Confirming speculation from a while ago, now Dwayne Johnson has announced Karen Gillan is joining the cast of Jumanji.

As Johnson notes, the new Jumanji movie is a sequel to the 1995 film that starred Robin Williams.
Karen Gillan first teased involvement in the Jumanji movie back in 2013 noting “things are really happening.”
Gillan also stars in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy 2.

I felt like in order to craft something cool we should begin where it all started. Award winning writer Chris Van Allsburg’s source material of JUMANJI. Chris also wrote THE POLAR EXPRESS (later adapted by Robert Zemeckis and Tom Hanks) and has a very special & magical way of storytelling.
I’m feelin’ good and confident stepping into these shoes as a producer as well as actor to bring you something great that you and your entire fam can enjoy.
An important thing that I want to be honest and bring up is Robin Williams. The love and respect I have for this man is boundless. You have my word, we will honor his name and the character of “Alan Parrish” will stand alone and be forever immortalized in the world of JUMANJI in an earnest and cool way. I have an idea of what to do and I think his family will be proud. I also think Robin is somewhere lookin’ down and laughing, remembering the first time we met backstage and I (for the first time ever) was a star struck bumbling idiot that couldn’t even get my words out. Idiot. He literally calmed me down w/ that smile and laugh. But that’s for another fun story down the road.
We got a great team assembled already over at our home base of SONY and now we build from here.
Here’s another fun part… in the original movie there were three big roles. In our new story there’s now FIVE. Been so damn cool to see all my actor buddies push their projects aside so hopefully they can come play in our world. Should have cool casting announcements this week. Will keep you posted.

Dwayne Johnson has announced he will be starring in the Jumanji remake.
The Rock took to Instagram to announce the news with word Jumanji will begin fiming in the Fall.
Jumanji is being directed by Jake Kasdan, with Matt Tolmach on board as producer.
The original Jumanji came out in 1995 starring Robin Williams.
Dwayne Johnson is currently filming Baywatch and has the Rampage movie coming up.
The Jumanji remake has a July 28, 2017 release also starring Kevin Hart.

Sony has changed the release date of the upcoming new standalone Spider-Man reboot set to star Tom Holland.
The untitled Spider-Man movie will now be released three weeks earlier on July 7, 2017, instead of the original July 28th release.
The July 7th release date was previously held by Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell Not Tales, which also saw its release date shift along with Star Wars: Episode VIII.
Sony has also announced the Jumanji reboot has taken the July 28, 2017 release date, which is seven months after the original December 25, 2016 release.

Sony Pictures Entertainment today unveiled release dates for 16 films for the studio’s 2016 and 2017 slates.
The additions compose a diverse, globally oriented mix of films, including new films with franchise potential (The Dark Tower, Uncharted, Patient Zero), established franchises (Bad Boys 3 and 4, Resident Evil, Underworld), adaptations of strong and beloved source material (The Magnificent Seven, Jumanji, Barbie), and daring original films (Passengers, Money Monster, The Shallows, Baby Driver, The Lamb).
These films join numerous projects already on the studio’s slate, including Ghostbusters (which moves up one week to 7/15/16), the next Spider-Man film (7/28/17), The Equalizer 2 (9/29/17), Dan Brown’s Inferno (10/14/16), Ang Lee’s Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk (11/11/16), and the animated Spider-Man film masterminded by Phil Lord & Christopher Miller (7/20/18.)
