Disney has thanked the fans for their support of Star Wars: The Force Awakens as the new trailer was shown on ESPN in front of 16 million viewers and also netted 112 million views on YouTube in its first 24 hours.

They’re real.

After two record-breaking teasers, the full trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens debuted earlier this week, and we are humbled by the response. The sneak peek shown during ESPN’s Monday Night Football was seen by a TV audience of over 16 million, followed by an immediate release on YouTube, Facebook, and platforms worldwide. In just 24 hours, the trailer was viewed online more than 112 million times. That’s 128 million times globally in a single day! But more than numbers, there was discussion, there were reaction videos, there were fun memes. There were cheers and there were tears from fans young and old. We saw and loved it all, and it meant the world to the creators of the film. And we were equally blown away by the advance ticket sales.

Websites slowed, crashed, and became one with the Force. (There probably hasn’t been this big of a network jam in a galaxy far, far away since the Emperor’s trap in the Battle of Endor.) Incredibly — but not surprisingly — you set numerous records, including the biggest-ever 24 hours for advance sales in numerous countries. In the UK, more than 200,000 tickets were sold in the first day. In Norway, you braved subzero temperatures overnight to make sure you were among the first to see the film. Fortunately, there are still plenty of tickets to be had for opening weekend and beyond.

All of us at Lucasfilm are totally overwhelmed by the enthusiasm we’ve seen from fans this week and throughout the lead-up to this film. And we still have 56 days to go until the official December 18 release date!

Thank you all for making the Star Wars universe what it is, and for keeping it alive and growing and meaningful. Star Wars is back and beginning an exciting new journey, and it’s because of you.

With Star Wars: The Force Awakens crashing web servers and shattering ticket sales, it’s being speculated the opening weekend for the film will be strong with The Force.

Predictions are coming in that Star Wars: The Force Awakens may bring in $600 million or higher for its opening weekend, which would topple this Summer’s Jurassic World debut of $524 million.

THR reports some film industry analysts expect Star Wars: The Force Awakens to net $300 million in the U.S. with another $300 million internationally. It’s also expected that Star Wars: The Force Awakens will open big in China, which has become a force in its own right among ticket sales, as Disney recently started a huge campaign with a Star Wars Great Wall of China promotion (the Chinese release date is yet to be announced).

It’s also being reported that Star Wars: The Force Awakens tickets have been sold on eBay for upwards of $1500, but AMC Theaters notes opening day tickets are still available and screenings will be held around the clock. In addition, the report mentions that many IMAX theaters were only selling tickets for the first four days in order to make enough tickets available closer to the release date.

Ticket sales for Star Wars: The Force Awakens recently crashed Fandango as the site sold eight times as many tickets as it did for the previous record-holder, which was held by The Hunger Games.

And in case you are wondering, the all-time box office gross is held by Avatar at $2.788 billion.

With the release of the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer, Playboy puts their own spin on things with the help of Playmate, model and actress Sara Jean Underwood.

Underwood poses as a variety of Star Wars characters including the fan-favorite Slave Princess Leia as well as Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, a Stormtrooper, Admiral Ackbar, R2-D2 and more.

About twenty minutes ago saw Fandango announce that Star Wars: The Force Awakens tickets had gone on sale.

Well, similar to the UK, the Fandango web site has crashed.

The Fandango web site puts out a 503 error as it’s getting too much traffic.

I was actually on the site about an hour or so ago, and it said tickets were going on sale at 10pm ET, but it appears they actually went on sale at 8pm ET.

Twitter has already been lit up about the Fandango site crashing, with some noting they were able to get tickets.

While tickets in the U.S. don’t go on sale until after tonight’s trailer debut on ESPN, it’s learned that advance ticket sales for Star Wars: The Force Awakens have crashed UK movie theater web sites.

THR reports one cinema chain said it had sold 10,000 tickets to Star Wars: The Force Awakens in the first 90 minutes of them going on sale, and that servers are buckling due to the high demand.

Twitter has lit up with complaints as well; however, the latest tweets to seem to indiciate things are running more smoothly.

Following what looks to be an ESPN confirmation about the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer for Monday, now the Fandango website has confirmed tickets will go on sale Monday as well.

A user on Reddit snapped the above screenshot which states “Tickets for Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens 3 An IMAX Experience will be available for purchase on Monday, October 19, 2015, at 7pm PST/10pm ET.”

The time the tickets go on sale seems to corroborate the ESPN trailer news as Monday Night Football kicks off at 8:30pm ET with the Giants vs the Eagles.

Update: Various movie theaters are reporting Star Wars: The Force Awakens tickets may go on sale as early as Monday afternoon.

As I noted in my report on Force Friday, missing from all the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens merchandise were the original characters, and now we know why.

In an interview with the Star Wars design director at Hasbro, Steve Evans, it’s mentioned the merchandise released for Force Friday was specifically chosen to avoid spoilers and featured products already seen in the trailer and the first third of the movie (via fastcodesign).

Matter of fact, if you thought you had seen all The Force Awakens merchandise previewed on Force Friday, think again. While dozens of new action figures were shown off, those were carefully selected to be only from the first third of the film so as to not give away anything which hasn’t been already seen in the trailers.

“As we lead up to December 18th, there’s a certain amount that gets released,” says Evans. “There are certain surprises from our product line that no one knows about, that we’ll release leading up to the movie, at the movie, and beyond the movie.”

Another character noted to be absent from not only the merchandise but all the promotions is Supreme Leader Snoke played by Andy Serkis. Per Evans’ words above, we’ll eventually see Snoke in action figure form as soon as the character is revealed in a trailer or even following the premiere of the movie.
