Robert Downey Jr. Talks The Vision In Avengers 2

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19240:]]

Paul Bettany is set to suit up as Vision in The Avengers: Age Of Ultron, and for the first time will be seen on camera fighting alongside Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man.

Robert Downey Jr. recently spoke with Empire Online and offered the following about the Vision in Avengers 2:

[Jon] Favreau was visiting the set and went, ‘JARVIS, what did they fuckin’ do to you?’ I would maybe see Bettany on the street or at a premiere party, maybe. And the suit? Everybody has to pay their pound of flesh. I remember on Iron Man 2 when Cheadle came out in the Mark II, it’s the least comfortable suit, by their own admission, designed for any movie and he came out and stopped the party. I looked at him and it was right before lunch and he’d been in it for three hours. I thought, ‘Poor Don’, but you gotta do it. And for Bettany, they did a number on him with this absolutely awesome Ultron look, and it also reminded me of the times when I’ve been in special effects make-up. The very first thing he had to do was perch on the end of a precipitous ledge and stand up at the right time with the wind blowing and look right down the barrel, and 20 other things were happening, and it was like, ‘Yep, welcome’. But when – and I won’t give much of anything away – Vision gets to express and enter and find his place in earnest respect on the playing field, it was like an exceptionally well-executed, poetic, badass, “Aha!” moment for all of us. Joss was very particular about that in a different way than he was with Jimmy. I think people are going to get a kick out of the creative decisions about how Vision fits in.

Paul Bettany Said To Be The Vision In The Avengers 2; Jeremy Renner Spotted

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:13616:]]

It’s being reported that Paul Bettany will play the Vision in The Avengers 2.

The Daily Mail reports that Paul Bettany was spotted at the Shepperton Studios just outside London this week where it’s also mentioned Jeremy Renner was seen, with the two actors there to have a meeting with Joss Whedon.

At one time Renner was rumored to be getting replaced with Hawkeye getting recast.

The report has it that Paul Bettany was spotted doing a series of costume, hair and make-up tests and worked with stuntmen and armorers.

It’s said Bettany had the makeup applied to his face to give him the Vision appearance as well.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:13617:]]

Paul Bettany is known as the voice of Jarvis for Tony Stark/Iron Man, and now with this news as well as that Ultron looks to be created by Stark, it seems as if similar to the comics, Ultron will also create the Vision (perhaps from Jarvis).

The Vision also happens to be married to the Scarlet Witch in the comics, who is being played by Elizabeth Olsen in The Avengers 2.

The report also mentions that the working title for The Avengers 2 in London is “After Party.”

Update: A second report from Variety confirms that Paul Bettany is the Vision.

Paul Bettany joins Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Elizabeth Olsen, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and James Spader as Ultron.

The Avengers 2 has a May 1, 2015 release.

Now Vin Diesel Could Be Thanos For Marvel Studios

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:9708:]]

We know that Vin Diesel had a meeting with Marvel Studios with the actor stating an announcement would be forthcoming.

However, then Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige set the record straight stating there would be no announcement.

Well, that hasn’t stopped Vin Diesel from plugging himself, as the actor now hints at the role that looks to have been discussed; that is assuming he is telling the truth because, apparently, Diesel posted an image of himself on his Facebook stating the Marvel Studios meeting went well when it hadn’t happened yet.

Regardless, the latest regarding Vin Diesel and his Marvel Studios future is something to do with a love story, which could be looked at as a big clue to his potential character.

Vin Diesel tells EW, “Marvel was excited about bring a different kind of relationship, a different kind of love story, I guess kind of inspired from the Dom-Letty relationship, into the Marvel universe.”

Marvel Cosmic fans will note that a “different kind of love story” could mean Thanos‘ obsession with Death. In the comic books, Death is an abstract being who is depicted as a female wearing a robe, and at times, a skull-face, who doesn’t give the Mad Titan the time of day. In turn, Thanos continually tries to court Mistress Death through his acts of violence and murder. The villain from the mid-credits scene in The Avengers movie will next be seen in the James Gunn-directed Guardians of the Galaxy movie.

Another possibility of course could be one that Vin Diesel seems more excited to play and that is with the Vision. With Scarlet Witch appearing in The Avengers 2, Vision, a robot, would fit the “different kind of love story” theme quite well. Diesel previously posted an image of Vision on his Facebook.

More Evidence That Clark Gregg Is The Vision In The Avengers 2

Ever since Agent Phil Coulson, played Clark Gregg, seemingly met his demise at the hands of Loki in The Avengers movie, fans have been theorizing that Clark Gregg will appear as The Vision in The Avengers 2.

There is the fact that we never saw Coulson’s dead body, as last we saw, the EMT’s were working on the agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Then, there is the fact that apparently Clark Gregg has signed on to do six Marvel Studios movies, but has only played in four.

Joss Whedon also didn’t exactly deny a Vision appearance in The Avengers 2 when questioned, either.

And now this is where things get good — at least we like to think so.

The Avengers Blu-Ray DVD hits the United States on September 25th, but it’s already out in the UK and various other international countries.

Check out the two following images. The first is from the original showing of The Avengers movie, with the second from the UK Blu-Ray.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:3127:]]

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:3129:]]

While Bleeding Cool is less skeptical about a “retcon” than we are, we here at Cosmic Book News are hoping for the best and wish to see Agent Phil Coulson as the Vision in The Avengers 2.

The obvious question regarding the change is: Was the scene edited for UK censorship reasons — or something else?

However, reportedly, the U.S. version is still intact which includes the bloody “death.”

But was there a mistake during production of the DVD leaving it in on U.S. editions by accident, as to “retconCoulson’s “death” for an appearance in The Avengers 2?

We’ll find out eventually.

The Avengers 2 assembles May 1, 2015 with Iron Man 3 on May 3, 2013, Thor: The Dark World on November 8, 2013, Captain America: Winter Soldier on April 4, 2014, and the Guardians of the Galaxy movie on August 1, 2014.

Joss Whedon Doesn’t Talk About Clark Gregg As The Vision In Avengers 2

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:3065:]]

The Avengers movie saw uber-fan-favorite character S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Phil Coulson, played by Clark Gregg, apparently meet his demise.

Apparently because — the audience never saw him actually die; Coulson was left getting worked on by the EMTs.

It’s been widely speculated on the internet that Clark Gregg will return to The Avengers 2, not as S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Phil Coulson, but as The Vision.

Director Joss Whedon was recently asked about Clark Gregg, The Vision, and The Avengers 2, with the director not denying or confirming the rumor.

Basically Joss Whedon beats around the bush, discussing his can do’s and don’t’s with Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige.

The Huffington Post asks Whedon about The Vision in The Avengers 2 and if he has the power to make it so. Here’s Whedon’s response:

I have some power, you know? I think there’s a level of trust. You know, Kevin Feige and I have always had mutual respect, and on the first movie he was very supportive. But there were definitely things where they were like, “Hmm, we don’t see that.” And I think now Kevin’s in a place where it would be more like, “We don’t see it, but we think you do.”

Joss Whedon continues mentioning how he doesn’t have a green light to do anything he wants, but notes how in their discussions they go back and forth about various possibilities.

Yeah. And that doesn’t mean they’re just going to roll over and I’m going to say, “Oh, it’s ‘Great Lakes Avengers’ and we’re going to get Squirrel Girl and you’re gonna love it.” You know, they need to believe. But all I want to do is make the movie that they want. And so it’s been great. We’re having that same kind of, “What if? Oh, and what if?” And “I was thinking it would be funny … ooh ooh ooh.” There’s definitely a level of earned trust, but as with any good studio head or producer, that doesn’t mean a free pass.

So is Agent Coulson a possibility in The Avengers 2? While Joss Whedon doesn’t say so, it’s been said that Clark Gregg has signed on to do 6 Marvel Studios movies — but only appeared in 4 so far.

There’s also been something about Vin Diesel wanting to play The Vision as well.
