Joss Whedon Faces $10 Million Lawsuit Over Cabin In The Woods

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20063:]]

With The Avengers 2 set to open in only two weeks, Joss Whedon has been hit with a $10 million copyright infringement lawsuit over the 2012 movie Cabin In The Woods.

THR reports in addition to Whedon, director and co-creator Drew Goddard and Lionsgate have been named as defendants on the lawsuit.

The lawsuit was filed by Peter Joseph Gallagher who claims Whedon and Goddard infringed on his novel, The Little White Trip: A Night In The Pines, which is claimed to shared similar themes, characters and instances with the movie.

Gallagher alleges that Goddard and Whedon came to know about his book when he self-published the novel and “began grassroots efforts” to sell it on the Venice Beach boardwalk and on Santa Monica’s Third Street Promenade. “[The defendants] currently reside and operate out of Santa Monica, California, a short distance from where the Book was sold,” the lawsuit reads.

You can read the full complaint here.

Cabin In The Woods grossed about $67 million at the box office and instantly became a cult-favorite. It’s a great horror flick, if you haven’t seen it.

Batman Vs. Superman Teaser Trailer Rumored For Thursday

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20057:]]

Update: The teaser is now online and can be watched below. You can find info on the IMAX locations for the full trailer here.

Earlier today saw Zack Snyder post and image of himself with a monstrous-sized IMAX camera.

Now it’s being said Snyder and Warner Bros. will be releasing a super-short teaser on Thursday, with the Batman Vs. Superman trailer arriving some time next week.

Latino’s Review El Mayimbe is the source of the info, which is said to be corroborated by other websites.

If true, the info contradicts a composer on the movie who stated the Batman Vs. Superman trailer is attached to the May 15th release of Mad Max; the composer, Junkie XL, has since deleted the tweets.

It’s rumored that Zack Snyder will be releasing five seconds of the Batman Vs. Superman footage at 9am on Thursday, which is an hour before the start of Disney’s Star Wars Celebration, where it’s also rumored the next Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer will debut.

If the info is legit, the Batman Vs. Superman five-second teaser will also give details how to view the trailer in theaters the following Monday.

It’s also said the Batman Vs. Superman trailer will run in front of Avengers 2, which is out May 1st (and earlier in international locations).

Update: The British Board Of Film Classification, which is a web site that lists trailer info, has the Batman vs. Superman trailer listed with a run-time of 2 minutes 6 seconds.

“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” has a March 25, 2016 release starring Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jeremy Irons as Alfred, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Ray Fisher as Cyborg with Callan Mulvey, Holly Hunter and Tao Okamoto in new character roles for the film. Justice League is to follow directed by Zack Snyder as well.

Melissa McCarthy Leader Of Female Ghostbusters (Video)

We get an update in the above video from director Paul Feig about the upcoming Ghostbusters female reboot.

Feig says that Melissa McCarthy will be the leader of the team and also offers that the reboot gives them a chance to do things differently and not just follow the originals, especially with the ghosts/monsters and special effects.

Feig also doesn’t seem too thrilled about the recently announced Ghostbusters universe with the franchise expanding into merchandise, television and a male-driven Channing Tatum Ghostbusters film.

Feig actually dismisses the wider Ghostbusters Universe and offers it won’t affect his film and even states he doesn’t know if the Channing Tatum Ghostbusters movie is definitely happening.

He also offers the announcement was a big surprise to him, with apparently Sony not informing him of the new Ghostbusters venture.

Check out more in the video.

The female Ghostbusters reboot has a July 22, 2016 release also starring Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Cecily Strong and Leslie Jones.

James Gunn Talks Guardians of the Galaxy 2 & 3

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20050:]]

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20049:]]

James Gunn recently attended the Red Carpet premiere for The Avengers 2 where he discussed Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and even mentioned a third film.

Vulture caught up with Gunn who teased the sequel will be more about Star-Lord and his father. Star-Lord’s father was absent from the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie, but is said to be an alien (though apparently SL’s father will be different than the comics).

“There’s a lot of stuff I’m excited about in the new movie,” Gunn offered. “Listen, I’m still excited about Star-Lord’s character and where he goes. At its heart, Guardians is a story about families, and if the first film was about him and his mother, this is a story about fathers. So it’s exciting to go there.”

As Gunn notes “fathers,” perhaps he is also talking about the “fathers” of the other characters as well. Maybe we’ll learn more about the Gamora, Nebula and Thanos relationship or even about Drax’s origins. It’s even possible we could learn more about where Groot came from.

With the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie being such a success, Disney quickly announced a sequel, so it should be no surprise that Gunn mentions the possibility of a third film.

“I knew for a long time what the story of the second one was gonna be,” Gunn said, before teasing, “And the third one!”

Update: Gunn offers more in the following video with: “I think it’s about getting to know the characters a little bit more… and also get a little bit more – I don’t want to say serious – but go a little bit deeper with who the characters are.”

Gunn also says we’ll get to know more from Gamora, Nebula and Yondu “in a way we got to know some of the characters in the first movie.”

Update #2: Gunn offered the follwing on Facebook:

I did five short interviews on the red carpet at the Age of Ultron premiere, and it’s all been distilled to three topics: 1) Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is about Fatherhood, 2) We’ll get to know Gamora, Nebula, and Yondu more in the sequel, and 3) I think the mix for Awesome Mix Vol. 2 is better than Awesome mix Vol. 1. There. I just saved you ten thousand articles.

PS All of this is subject to change. Although I have a very intense and specific 70 page treatment (or scriptment as it’s often called, because it contains dialogue), I am just now diving into the actual script. If inspiration strikes I can, and often do, diverge wildly from my original plan. In a couple weeks, Guardians 2 could center around the love triangle of Awesome Android, Paste Pot Pete, and Taserface, backed by an all-Spice-Girls soundtrack.

“Guardians of the Galaxy 2” has a May 5, 2017 release.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20043:]]

Actor Scott Eastwood has been cast in the Suicide Squad movie where it was rumored the son of Clint Eastwood would be playing the lover interest to Wonder Woman, Steve Trevor.

However, in Variety‘s own report on the departure of director Michelle MacLaren from Wonder Woman, they state sources have filled them in that Eastwood is not playing Steve Trevor, but that WB is testing four other actors for the role for Wonder Woman.

The report makes no mention who Scott Eastwood could be playing in Suicide Squad (which more than likely also may mean he won’t have a role in Wonder Woman.)

Below you can check out an earlier interview with MTV where Eastwood was asked about Steve Trevor.

So with Eastwood potentially not playing Trevor, just who then?

Mark Ruffalo Says Marvel Can’t Make Hulk Solo Movie (Video)

We’ve heard mention of a potential Planet Hulk movie and maybe even World War Hulk some time down the line; however, now it’s learned there can be no new Hulk solo movie.

While many have been asking Marvel and Mark Ruffalo about a new solo Hulk movie for years, now Ruffalo comes out with it and says Marvel can’t even make a Hulk solo movie.

The rights to Hulk solo movies seem to be tied up with Universal Studios (whom also happen to have the rights tied up for Namor).

Ruffalo tells the Collider in an interview: “As far as a Hulk movie, a standalone Hulk movie, Marvel doesn’t really have the rights to that yet. That’s still Universal’s property, so there’s that issue. That’s a big impediment to moving forward with that. Now I don’t think that’s insurmountable, by the way, but I don’t know where it’s going from here for me.”

So we gather from what Ruffalo is saying is that the Hulk can’t be the main character of the movie, like in a “Planet Hulk”; however, as we see with the Avengers movies, the Hulk can be a supporting character in other films. I suppose if Marvel really wanted to, they could do Planet Hulk, but call it “The Warbound” (or some other title) and make sure the Hulk has just enough less screen time than another Marvel character (i.e. another team movie).

Universal apparently has the distribution rights to the Hulk solo films, with Marvel’s parent company, Disney, more than likely not wanting to pair up with Universal.

Ruffalo also mentioned he thinks he has around four Marvel movies left on his contract
– which could be for a Hulk standalone movie if it ever happened – and offers he can appear in any Marvel movies, not just Avengers films.

“I think it’s four now, but that could always go further. That could include different—I could show up in another character’s movie; I could do Avengers 3 and 4; I could do a Hulk standalone; I could do a combination of those things. That’s four or five, I think.”

Regarding Captain America: Civil War, Ruffalo said he hasn’t gotten a call for it, but says: “Sometimes these things happen at the last minute in this world.”

Mark Ruffalo stars as Bruce Banner and the Hulk in The Avengers: Age Of Ultron out May 1, 2015.

Guardians of the Galaxy’s Nicole Perlman Eyed To Write Captain Marvel With Meg LeFauve

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20041:]]

It’s learned that Kevin Feige and Marvel are eyeing the writing duo of Nicole Perlman and Meg LeFauve to write the Carol Danvers Captain Marvel (Ms. Marvel to Cosmic fans) movie.

THR reports that Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige was impressed with their separate takes on Captain Marvel and has thought it best to combine the two for “sensational results.”

It’s said that Perlman and LeFauve are currently in talks, and that no director is presently involved.

Nicole Perlman wrote the first draft of the Guardians of the Galaxy movie and recognized the potential for the Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning comic from early on. Perlman was part of the Marvel Writers Program back in 2009 where she chose Guardians of the Galaxy to adapt. It’s been said that Perlman’s Guardians of the Galaxy was closer to the comic book version and a more serious take on the story and characters than the James Gunn version. Perlman is also set to write a Gamora series for Marvel, which is more serious take on the character than the current Marvel Comics parody versions of Guardians of the Galaxy.

Meg LeFauve co-wrote Pixar’s upcoming Inside Out and also has producer credits with The Dangerous Lives of Alter Boys.

Captain Marvel has a November 2, 2018 release and will not be a part of The Avengers: Age Of Ultron.

THR reports Michelle MacLaren and Warner Bros. have parted ways over “creative differences,” though no specifics are known at this time as to the reason.

“Given creative differences, Warner Bros. and Michelle MacLaren have decided not to move forward with plans to develop and direct Wonder Woman together,” Warner Bros. said in a statement.

Wonder Woman was to mark MacLaren’s directorial debut, with MacLaren known for being an experienced TV showrunner and director including having worked on episodes of Breaking Bad, Walking Dead, Game Of Thrones and Better Call Saul.

It’s also unknown if the change will affect the Wonder Woman release date, which is slated for 2017.

The report states MacLaren was hired in November after months of searching by Warner Bros. who was intentionally seeking a female director at the time. It’s also said that multiple Wonder Woman scripts were being developed of which MacLaren had been heavily involved with shaping.

No mention was made of potential replacements.

Gal Gadot is still set to star as Wonder Woman and does have a role in Batman Vs. Superman out 2016.
