The new Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer may have offered the first look at Sadie Sink’s mysterious character, and fans already think Marvel is teasing Jean Grey.
Sony never clearly shows the actress’ face, but there are multiple shots in the trailer that appear to feature the actress in what looks like a major storyline tied to experimentation, escape, and possibly something much bigger involving Bruce Banner and Hulk.
Note: Spoilers may follow.

Trailer Includes Three Possible Sadie Sink Scenes
There are at least three moments in the trailer that seem to focus on who fans believe is Sadie Sink’s character.

One shot shows a young woman strapped to a chair with what looks like metal restraints around both wrists. The setup appears to be inside some kind of hidden room or lab, which could point to experimentation or an attempt to contain dangerous abilities and damper her powers.

Another scene shows the walls of that room lifting, which suggests an escape or a power being unleashed.
A third shot shows a hooded figure, believed to be the same character, standing in front of computer and camera equipment with both arms raised, almost like she is reacting to or controlling whatever just happened.

Jean Grey Rumors Keep Getting Stronger
Sadie Sink has long been rumored to be playing Jean Grey, and the new trailer is only going to add more fuel to that speculation.
If that is who she is playing, the restrained-chair scene could be Marvel’s way of introducing a powerful mutant whose abilities are either being studied, suppressed, or used by someone else. The escape-style footage only adds to that theory.
Nothing has been officially confirmed, but the trailer definitely looks like it is setting up Sink as more than just a side character. Footage from the set revealed a first look at Sadie Sink.

Could Jean Grey Be Tied To Savage Hulk?
One of the bigger rumors surrounding the movie has claimed that Jean Grey’s powers end up unleashing Savage Hulk from Bruce Banner.
That rumor now stands out more because the trailer also includes a first look at Mark Ruffalo as Banner.
If Sink is playing Jean Grey, and if her powers play a role in bringing out Hulk again, that would be a huge development not just for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but for the wider MCU as well. Kevin Feige has confirmed the new age of mutants kicks off after Avengers: Secret Wars.

Spider-Man May Also Have New Powers
The trailer also seems to tease major changes for Spider-Man himself.
One sequence appears to show Peter Parker emerging from a cocoon-like state, which has sparked speculation that he is going through some sort of transformation.
Fans also think the footage hints at Spider-Man possibly having organic web shooters instead of relying only on tech.
Is that transformation due to Sadie Sink’s Jean Grey “unlocking” Spider-Man’s powers, similar to Jean unleashing the Savage Hulk from Banner’s mind?
If true, that would be a major shift for Tom Holland’s version of the character and could mean Brand New Day is doing a lot more than just introducing new villains and supporting characters.

Marvel And Sony May Be Hiding A Bigger Reveal
Marvel and Sony are clearly keeping Sink’s role under wraps, but the trailer may have already given away more than intended.
Between the restrained chair, the mysterious lab setup, the hooded figure, the Banner footage, and the growing Jean Grey rumors, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is starting to look like it could include one of the biggest mutant reveals in the MCU so far.
The trailer may have also spoiled Daredevil: Born Again Season 2.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits theaters on July 31st.
