and now finds himself front-and-center following Secret Wars:

“Many kids of color who when they were playing superheroes with their friends, their friends wouldn’t let them be Batman or Superman because they don’t look like those heroes but they could be Spider-Man because anyone could be under that mask. But now it’s true. It’s meant a great deal to a great many people.”

The NY Daily News states that Peter Parker looks to be involved in the new series somehow as it’s stated Parker is a mentor to Morales. Bendys also notes the Morales Spider-Man is everybody’s Spider-Man.

“Our message has to be it’s not Spider-Man with an asterisk, it’s the real Spider-Man for kids of color, for adults of color and everybody else,” says Bendis of the series which is drawn by artist Sarah Pichelli.

Leaked: Spider-Man Can Be Black In The Movies But Not Peter Parker

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21079:]]

The other day saw a second batch of Sony documents leaked online as a result of the earlier North Korean hack.

Now what looks to be a licensing agreement between Marvel and Sony listing mandatory movie characteristics for both Spider-Man and Peter Parker has hit the net.

The document does reveal that “Spider-Man” can be black (or whatever ethnicity), but that “Peter Parker” must be white.

The document also allows for a gay Spider-Man as long as Marvel first portrayed the alter ego of the character that way first.

It probably should be noted the document/agreement may not be valid anymore as it was created in 2011, and Sony and Marvel may have come to a new deal with their joint venture.

What the licensing agreement essentially does is limit Sony’s creative control over the character, which makes sense as Spider-Man is owned by Marvel.

Here is the list of the mandatory character traits:

Mandatory Spider-Man Character Traits: Spider-Man (whether Peter Parker or an alternate Spider-Man character) must always strictly conform to the following “Mandatory Character Traits”:

•Male
• Does not torture
• Does not kill unless in defense of self or others
• Does not use foul language beyond PG-13
• Does not smoke tobacco
• Does not sell/distribute illegal drugs
• Does Not abuse alcohol
• Does not have sex before the age of 16, does not have sex with anyone below the age of 16
• Not a homosexual (unless Marvel has portrayed that alter ego as a homosexual)

Peter Parker traits. Depiction of Peter Parker or his Spider-Man alter ego must conform to the following character traits:

• His full name is Peter Benjamin Parker.
• He is Caucasian and heterosexual.
• His parents become absent from his life during his childhood.
• From the time his parents become absent he is raised by Aunt May and Uncle Ben in New York City.
• He gains his powers while attending either middle school or college.
• He gains his powers from being bitten by a spider.
• He designs his first red and blue costume.
• The black costume is a symbiotic and not designed by him.
• He is raised in a middle class household in Queens, New York.
• He attends or attended high school in Queens, New York, and he attends or attended college in New York City, New York.

New Spider-Man To Possibly Be Named Next Week

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20988:]]Pictured Left: Tom Holland

The latest regarding the new Spider-Man is more speculation and rumor, with it now said the new Spider-Man may possibly be named next week.

Deadline calls attention to the recent rumor that Spider-Man is down to two to four actors, with Asa Butterfield apparently out of contention.

While the report doesn’t confirm or deny the rumor, they do state the decision for the new Spider-Man may come next week.

It’s also stated the new Spider-Man used in Captain America: Civil War will be similar to the Marvel Comics storyline in that Spider-Man may be a swing vote when it comes down to super hero registration (or whatever “super hero registration” movie equivalent Marvel goes with).

The wallcrawler plays a key role in the 2006-2007 Marvel Comics storyline on which the film is based. That story put Iron Man and Captain America on opposite sides of the law, with Tony Stark the public face of a government effort to force superheroes to register with the government, enacted in the wake of outrage over a devastating battle between heroes and villains that left behind numerous civilian casualties. Citing concerns about liberty and freedom, Captain America goes underground and becomes the leader of those heroes who refuse to register. Spider-Man serves as what amounts to the swing vote on the question. At first publicly unmasking himself, as the government becomes more heavily focused on rounding up fugitive heroes, Spidey switches sides. Captain America: Civil War will hit similar beats, and supposedly, Spider-Man is intended to play a role similar to that of the comics, which means Marvel needs him, and quick.

Deadline also repeats the rumor that Marvel and Sony are at a casting standstill over the choice of the Spider-Man actor, though their own report instead mentions Marvel and Sony are “very carefully deliberating over who will play Peter Parker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the foreseeable future.”

Regarding Asa Butterfield, Deadline says he is “now apparently out of contention.”

The four actors said to be up to play the new Spider-Man are: Tom Holland, Charlie Rowe, Matthew Lintz and Charlie Plummer.

It’s noted Tom Holland is currently in Atlanta (where Captain America: Civil War is filming) for a golf outing.

Asa Butterfield Said To Be No Longer In Contention For Spider-Man

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20967:]]

It’s now being reported that Asa Butterfield is no longer being considered for Spider-Man.

Apparently the info is coming from a reporter from The Wrap that was the same one to state he was 95% certain the new Spider-Man would be non-white.

However, every actor said to be up for the role by the Hollywood trade sites (and The Wrap) is white.

It’s said the list of actors to play the new Spider-Man is now down to Tom Holland, Charlie Plummer and Matthew Lintz — with Marvel wanting Plummer while Sony favors Holland, leading to a casting standstill.

It’s also said that Asa Butterfield went on Reddit and made comments replying to fans about his potential casting, which may be a reason why Marvel let him go.

If I had to guess, I would say that Marvel already has their Spider-Man, and that they have had the actor for a while (à la Benedict Cumberbatch or Chris Pratt).

The new Peter Parker/Spider-Man is thought to be first appearing in Captain America: Civil War and is said to be wanted on set in July.

Really, nothing has been confirmed by Marvel other than the new Spider-Man will be Peter Parker in high school.

Walking Dead’s Chandler Riggs Not Playing New Spider-Man

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20965:]]

With Marvel searching for a new Spider-Man, it’s been said they tested a bunch of young actors for the part.

One of those actors looks to be Chandler Riggs, known for playing Carl on The Walking Dead.

Riggs tweeted out the following a couple of hours ago stating good luck to whoever lands the Spider-Man role, which seems to insinuate he tried out for the new Spider-Man, but didn’t get the part.

Riggs also uses the Captain America: Civil War hashtag, which may mean he has insider knowledge that while trying out for the Spider-Man role, he was told it is for Captain America 3.

According to the Hollywood trade sites, Marvel is close to choosing their new Spider-Man with Tom Holland, Asa Butterfield, Judah Lewis, Matthew Lintz, Charlie Rowe and Charlie Plummer said to be the top contenders.

A new Spider-Man solo movie is also being planned for 2017.

Jason Statham Rumored For Bullseye In Daredevil Season 2

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20881:]]

Update: Marvel TV is stating there is no truth to the rumor of Jason Statham.

Update #2: Jason Statham has no ambition for comic book movies and says Marvel isn’t authentic.

It’s rumored that Jason Statham is being eyed by Marvel to play Bullseye in Season 2 of the Daredevil Netflix series.

According to Latino Review, Statham has even took a meeting with Marvel, and at one time, Statham was in talks for a DD movie reboot over at Fox.

The same report also mentions potential villains for Daredevil Season 2 with Mr. Fear, Elektra (seemingly already confirmed) – and get this – Spider-Man villain Mysterio.

It would be rather interesting to have Statham featured on the Netflix series as he is a pretty big-named action star. The quesion is: Is Statham too big?

Daredevil Season 2 is currently in devlopment and will be released in 2016.

Marvel Rebooting In Fall With New #1’s & Characters

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20864:]]

Following on the heels of DC’s own reboot attempt with the New 52 back in the Fall of 2011, now it’s official that Marvel is rebooting as well with the “All-New, All-Different Marvel” approach.

It’s reported Marvel will be rebooting with 55-60 new #1 issues this Fall, which will include a new Wolverine, new Spider-Man and a new Hulk, with titles written by Brian Michael Bendis, Jason Aaron, Mark Waid, Dan Slott, Charles Soule, G. Willow Wilson, Jeff Lemire, CM Punk and Nicole Perlman.

The new event follows Secret Wars and takes place eight months later.

Marvel EIC Axel Alonso and David Gabriel, SVP of Sales and Marketing, offered the following to various news outlets:

Update: Marvel has released a second teaser image.

Axel Alonso:

“This is the Marvel Universe. This fall, we will be inviting readers into a universe comprised of bold new landscapes populated with characters and teams both familiar and brand-new.”

“The all-new Hulk … this character is certain to cause debate. The same people who went crazy with female Thor will have a field day with this one. Will there be enough room for him and Peter Parker? Read and find out. Wolverine will return to the Marvel Universe (again, this will be something big). Who is Wolverine? You’ll have to read and find out.”

“She [Kamala Khan] is Peter Parker for the 21st century. Peter Parker can be a 16-year-old Pakistani girl from Jersey City. If her story is universal, then people are going to come and read it. If it feels true, if it resonates, people are going to come.”

“I’ll go ahead and tell you the Marvel Universe is about to see the arrival of an All-New Hulk—not a Hulk that you’ve seen before. And this development is deeply rooted in story. I am personally excited about it and its ramifications and it’s a fascinating story that I think Bruce Banner fans will definitely want to read. You’ll also see the arrival of a new Spider-Man in the Marvel Universe and you’ll also see—spoiler alert—a Wolverine emerge on the scene. I’m not going to say who, but a Wolverine that is certain to provoke reactions.”

“We’ve put the onus on the creators to come up with big changes in the lives of our characters, whether it’s Spider-Man or Ms. Marvel or Daredevil or the Hulk. You’re going to be looking at, in certain cases, new characters inhabiting those roles, and new characters dealing with profound changes in the relationships with others around them and where they live.

“We’ve challenged everybody to come up with the right ‘Oh (expletive)’ reveal for their character to shake it up and make it interesting.”

“…Incredible Hulk like no fan has ever seen before. That’s certain to be a topic of conversation. All the same people who yelled about female Thor are going to do the same thing about this Hulk.”

“…they’re going to read the story and go, ‘Oh God, they’re on to something!’ “

“There’s no red sky, there’s no icecaps. But there will be new places on the map, there will be new characters that were just too cool to not bring back from ‘Secret Wars.’ There are new teams that are necessary to deal with new threats.”

“I think that the comics industry — certainly, we are — slowly working into a season model that’s not too unlike what we see in our favorite cable TV shows: a seasonal model that offers accessible entry points for new readers and is respectful of long-term fans. We did Marvel NOW! and All-New Marvel NOW!, which were both two very successful campaigns. And this is the latest campaign.”

David Gabriel:

“This is going to be an absolute game changer for Marvel. Similar to the most successful comics industry program of this century—Marvel NOW!, All-New All-Different Marvel is going to be presenting fans new #1’s for every title coming out during this event. This is a brand new beginning that honors our past 76 years, yet takes a bold step with daring, and accessible, entry points.”

“The real beauty of that is if you’re one of these fans who’ve been around for many years, it’s a great, exciting mystery. And if you’re these new fans who maybe only jumped in this year when you saw the Avengers movie, you’ll be able to pick up any of these comics and you will not need to know 50 years of backstory of anybody.”

Shortlist To Direct New Spider-Man Becomes Known

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20826:]]TOM HOLLAND

A couple of days ago saw it mentioned that Marvel and Sony may name the new Spider-Man within a week, and now a reported shortlist of directors has surfaced.

Deadline offers an update corroborating that Asa Butterfield and Tom Holland are the frontrunners to play the new Spider-Man, though Matt Lintz and Charlie Rowe are still said to be in the mix.

Regarding possiblities to direct the 2017 standalone Spider-Man film, it’s said Marvel and Sony have Ted Melfi (St. Vincent) and Jonathan Levine (Warm Bodies) as their favorites, with John Francis Daley, Jonathan M. Goldstein and Jon Watts said to be in contention.

It’s reported the final decision will be made by Marvel’s Kevin Feige and Sony’s Amy Pascal, with Sony Pictures chief Tom Rothman offering input as well.

It’s also said Marvel and Sony have been meeting with writers for the new Spider-Man movie.

There has been no mention as of late of Drew Goddard who was said to be directing the Sinister Six movie for Sony and was also said to be a favorite of Amy Pascal’s. It seems Goddard’s name has been absent with Marvel’s now being involved. There may be some heat between Goddard and Marvel as Goddard left the Daredevil series, and Sony leaked e-mails revealed contention between Goodard and Marvel as well.
