Hayden Christensen Rumored For Darth Vader

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22198:]]

Darth Vader is once again rumored to be returning for Star Wars, with this time it being said Hayden Christensen may play the role in Episode VIII.

Darth Vader has been rumored to be returning for some time – for almost 3 years – with the latest rumor coming from MakingStarWars.

The site claims a fully operational Darth Vader chest piece and helmet have been created for Star Wars: Episode VIII, with it also said a LucasFilm team is going to train Hayden Christensen as Vader. It’s also been suggested Vader may have some sort of role in the Star Wars anthology, Rogue One, which takes place between Episodes III and IV.

Hayden Christensen, of course, played Anakin Skywalker in the prequels.

Whether the rumor is true is anybody’s guess, but as seen in Episode III, when Anakin became Darth Vader, the voice of James Earl Jones was used. By suggesting Hayden Christensen is going to be used implicates at the least his face will be seen on screen. Will Christensen’s voice be used when the mask is off? It’s also possible the scene could be short as, according to the rumor, only one Darth Vader suit was created, when in previous movies, numerous Darth Vader suits were used for filming.

Darth Vader is easily the most recognizable character in Star Wars, does the Disney merchandising machine want to capitalize on Darth Vader’s brand recognition as much as possible?

“Star Wars: Episode VIII” has a May 26, 2017 release directed by Rian Johnson.

Watch: Mark Hamill Pours Beer In Ireland While Filming Star Wars: Episode VIII

Amid wild rumors of Mark Hamill’s near death in Ireland, we now have video confirmation of the actor being present for filming Star Wars: Episode VIII.

For the past couple of days or so, Hamill and director Rian Johnson have been filming Episode VIII scenes at Skellig Michael, an island off the coast of Southern Ireland, which is also featured in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

The local town, Portmagee, served as the temporary home to the cast and crew, and now a news report surfaces featuring Mark Hamill.

As the film recently finished shooting in Ireland, a local news crew spotted Mark Hamill pouring beer at a local pub, the Bridge Bar

Worth a note is that Hamill has apparently shaved off his beard for Episode VIII

Rumor: Original Star Wars Trilogy Re-Release Coming From Disney & Fox

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22191:]]

If good friend to George Lucas John Landis’ words are anything to go by, Disney and Fox will be re-releasing the original movie versions of Star Wars, which means, yes, Han shot first.

As many Star Wars fans are aware of (and annoyed about), George Lucas re-mastered the original trilogy to enhance digital effects and change scenes.

The original version of the trilogy can only be found on old VHS tapes and laser disk, but that may change if Landis’ words hold true.

Empire Magazine tweeted out that Landis (Animal House, Blues Brothers, Trading Places, Spies Like Us) stated Disney is going to finally re-release the original Star Wars trilogy.

Now there seems to be some question regarding the truth to Landis’ comments as it’s known Fox Studios owns the distribution rights to the first 1977 Star Wars: A New Hope film; however, we can point to the fact that Landis is friends with Lucas as being evidence enough, and also the following tidibt.

In a report by the Wall Street Journal, it’s mentioned Disney and Fox have come to a deal with Tencent Holdings to release the six Star Wars movies online in China. Obviously this isn’t direct proof, but at the least it does show Star Wars is getting re-released (albeit not in its original form), and we can also beg the question if Disney does want an original re-release, why wouldn’t Fox hop on board as obviously they would benefit as well?

Disney aquired the rights to the five Star Wars films when it purchased LucasFilm for $4 billion back in 2012 from George Lucas. and has also recently licensed out their five Star Wars movies to Netflix in Latin America, with Fox not yet committing. Disney is also rumored to be releasing Star Wars in the U.S. on Netflix, but sources have stated Disney is withholding from doing so because the online and VOD versions have been lucarative.

In releasing Star Wars on Netflix for Latin America and China, the WSJ report mentions Disney is attempting to build brand recognition in preparation for Star Wars: The Force Awakens; it’s possible an original re-release some time down the road could be a part of that plan as well.

Mark Hamill Shoots Down Star Wars Near Death Skellig Michael Rumors

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22148:]]

The Force is still strong with Mark Hamill as the actor has taken to Twitter to shoot down the latest rumors that stated the actor almost died while filming Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Reports surfaced that Hamill slipped on Skellig Michael and was caught by an Irish guide, saving Hamill from impending doom.

Skellig Michael is known for being a dangerous place as a couple of tourists have actually died there as the climb is filled with rough terrain and rugged steps.

Mark Hamill posted on Twitter that the reports are “#falsenews.”

“Fabricated stories usually contain a seed of truth,” Hamill tweeted. “Didn’t so much as stub a toe on Skellig Michael. But thanks for your concern!”

Mark Hamill stars as Luke Skywalker for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which gets released this December. It’s also thought the actor will be back for Episode VIII, which is currently prepping for filming in Ireland as well.

Rumor: Mark Hamill Almost Killed During Star Wars Filming

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22120:]]

Update: Mark Hamil has said the rumor is false news.

Earlier saw the news of Star Wars: Episode VIII filming in Ireland with set pics and possible details, and now a new rumor is stating Mark Hamill was almost killed last year while filming The Force Awakens at the same location.

According to the UK’s Mirror, an onlooker witnessed Mark Hamill slipping during a “dangerous climb in a treacherous spot” on Skellig Michael.

It’s claimed Mark Hamill took a tumble on the steps leading to the Christan Monastery, but his life was saved by a quick-acting guide from the Irish Office Of Public Works who caught the actor.

Various other UK gossip sites and the NY Daily News are reporting similar news.

This isn’t the first time a mishap has occurred on the set of the new Star Wars movie as Harrison Ford and JJ Abrams both sutained injuries when the door of the Millennium Falcon crashed down. Harrison’s ankle was injured and Abrams broke his back.

Hamill also was involved in a car accident the day before he was to shoot a final scene for Star Wars: A New Hope.

Star Wars: Episode VIII Ireland Set Pics & Rumors

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22113:]]

It was recently learned that Star Wars: Episode VIII will be filming in Ireland, and now pre-production set pics and even rumors have hit the net.

Potential spoilers follow.

Set images from Skellig Michael in Ireland reveal director Rian Johnson as well as equipment and tents being set up.

According to a local who has talked with workers on the set, the scene is said to possibly involve Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker and what may be a Jedi Monastery.

Note: Hamill filmed scenes for Star Wars: The Force Awakens at the same location last year, so this could obviously be the same setting in both films. It’s also mentioned that Hamill’s family is currently in Ireland.

StarWars7News has it as:

Tents and tarps full of equipment were all over the island completely unguarded apart from one tent which lay on top of a fake sandy coloured rock built for the filming… My guess is Luke will be standing on that tomorrow. Talking to people who I can’t name as they were afraid of getting in trouble, we discovered that there were definitely droids already locked away on the island (presumably BB-8 or R2-D2 or both, but couldn’t confirm because they hadn’t seen any of the movies). Along with the droids were weapons, presumably a lightsaber or two. We also discovered that the set had been described as a “Jedi Monastery”, (although I don’t know the validity of that) and scenes were to have wind and rain machines, which we later discovered and took photos that you can see here.

“Star Wars: Episode VIII” has a May 27, 2017 release.

Zack Snyder Jabs At Marvel & Ant-Man; Talks More Batman Vs Superman

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22035:]]

Zack Snyder is making the press rounds as of late promoting his involvment in the Doritos Superbowl contest where the director has been talking about Batman Vs. Superman and Justice League. Snyder previously commented on the Robin rumors in the film, and now again comments on recent statements by Steven Spielberg that said the superhero movie genre might go the way of the Western, which sees Snyder take a jab at Marvel and Ant-Man.

Speaking with The Daily Beast, Snyder insinuates that the Marvel movies have no staying power compared to the DC characters.

“It goes to the mythological nature of the movies that we’re making,” Snyder said in regards to Spielberg’s sentiments. “I feel like [Spielberg’s] right. But I feel like Batman and Superman are transcendent of superhero movies in a way, because they’re Batman and Superman. They’re not just, like, the flavor of the week Ant-Man—not to be mean, but whatever it is. What is the next Blank-Man?”

Snyder says both Batman and Superman are of mythological proportions and again takes another jab at Marvel.

“It’s a tricky process, setting up the DC universe, or Justice League,” Snyder said. “The credit goes to [Batman Begins director] Chris Nolan because he set the die for the DC Universe in a great way that I tried to emulate. I look at it as more being mythological than, say, bubblegum. And I think that that’s appropriate for Batman and Superman because they’re the most mythological of our superheroes.”

The interview also sees Zack Snyder confront another rumor that Batman Vs. Superman will feature more of Batman (which is a no-brainer if you think about it as it’s the first Ben Affleck Batman appearance).

“Only in that because it’s a different Batman than the Batman that was in the Chris Nolan movies, so we have a little bit more explaining to do—and you justhad a whole Superman movie,” he smiled. “But I think only in that way, because you need to understand where Batman is with everything. And that’s more toward the beginning, but it evens back out as it goes on.”

Update: Snyder talks more about Marvel and Ant-Man as well as the possility of George Miller directing a DC movie.

“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” has a March 25, 2016 release starring Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jeremy Irons as Alfred, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Ray Fisher as Cyborg with Callan Mulvey, Holly Hunter as Senator Finch and Tao Okamoto as Mercy Graves. Justice League is to follow directed by Zack Snyder as well.

Synopsis:

Fearing the actions of a god-like Super Hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before.

Star Wars: Episode VIII Filming In Ireland

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22016:]]

Disney and LucasFilm are returning to Ireland to film Star Wars: Episode VIII as it’s reported the Irish government has unveiled a new partnership to allow use of the ancient location of Skellig Michael.

THR reports  permission has been granted for Lucasfilm to return to the historical location, which has been a protected UNESCO world heritage site since 1996, provided no damage comes to the island’s ecology or bird life.

“Sceilg Mhichil (Skellig Michael) is one of our most dramatic and beautiful islands and it is very easy to understand why its stunning scenery has caught the attention of the makers of one of the world’s biggest film franchises,” said government official Heather Humphreys in a statement. “The return of Star Wars to Sceilg Mhichil is another win for Ireland and the Irish film industry, which is a growing and dynamic sector of our economy.”

Humphreys added: “Specialist staff from my Department have been in discussions with Lucasfilm since March of this year in relation to a limited amount of filming, expected to last two to four days.”

J.J. Abrams’s filmed Star Wars: The Force Awakens at Skellig Michael last year.

The untitled “Star Wars: Episode VIII” has a May 26, 2017 release date directed by Rian Johnson.

Advanced Review: Star Wars: Shattered Empire #1

Warning: Spoilers Dead Ahead!

Marvel has been wasting no time churning out Star Wars related comics month after month but this is the first to introduce and pave the way for the future! Don’t let the cover fool you, Rucka is making the journey to The Force Awakens less about the old and more about the new.

Shattered Empire begins during the final moments of Return Of The Jedi, as we see the destruction of the second Death Star and the celebration on Endor. But Rucka doesn’t focus on redundancy for fans, rather, he takes us deeper into the original tale by allowing us access inside the communications of the Green, Red, Yellow and Gold Squads during that epic battle. He glazes over the Star Wars hierarchy in order to push to the forefront the “workers without the glory” and makes us ponder those background characters that paid the ultimate sacrifice for freedom.

Some of those “background” characters will be playing key roles for the future of the franchise, with this book paying special attention to two in particular. Shara Bey, the Green Four A-Wing pilot that the book mainly revolves around and Kes Dameron, a pilot in the Pathfinder Strike Team and Shara’s lover. One can only assume that these two will become the parents of ace X-Wing Fighter pilot, Poe Dameron, that will be sharing the spotlight with Finn and Rey in The Force Awakens!

Although Rucka excites the reader with the possible hints at what may come in the future, he hasn’t found the “voice” of the original cast the way Jason Aaron has in the current Star Wars comic series. The dialogue seems lackluster and forced with an array of “background chatter” to fill the void of something significant. Even the few moments between Shara and Kes are short lived and mediocre at best, which is a shame, due to their proposed significance.

But what Rucka has lacked in immediate dialogue, Checchetto has more than made up for with his art! From lightsaber duel splash pages to A-Wing / Tie-Fighter battles, Checchetto astounds the eye and captivates the reader into the world that mesmerized us all as children. His thin lines and character renderings are wondrous and has shown unbelievable improvement since his years on The Punisher! With tone perfect colors by Andres Mossa, you can flip through this book numerous times and find things you never noticed before. Amazing!

Overall, this book relies too much on fans buying in due to the tag line and not for the story that unfolds. It is okay but lacks that hook that will keep readers slack jawed and wanting more. Buy it for the outstanding art and believe in the Force that issue #2 gives us the tale we are looking for!

It’s possibly Disney may be releasing a second wave of merchandise near the movie’s release in order to avoid spoilers.

Force Friday Comic Shop Merchandise Revealed

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21969:]]

One of the most widely anticipated retailing events related to the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens takes place today which Disney Licensing has deemed Force Friday. While many Star Wars: Force Awakens items are already available for purchase at mass retail outlets (with many stores holding midnight release openings), Diamond is excited to reveal its first wave of Star Wars: The Force Awakens merchandise available for comic shops to order.

Check out the complete catalog below.

“Our goal is to remind comic shop customers that their comic shop has been a great source for Star Wars merchandise over the years– and they will be again for the new film and its merchandise,” said Diamond’s Consumer Marketing Manager, Andy Mueller.  “We’ll be hitting all of the constituents from PREVIEWSworld, FreeComicBookDay and ToyChestnews to remind them about Star Wars products coming to comic shops and showcase the e-catalog for them to check out.”

“We’ve been working with our suppliers to ensure that we have a great mix of Star Wars product available to comic shops,” said Diamond’s Director of Vendor Development, Eric Burkhardt.  “Many of the items from Hasbro and Funko are currently in stock and available for immediate order on Friday, and we will continue to stock new items as they become available for shipping.”

Suspense has built steadily around the myriad toys that have been created in advance of the Episode VII in the Star Wars series, and demand is expected to be high as consumers add these items to their collections.

“All in all, mass retail outlets will reap the initial benefits of new Star Wars: The Force Awakens merchandise, but comic shops won’t be far behind as retailers have cultivated their shops as the headquarters for all things Star Wars over the years!” concluded Mueller.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Force Friday Target Midnight Launch Report

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Spot

Tonight at midnight marked the start of Force Friday, the day when the Star Wars: The Force Awakens merchandise went officially on sale.

I arrived at a local Target around 11:30pm to find the store doors already open greeted by displays of The First Order Stormtroopers, a Tie Fighter and Chewbacca.

I proceeded to the toy area where I found the section roped off with a Target employee not letting anyone near the merchandise. I was allowed to snap a few pics, but not able to get too close. There was a second section in the back where they keep the seasonal merchandise that featured additional Star Wars products as well; there I found a group of Target employees ready to leap into action.

So to the end of the line I went, where my hand was stamped with a red-colored Target logo (not sure why, no one checked) and given a raffle ticket for a chance to win a Chewbacca plush (maybe 48 inches tall or so). All in all, I would say there were around 200-300 people waiting in line by the time midnight came around.

It took only about 12 minutes past midnight to get my first look at the Star Wars: The Force Awakens merchandise. I started in the seasonal section, which features Star Wars T-shirts, Halloween costumes and various items. I managed to nab a Target exclusive Kylo Ren Pop! Vinyl figure, which went pretty fast as only two were left. I grabbed a Kylo Renn lightsaber (cheap one), and then overheard a Target employee being asked about the Black figures. Uh oh. Yep. Target was already out of stock on those. The Star Wars: The Force Awakens Black figures were the fastest item to go. I would probably say in 15 minutes they were all gone.

There was a second line to get to the toy aisles, which was again roped off, and Target was only letting a few people in at a time. While I waited, I overheard some fans getting excited over the Star Wars X-Wing Miniatures Game. Apparently, one of the guys wanted to buy five of them, but Target limited one per purchase. They remarked about people not knowing what the item was — like it was some secret power of The Force — with one guy worried he wouldn’t be able to get one. I managed to grab a box and told the guy where he could find it.

I picked up some other items, which you can check out below. Target also gave customers a cool Star Wars: The Force Awakens BB-8 tote bag, and the cashier at the register scanned the Target Star Wars coupons, so you don’t have to worry about having your own copies.

I also stopped by Toys R’ Us on my way home, but similar to Target, they were sold out of the Black Series figures as well. Toys R Us did give away a Stormtrooper First Order LEGO piece.

One thing I noticed just about everywhere, is that there is no merchandise from Star Wars: The Force Awakens featuring any of the original characters. Maybe closer to the movie’s release?
