Jumani: Welcome to the Jungle is currently the #1 movie at the box office once again, and it has brought in over a whopping $857 million for Sony.
Now, in what should be no surprise, it’s learned that Sony and Dwayne Johnson are developing Jumanji 3.
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle director Jake Kasdan is expected back as well, and Dwayne Johnson returns as producer along with Matt Tolmach, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia.
To put it in perspective how big of a hit Jumaji: Welcome to the Jungle really is, it’s Sony’s best performing movie ever outside of their Spider-Man franchise, and Jumanji even took down Disney’s Star Wars juggernaut, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, as Jumanji’s box office regularly surpassed SW:TLJ daily and on weekends.
Regarding the plot for Jumanji 3, while it isn’t presently known, my two sons and I were discussing ideas for a sequel when we were leaving the theater. One came up with the idea that since Jumanji 2 used an older gaming system, maybe the next movie would use a present day console (Sony does own Playstation). Another idea was that possibly the next Jumanji would use virtual reality to bring the kids into the world.
Jumani: Welcome to the Jungle was a great flick, so it’s good to hear all the cast is coming back.
