Captain America: Civil War Starts Filming; Vision, Ant-Man, General Ross Confirmed

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20443:]]

Marvel has announced filming on Captain America: Civil War has begun, which includes mention of the cast and synopsis.

Check it out:

Press Release

Marvel Studios has commenced principal photography at Pinewood Studios in Atlanta, Georgia on “Captain America: Civil War,” the third installment of its Super Hero franchise. The production will shoot on location in Atlanta, Georgia, which serves as the base for the film’s production, as well as locations in Germany, Puerto Rico and Iceland.

Set for release in the United States on May 6, 2016, “Captain America: Civil War” is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo (Marvel’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Community”) from a screenplay by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely (“Captain America: The Winter Solider,” Marvel’s “Captain America: The First Avenger”). The film returns Chris Evans (“Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron”) as the iconic Super Hero character Steve Rogers/Captain America along with Robert Downey Jr. (“Avengers: Age of Ultron,” Marvel’s “Iron Man 3”) as Tony Stark/Iron Man, Scarlett Johansson (“Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Captain America: The Winter Soldier”) as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, Sebastian Stan (“Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Captain America: The First Avenger”) as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, Anthony Mackie (“Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Captain America: The Winter Soldier”) as Sam Wilson/Falcon, Paul Bettany (“Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Iron Man 3”) as The Vision, Jeremy Renner (“Avengers: Age of Ultron,” Marvel’s “The Avengers”) as Clint Barton/Hawkeye, Don Cheadle (“Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Iron Man 3”) as Jim Rhodes/War Machine and Elizabeth Olsen (“Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Godzilla”) as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch.

After his debut in Marvel’s “Ant-Man” on July 17, 2015, Paul Rudd (“Ant-Man,” ”Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues”) will make his first appearance alongside the Avengers as Scott Lang/Ant-Man in “Captain America: Civil War.”

The film also includes outstanding additional cast, including Chadwick Boseman (“42,” “Get on Up”) as T’Challa/Black Panther, Emily VanCamp (“Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Revenge”) as Sharon Carter/Agent 13, Daniel Brühl (“Inglourious Basterds,” “Bourne Ultimatum”), Frank Grillo (“Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Warrior”) as Brock Rumlow/Crossbones, William Hurt (“A History of Violence,” Marvel’s “The Incredible Hulk”) as General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross and Martin Freeman (“The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies”).

“Captain America: Civil War” picks up where “Avengers: Age of Ultron” left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.

Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” is produced by Marvel Studios’ president, Kevin Feige, with Louis D’Esposito, Alan Fine, Victoria Alonso, Patricia Whitcher, Nate Moore and Stan Lee serving as executive producers.

Directors Joe and Anthony Russo’s creative team also includes director of photography Trent Opaloch (“Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Elysium”), production designer Owen Paterson (“Godzilla,” “Matrix”), and three time Oscar®-nominated costume designer Judianna Makovsky (“Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone”).

Based on the Marvel comic character first published in 1941, “Captain America: Civil War ” continues the lineage of epic big-screen adventures chronicled in “Iron Man,” “The Incredible Hulk,” “Iron Man 2,” “Thor,” “Captain America: The First Avenger,” “Marvel’s The Avengers,” “Iron Man 3,” “Thor: The Dark World,” “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Guardians of the Galaxy,” “Avengers: Age of Ultron” and the upcoming release schedule, which includes Marvel’s “Ant-Man” on July 17, 2015, Marvel’s “Doctor Strange,” on November 4, 2016, Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy 2,” on May 5, 2017, and Marvel’s “Thor: Ragnarok,” on November 3, 2017.

Marvel Studios most recently continued its unprecedented success with the release of “Avengers: Age of Ultron” on May 1, 2015. The film recorded the second biggest opening weekend of all time with a $191.3 million box office. It has also been the #1 release in every country where it has been released.

The Avengers: Infinity War Teaser

On the heels of the colossal domestic opening of Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, Marvel, the Russo brothers and IMAX Corporation today announced that Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War – Parts 1 & 2, the two-part installment to the global blockbuster franchise, will be shot in their entirety using IMAX and ARRI’s next generation revolutionary 2D digital camera – a joint customized digital version of ARRI’s new large format camera, the Alexa 65.

The two-part Avengers saga marks the first time a Hollywood feature film will have been shot completely using IMAX cameras and will featureIMAX’s exclusive aspect ratio, providing moviegoers a uniquely immersive experience.

Prior to filming Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War – Parts 1 & 2, Joe and Anthony Russo, who also directed Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, will use the IMAX/ARRI 2D digital camera for select action sequences on the forthcoming Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War, which will release in IMAX theatres in May of 2016.

Joe and Anthony Russo stated, “The intent with the Infinity War films is to bring ten years of accumulative storytelling to an incredible climax. We felt that the best way to exploit the scale and scope required to close out the final chapter of these three phases, was to be the first films shot entirely on the IMAX/ARRI Digital camera.”

“Over the years, IMAX has had the incredible good fortune to work with some of the world’s finest, most talented filmmakers, who continue to push the envelope both technically and creatively,” said Greg Foster, Senior Executive Vice President, IMAX Corp. and CEO of IMAX Entertainment. “We could not be more excited to deepen our partnership with Joe and Anthony Russo, a pair of filmmakers we believe are next-generation trailblazers. Marvel’s Avengers franchise has become a global phenomenon and to have it pay off in this epic way using the IMAX/ARRI digital camera is the very definition of event movie-going.”

The next-generation 2D digital camera – co-developed by IMAX and ARRI – is meant for use by today’s leading filmmakers working in the IMAX® format. The joint solution is designed as a complementary tool to IMAX’s high-resolution capture technologies – including its 3D digital and 15perf / 65mm film cameras. Moreover, IMAX worked with ARRI to achieve the highest level of digital image capture for playback on IMAX’s xenon and new laser projection systems.

IMAX recently began rolling out its next-generation laser projection system, with more than 71 laser system deals signed globally to date. Such iconic venues to feature the new system include the newly retro-fitted Airbus IMAX Smithsonian Theatre at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, VA., and Seattle’s Boeing IMAX Theatre at Pacific Science Center, both of which re-opened in time for the release of Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron – the first film to be re-mixed for IMAX’s new 12 channel sound system at these IMAX with laser locations.

Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 is slated for release in IMAX theatres on May 4, 2018; Part 2 will open on May 3, 2019.

Leaked Suicide Squad Images Reveal How Joker Got Tattoos

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20441:]]

So why was Jared Leto seemingly screaming in the first look at Joker image from Suicide Squad?

Well, we may now have the answer as a reported leaked Suicide Squad image reveals Harley Quinn as the tattoo artist.

It’s unclear where exactly the image came from, but if legit, it appears to more resemble concept art than an actual photo.

It also begs the question if indeed it is legitimate whether or not the Joker’s tattoos are real and will be a part of the movie.

Fan reception to the Joker tattoos hasn’t been all that positive, and there has been rumor the Joker tattooes will not be a part of the character in the actual film.

Suicide Squad” has an August 5, 2016 release date directed by David Ayer starring Will Smith as Deadshot, Jared Leto as the Joker, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, Jai Courtney as Boomerang, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Adam Beach as Slipknot, Karen Fukuhara as Katana, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc, Jay Hernandez as El Diablo, and Scott Eastwood in an unknown role.

Rumored Captain America: Civil War Costume Descriptions & Giant-Man Confirmed?

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20370:]]

As often is the case with the Marvel and Avengers movies, the various characters get upgrades and new costumes (works for the merchandising).

Now a potential list of changes for the characters’ looks and costumes for Captain America: Civil War has become known.

We’ve already got an inkling of the changes as some of the characters sported new costumes at the end of The Avengers 2 as part of the New Avengers and reported Captain America: Civil War promo art has shown an updated look for Iron Man (possibly Bleeding Edge armor) and a slight alteration to the Captain America Avengers 2 costume.

The info comes from the Sideshow Collectors forum (Sideshow sells the Hoy Toys collectibles and such).

Captain America: Said to be a modified Avengers: Age Of Ultron suit; a cleaner design sitting somewhere between The Winter Solider stealth and AoU suits. The poster goes on to state that: “Those who think the AoU suit is overdesigned will like this new version. Compared to AoU, they got rid of a lot of the red highlights as well as the white on the biceps. The arms do have a red line going across where the bicep meets the shoulder. The rest of the suit is a direct carryover from AoU, including Avengers logo, arm magnets, and gaiters.”

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20437:]]

Iron  Man: The new suit will be a modified version of The Avengers 2 suit, “but with a few key changes” including: “more gold in the torso and arms to break up the all the 45’s red, smoother faceplate design (similar to the Mk3-7 helmets), and last but not least, an inverted trapezoid cutout over the round chest RT.”

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20436:]]

Black Panther:  The costume is said to be not that much different than the concept art. The poster states: “The suit is generally fabric throughout, with the mask being metal or some other hard material. The necklace is still there. I did get to see some early CGI work showing BP’s movements. They pretty much nailed it, very acrobatic and animal-like, not quite the acrobat as Spider-Man, you can definitely tell BP’s carrying more weight than Spidey as he moves around.”

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20438:]]

Ant-Man: The poster states Ant-Man will be in the movie, presumed to be the Scott Lang version played by Paul Rudd. It’s also said Lang will have the Giant-Man ability and offers the suit looks pretty much the same from this Summer’s Ant-Man movie. “The new ability is most definite.”

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20439:]]

Falcon: His Captain America: Civil War costume is stated to be very dark overall with mostly dark gray and some red. The poster said it reminded him of Wolverine’s X-Men: Days Of Future Past costume, and says it has a “mix of hard armor components and fabric. Wings look pretty much the same as The Winter Soldier.”

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20456:]]

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20457:]]

War Machine: The poster has seen concept art revealing War Machine fighting Falcon, where War Machine is wearing what appears to be a new suit; however, at the same time the poster has seen other concept art for War Machine where it’s the MK2 suit from Iron Man 3 and Age Of Ultron.

Crossbones: Frank Grillo will be featured in full costume as Crossbones, which is said to look very “Stevenson Punisher-esqie.” The Crossbones costume will consist of black tactical gear with crossbones graffit painted on the chest and a skull design on the mask. According to the poster, the Crossbones costume “looks pretty faithful to the comic look.”

“Captain America: Civil War” has  a May 6, 2016 release date directed by Anthony and Joe Russo starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo, Emily VanCamp and Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther.

Mar-Vell Said To Be In Captain Marvel Movie

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20435:]]

Marvel’s first female movie will be launching in 2018 with Captain Marvel featuring Carol Danvers.

It was recently learned the character almost made it into The Avengers 2 as Joss Whedon wanted to include Carol Danvers in the movie, but Marvel thought it best not to introduce her to audiences too quickly without any build up.

Marvel Cosmic fans are familiar with “Captain Marvel” as the original character is the fan-favorite protector of the universe, the Kree soldier Mar-Vell.

While Stan Lee and Gene Colan are credited with creating Mar-Vell, it was Jim Starlin (creator of Thanos) who put the character on the map especially with the Death of Captain Marvel graphic novel, which saw the character killed off in a story with Mar-Vell battling cancer.

Since Mar-Vell’s death, Carol Danvers is the most recent Marvel superhero to don the name, which admittedly many Marvel Cosmic fans aren’t too happy with, but the good news is it’s now looking likely Mar-Vell will be featured in the MCU Captain Marvel film.

Kevin Feige recently participated at a pre-screening Avengers 2 Q&A at USC where he was asked about the Captain Marvel movie taking so long to get to the big screen. Feige is reported to have stated their Captain Marvel movie is about a woman named Carol who takes over Captain Marvel’s powers. Feige also added that he loves to show woman leading.

As fans of the MCU know, the Kree have been featured in Guardians of the Galaxy, with Lee Pace as Ronan, as well as Agents Of SHIELD, the blue alien. In the comics, Mar-Vell first encounters humans when he spies for the Kree on Earth.

Regarding Mar-Vell and Carol Danvers –  Danvers was caught in an explosion with Mar-Vell that saw some of Mar-Vell’s powers transferred to her, which include enhanced strength and flight.

While Feige only let that tidbut about Mar-Vell be known, it does sound as if the Captain Marvel movie will somewhat follow the comics origin, but probably updated for our time. Nicole Perlman happens to be one of the writers on Captain Marvel movie; Perlman wrote a more serious draft of Guardians of the Galaxy, which is assumed to more resemble the 2008 Abnett and Lanning comic of the same name than Gunn’s re-write that offered a more humerous approach to the characters.

“Captain Marvel” has a November 2, 2018 release; no director or actors have been attached as of yet.

Kevin Feige Extends Marvel Contract; Talks MCU

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20434:]]

Good news for fans of the Marvel cinematic universe as it’s learned Kevin Feige has extended his Marvel contract.

Feige recently attended a Q&A at his alma mater, the University of Southern California, where students watched a prescreening of Avengers 2.

Feige offered his Marvel contract has recently been renewed, but wouldn’t say anything more on the subject. Update: It’s now being said Kevin Feige didn’t say his contract has been renewed, but that some of the actors had their contracts renewed.

Feige is the president and producer of Marvel Studios overseeing the billion dollar plus franchise for Disney as well as is involved with Marvel properties at other studios including Sony’s Spider-Man.

The most recent Marvel movie to have debuted, The Avengers: Age Of Ultron, is already at $700 million worldwide. Up next for Feige is Ant-Man, Captain America: Civil War, Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Inhumans, The Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and Part 2 and the new Sony standalone Spider-Man.

At the Q&A, Feige also let it be known that at any given moment Marvel is thinking 10 to 20 years ahead for their films, but is actively working on the next 5 years, and that what matters most is the movie coming out next. Feige said the current long term focus is the Phase 3 movies.

Feige also said that the characters from the Marvel TV series might make future appearances in future films – or they might not – but that they won’t rule anything out.

Another detail mentioned by Kevin Feige was that a scene meant for The Avengers 2 will show up in Captain America: Civil War, which was a joint decision by both Feige and director Joss Whedon. Feige said the scene was one of his favorites.

Regarding the future use of the same actors, Feige let it be known the characters will continue, but whether or not they will continue with the current actors is unknown as absolutely nothing is set in stone.

Feige answered a question regarding the MCU becoming “darker” (I’m guessing compared to the DC movies) with Feige responding the Marvel movies won’t be going that route, but will always have the tone and humor they have now. Feige said he “hoped people would catch on by now” that there will be “no giant dark turns in the MCU – the humor is the DNA of the movies and there are no plans to change that.”

One last tidbit includes mention Quicksilver will stay dead. Feige said Quicksilver won’t be resurrected (i.e. Coulson Lives). Feige said Quicksilver is dead and wanted to make sure people understood that.

Avengers 2 Ultron Concept Art

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20433:]]

Check out what could have been as concept art for Ultron from Avengers 2 has hit the net from what looks to be an art book.

I do recall feeling a bit nervous about the look of Ultron when that first clip was released revealing Ultron talking, but I was pretty happy overall when I saw the movie.

I suppose some of these designs are a bit too menacing compared to the final look and what they were going for with Ultron in the film, which I thought was more of an adolescent “cry baby” (not in a bad way) more than an exterminator type of Ultron.

The third and fourth pics on the top row look pretty cool to me.

Joss Whedon Explains Why He Left Twitter

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20425:]]

Following the weekend debut of Avengers 2, Josh Whedon closed his Twitter account and said good-bye to his 1.14 million followers.

And then the rumors and speculation began to fly.

Apparently one theory had it Whedon left due to the liberaly feminists who weren’t happy with Black Widow’s depiction in Avengers 2.

However, Whedon tells BuzzFeed that’s a bunch of BS.

“That is horseshit. Believe me, I have been attacked by militant feminists since I got on Twitter. That’s something I’m used to. Every breed of feminism is attacking every other breed, and every subsection of liberalism is always busy attacking another subsection of liberalism, because god forbid they should all band together and actually fight for the cause.”

Whedon goes on to explain why he chose to leave.

“I just thought, Wait a minute, if I’m going to start writing again, I have to go to the quiet place. And this is the least quiet place I’ve ever been in my life. … It’s like taking the bar exam at Coachella. It’s like, Um, I really need to concentrate on this! Guys! Can you all just… I have to… It’s super important for my law!”

Whedon does say he would consider going back to Twitter at some point, but the article states the more Whedon talked about it the less likely it seemed.

“I’m sure I’d consider it at some point. It’s a lot of fun. I had a great time.”

Here is what Ayer has to say:

“It’s just so exciting to bring a show like this to the street and get out in the real world with the real people. I’m all about real drama, real performance, and real people, so my twist on this is I’m creating a family, I’m creating a brotherhood here. I’m creating a very real chemistry and I have this incredible ensemble of actors led by Will Smith, who are basically playing dimensional characters with lives and souls. When you feel the performance come through, and the chemistry come through, that can’t be beat.”

Producer Andy Horowitz added: “It’s something different. I think this movie is going to be a very edgy movie. It’s a movie about bad guys who are really coming together to do a good thing. There are not a lot of superhero movies that focus on the bad guys story or the anti-hero.

Watch: Thor Stuntman Bobby Holland Hanton In Avengers 2 Scene

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20419:]]

For those that have seen The Avengers 2, they know it featured tons of action; however, all that action wasn’t done by the pretty-faced actors we see on the big screen, but also by a dedicated group of stuntmen.

Fans are already familiar with Chris Hemsworth’s double, Bobby Holland Hanton, following the set image reveal of the new Thor 2 costume.

Hanton returned for Avengers 2 and not only doubled for Hemsworth, but Captain America Chris Evans as well (pictured above).

Hanton told THR the following about Avengers 2, and check out a video below showcasing Hanton in action as Thor from an Avengers 2 scene.

I started off stunt doubling Captain America before Chris [Hemsworth] had started. I started the show in Korea, filming the sequence on the big truck as Cap. Then I had roughly five to seven weeks before my first bit of Thor stunt stuff came up. That was when my diet and training plans changed and became a lot harder and more intense so I could get to that Thor size. Captain America is in great shape anyway, so I started from that. I went from eating five meals a day to sometimes seven or eight meals a day to put on the extra size. Instead of training once a day in the gym, I went up to two training sessions a day in the gym.

That was split with another stunt double, Andy Lister, who took over the Captain America stuff once we’d gotten back to the UK and I’d turned my attention to Thor. I was hanging off the back of a truck. Ultron blasts the door open and I swing, smashing into the door and kick off and then he blasts again and we land on the road and I was kind of surfing on the back of the door on the road. It was a new experience for me. I had not done much outside of the vehicle work, with live roads and live traffic. I had to really be focused and on top of my game and make sure everything for me was in place.

Bruce Timm Reacts To Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20417:]]

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20416:]]

Many fans think of Bruce Timm as the DC equivalent of Marvel’s Kevin Feige – just that the Warner executives haven’t realized it as of yet.

Timm is responsible for the stellar DC animated series and has Justice League: Gods and Monsters coming out soon.

Bruce Timm was also responsible for bringing Harley Quinn to the limelight and now offers his reaction to the look of Margot Robbie for Suicide Squad.

Timm tells io9 the following:

I just saw the pic like a couple hours ago. It was interesting. I was frankly a little nervous about what Harley would look like, but I thought she looked really cool. So I’m optimistic, we see.

I just saw the one shot of her in the group shot. So far so good.

Timm on the most important elements of Harley Quinn:

It’s funny, because she started off as just like a one joke idea and she’s gained all these different dimensions from all the stories we did, and the stuff that happens in the comics. I think bottom line the most important thing about her is that she’s funny. One way or the other regardless of what her backstory is, or whether she’s in an abusive relationship with the Joker, or if she’s off on her own, or hanging out with Poison Ivy, or whether she’s a villain or a hero. I think bottomline her stories always have to be fun, if not flat out hilarious (but that would be even better). That’s one of the things I like about the current comic. They understand that, they’re not treating her as another angsty bizarre superhero type character. She’s really weird and funny and kind of chaotic.

New Details For Marvel’s Spider-Man & Potential List Of Directors

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20414:]]

New possible information for the new Spider-Man has come to light regarding story and directors.

Deadline is reporting Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal may plan a three or four movie story arc for Spider-Man, each one covering a year in high school for Peter Parker.

It’s also said the Spider-Man origin story will be skipped over for Peter Parker, so we’ll find Peter already with the Spider-Man powers in high school.

It’s said the tone they are searching for in the “coming of age tale” is “John Hughes (Home Alone, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Beethoven, Vacation) humor and emotion, plus all the superhero stuff.”

The list of potential directors is said to include: “50/50 and Warm Bodies writer/helmer Jonathan Levine; Ted Melfi, writer/director of Golden Globe-nommed St. VincentPitch Perfect helmer Jason Moore; John Francis Daley & Jonathan M. Goldstein, the directors/writers of the updated version of John Hughes’ Vacation; and Napoleon Dynamite and Don Verdean writer/director Jared Hess.”

According to the report, the decision could come by the end of next week.

It’s further said a search for the new young actor to play Spider-Man is ongoing as well, and that the role may be cast before the director and writers of the new Spider-Man movie as the character is needed for Captain America: Civil War.

No mention in the report is made of Drew Goddard, who was said to be a Amy Pascal favorite to stick with the franchise following whatever happened to Sinister Six.

The new Spider-Man movie is due out in 2017.

James Gunn & Joe Russo Respond To Joss Whedon Leaving Twitter

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20409:]]

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20408:]]

Earlier last night saw Avengers 2 director Josh Whedon bid his 1.14 milion Twitter followers good-bye and close his account.

Now James Gunn has taken to his Facebook to offer the following.

Imagine being a guy, like Joss Whedon, who has committed his life to fandom and to creating the best characters he possibly can, characters he loves, and has spent two years of his life working on a movie, and then has to wake up to this shit on Twitter. Yes, I know – Age of Ultron has an “A” Cinemascore, and far and away most people loved it. But the angry contingent of fandom is getting more aggressive all the time, and it’s difficult to block out as a person in the public eye.

My plea to all of you – and this is nothing new – is that we all try to be a little kinder, on the Internet and elsewhere. And, honestly, that includes being kind to the people who are tweeting this nonsense. I don’t believe you can tweet about wanting to find a movie director and “curbstomp” him and be a happy person. That person’s statement might make you a little angry – that makes me angry too. But thank God the circumstances of my life and your life didn’t lead us to being the person that has the need to anonymously tweet that to someone on the Internet. And, as much as we may want to respond with vitriol to these tweets, I think that just creates more insanity.

As a young person I was very angry, and it’s something I have worked on, both personally and through years of therapy. And if I can say one truth about anger, it is that anger is almost never anger. Anger – especially aggressive and abusive anger – is a way to deal with feeling insecure, sad, hurt, vulnerable, powerless, fearful, or confused. Those feelings, for many of us, are a lot more difficult to deal with and acknowledge than anger. Anger makes us feel “right”. And powerful. But it also usually exacerbates whatever the underlying, more uncomfortable feeling is.

A couple months ago someone on Twitter wrote me that something one of my characters said in my movie hurt him. I’ve gotten hundreds of tweets from people angry about moments in my films over the years, and I just ignore them, or get angry in return. But that one tweet affected me profoundly. The last thing I want to do with my work is hurt someone, especially someone who already feels disenfranchised. That made me think about what I write and what I put in my films, and I will be more thoughtful about situations like it in the future. That is, one honest and vulnerable tweet affected more change in me than hundreds of angry ones.

So, again, it’s easy to be outraged by these tweets. But whatever these angry tweeters are in need of, I don’t think it’s more anger and more rage thrown back at them on Twitter. I actually think that’s what they’re seeking. But what they need is something different. Compassion, maybe? A kind request for boundaries? I don’t know. Maybe you guys have some ideas.

And by the way – Yes, I know there are real issues at play here. But, again, I don’t think the way to affect change is through rage. That is just going to increase whatever divide you’re experiencing in the first place. I believe that there are a handful of truly evil, awful human beings out there. But the majority of us on all sides of an issue think we’re doing the right thing and are doing the best we can. If we assume that of each other, it makes life a lot easier.

Love you all,
james

Updated: Gunn also posted the following from Joe Russo:

My friend Joe Russo of the Russo brothers on the rage that’s been directed toward Joss Whedon on the Internet the past couple of days: “This kind of vitriol should be reserved for issues that actually demand outrage. Look around at your world… fiction is not one of them.”

Tom Hardy Wants To Play The Punisher

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20400:]]

With Tom Hardy having to bow out of Suicide Squad due to scheduling issues, perhaps the Bane actor can head to greener pastures over at the direct competition.

While speaking with Collider, Hardy offered he wants to play The Punisher, or even a role for a Splinter Cell movie adaptation of the video game.

I want The Punisher… I want The Punisher, or Splinter Cell, I want something…I don’t know what I want.

Hardy goes on to comment that he may be too short for the role of the Punisher, but offers he still would like to do it.

I’m not big enough to be The Punisher, I’m 5’9” [Laughs].

Frank Castle, I would love it.

After watching Tom Hardy in Warrior, my personal pick is for Hardy to be the new Wolverine as Fox looks to be rebooting the X-Men.

Jeremy Renner Talks Calling Black Widow A Slut On Conan (Video)

While promoting The Avengers 2, both Jeremy Renner and Chris Evans found themselves in the hot seat when they joked about Black Widow being a slut and whore.

The two eventually offered an apology for offending anyone about what they said in regards to a fictional character, and now Jeremy Renner talks about it with Conan O’Brien.

‘Yeah, it was a joke. Off-colored or whatever,” Renner explained. “I’m apologetic about a lot of things, but I got into a lot of internet trouble. I guess that’s a thing now. You can get in…”

Renner went on to explain that the question that stirred up all the controversy was that Black Widow has been linked to Hawkeye, Iron Man, Banner and Captain America, with his reaction being, “Well, it sounds liked she is a slut.”

Renner goes on to defend his statements: “Mind you I’m talking about a fictional character and fictional behavior, but Conan, if you slept with four of the six Avengers – no matter how much fun you had – you would be a slut. Just saying. I would be a slut.”

Conan and Renner then joked about which of the Avengers Black Widow would be attracted to, with Conan offering, “We know it’s not Quicksilver. ‘That’s it.’ ‘That’s what I do?’ [laughter].”

Disney Developing New Indiana Jones Movie

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20397:]]

While there has been rumor and talk of a new Indiana Jones movie for some time, now LucasFilm president Kathleen Kennedy finally confirms it will happen.

While talking Star Wars with Vanity Fair, Kennedy states a new Indiana Jones movie will be made.

In buying the company, Disney also got rights, for better or worse, to less-storied Lucasfilm properties, among them Willow and Radioland Murders. A bigger prize is the Indiana Jones franchise. Kennedy confirmed rumors that another Indy movie ‘will one day be made inside this company. When it will happen, I’m not quite sure. We haven’t started working on a script yet, but we are talking about it.

Various rumors mentioned that Harrison Ford would be returning for new Indiana Jones movies as part of his Star Wars contract, and the latest rumor had it that Disney was rebooting Indiana Jones with Chris Pratt, which Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn stated wasnt true.

We’ll have to wait for more news from Disney to see if the new Indiana Jones is a sequel featuring Harrison Ford or a reboot using another actor, but at least we know now that one is definitely being developed.
