Is Sadie Sink playing Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day? For now, Marvel still isn’t saying.
Sink is confirmed for the movie, but Marvel and Sony have kept her role under wraps. The Jean Grey rumor has become the biggest theory around her character, helped by the red hair, the X-Men timing, and recent footage that fans think points to Marvel Girl, which is the alias the character first used in her comics debut.
The catch? Sink dodged the rumors, and nothing has been confirmed by the studio.

What Marvel Has Confirmed About Sadie Sink
Officially, Marvel has not revealed who Sadie Sink is playing in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
What we do know is that the Stranger Things star is part of the cast, and her role appears to be big enough to keep fans guessing. Sony’s listed cast includes Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando, and Mark Ruffalo.
Everything beyond that remains rumor, including Jean Grey.
Why Fans Think Sadie Sink Is Jean Grey
The Jean Grey theory isn’t coming out of nowhere.
Industry insider Jeff Sneider has said he believes Sink is playing Jean Grey, and Deadline previously noted the prevailing theory was that she could be introduced as the X-Men character.
Then came the footage. As we previously covered, the Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer appeared to tease Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, with fans pointing to a hooded figure wearing yellow and green, which lines up with Jean’s classic Marvel Girl colors from the comics.
The same footage also appeared to hint at mind control or telepathic powers, which only added to the theory.
Add Sink’s red hair from set photos, and it’s easy to see why fans jumped straight to Jean.

Why Marvel Would Hide A Jean Grey Reveal
Marvel hiding Jean Grey would make sense.
This is the same studio that kept Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield out of the Spider-Man: No Way Home marketing, even though everyone knew the rumors. The reveal still worked because Marvel never officially showed its hand.
A Jean Grey debut would be a big deal for the MCU. It would also be one of the first major signs of Marvel building toward its own X-Men after years of using the Fox characters through the multiverse.
If Sink is Jean, Marvel probably doesn’t want that confirmed in a trailer months before release.

Sadie Sink Has Stayed Coy About Jean Grey
Here’s the reason this still isn’t a lock: Sadie Sink hasn’t confirmed the role, but she hasn’t exactly shut it down either.
Asked directly about the Jean Grey rumor, Sink played it coy, calling it “an awesome rumour” while adding that she has “nothing to say about this.” She also pushed back on fans reading too much into her red hair, saying “hair colour can change,” and pointed out that the speculation started before she had even signed on.
So it’s not a denial. It’s more of a classic Marvel non-answer.
That only keeps the theory alive. Until Marvel confirms the role, the honest answer is that Sink is rumored to be Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but nothing is official yet.

Other Sadie Sink Rumors Are Still Out There
The Jean Grey theory is the loudest one, but it isn’t the only one.
Before the Jean talk took over, rumors claimed there would be a female villain in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Rumors have also suggested she might be tied to Jon Bernthal’s Punisher, possibly as a sidekick-type character.
There has also been talk that the role changed during development. One rumor claimed Marvel originally had a larger female villain role in the movie, but shifted things around after certain actresses passed.
A recent plot synopsis also teased a hidden villain behind-the-scenes.
That could explain why the reports have been all over the place.

How Hulk Could Factor Into The Jean Grey Theory
One of the bigger rumors connects Sink’s mystery character to Hulk.
The theory is that her powers could somehow trigger a more savage version of Hulk. We previously covered set spoilers claiming Sadie Sink’s character could be tied to Hulk and an ambulance sequence, which only added to the speculation.
Fans have also pointed to Spider-Man’s green web-shooters, which could be anti-gamma tech built to deal with Hulk. That lines up with the toy teases we covered for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, including what appeared to be anti-gamma webbing.
There’s also the recent figure leak pointing to the return of a feral or savage Hulk, which could explain why Spider-Man would need upgraded tech in the first place.
This part should still be treated carefully. The “Feral Hulk” angle and gamma webbing talk are based on leaks, toys, and speculation, not Marvel officially explaining the plot.
Still, if Sink is playing Jean Grey, a telepathic character being tied to Hulk losing control would fit.

What It Could Mean For The MCU X-Men
If the Jean Grey rumor is true, Spider-Man: Brand New Day could be doing more than setting up Peter Parker’s next chapter.
It could also be planting the seeds for the MCU’s X-Men.
The timing lines up. Spider-Man: Brand New Day opens July 31, 2026, just months before Avengers: Doomsday, which is bringing back several Fox-era X-Men actors.
Introducing a younger MCU Jean Grey before that would give Marvel a bridge between the old X-Men and whatever comes next. Feige has confirmed the new age of mutants kicks off after Secret Wars.
It would also let Marvel bring in one of the biggest X-Men characters without waiting for a full X-Men reboot.

Has Marvel Released A First Look At Sadie Sink?
Marvel has not released an official first look at Sadie Sink’s character.
A leaked image has made the rounds online claiming to show Sink in the movie, which interestingly enough was flagged and taken down as a copyright infringement.
For now, any first look at Sadie Sink in Spider-Man: Brand New Day should be treated as unofficial (there are AI images being floated around) unless the studio releases it.

So Is Sadie Sink Playing Jean Grey?
Probably, but it is still not confirmed.
The clues are there: the red hair, the yellow-and-green costume tease, the possible telepathy, the insider reports, and the timing with Marvel’s X-Men plans.
At the same time, Sink dodged the rumor, Marvel hasn’t confirmed anything, and the reports around her role have changed more than once.
So the safest answer is this: Sadie Sink is heavily rumored to be playing Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but Marvel is still keeping the role secret.
