Did James Gunn just tease Quasar, the Protector of the Universe, aka Wendell Vaughn, for Guardians of the Galaxy 3?
If James Gunn’s latest tweet is anything to go by, it could be so.
Gunn tweeted out the following pic of an old VCR where we see the brand happens to be Quasar:
James Gunn teases Quasar for Guardians of the Galaxy 3:
For some reason I’m just remembering now that as a kid my family’s VCR had wood paneling. pic.twitter.com/Qdb8oH9mfA

As I saw the tweet, admittedly I did see red flags as Wendell Vaughn was replaced in the comics at one time by the PC space alien lesbian character named Phyla-Vell, who took Quasar’s quantum-bands and name, which really ticked off the Marvel Cosmic fan base.
I was actually one of a few people behind the “Bring Back Wendell Vaughn As Quasar” campaign, which led to the development of this site, which led to the Guardians of the Galaxy comic book being successful, which led to the Guardians of the Galaxy movie getting greenlit.
We as fans petitioned Marvel Comics and event sent them the famous Quasar cake. and Marvel Comics editor Bill Rosemann took a liking to us and brought Wendell Vaughn back as Quasar in the pages of Guardians of the Galaxy and Nova.
Bring Back Wendell Vaughn as Quasar cake:
Hoping for Quasar Wendell Vaughn in Guardians of the Galaxy 3
I’m hoping James Gunn isn’t going to sell us all out and go with the fake Phyla version of Quasar.
I do know Gunn gives Richard Rider Nova fans a hard time and also that he cut Richard Rider Nova from the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie. For some odd reason, Gunn also has something against using Earth characters in space other than Star-Lord. Coupled with his use of female characters in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, I can’t help but think Gunn may send us all down the river and use Phyla. She’s not human and she’s an alien, so she fits Gunn’s bill of whatever he wants to go with he does within the Marvel Cosmic Universe.
Hopefully, I’m wrong, and since Guardians of the Galaxy 3 will feature the last iteration of the current team, maybe Gunn is bringing in more Terrans.
In the DnA comics, Wendell Vaughn Quasar was paired with Richard Rider Nova a lot, and they made a great team. Seeing it on the big screen would be pretty epic.
I suggest to James Gunn, to read Mark Gruenwald’s Quasar issues #1-25 (or even the entire run), or at the least the “Cosmos In Collision” issues, #19-25.
