James Gunn Denies Robin Rumor for The Batman Part II

James Gunn has shut down yet another rumor about Matt Reeves’ upcoming The Batman Part II, this time involving the supposed inclusion of Robin.

Gunn Calls Robin Report “Nonsense”

A DC fan account on Threads recently claimed (update: the rumor looks to have originated from Jeff Sneider):

“Robin is reportedly in the script for The Batman 2. The sequel will be as dark as the first and will take a ‘big swing,’ with Matt Reeves and Mattson Tomlin ‘really going for it.’”

Gunn was quick to respond:

“Guys please stop believing this nonsense. I think six of us have read the script. No one knows anything about The Batman 2.”

That’s in line with Gunn’s recent push to dispel false information about DCU and DC Elseworlds projects.

What We Do Know About The Batman Part II

While Gunn says the script is under tight wraps, Warner Bros. Discovery did offer a brief update in its recent shareholder letter. The studio confirmed:

The Batman II (2027) is preparing to begin shooting next spring, among several other projects in development.”

Release info

Matt Reeves returns to direct, with Robert Pattinson reprising his role as the Dark Knight. Reeves and Mattson Tomlin wrote the script. The sequel is part of DC’s Elseworlds line, separate from James Gunn’s new DCU continuity.

Worth a mention is that Gunn’s DCU Batman Brave and the Bold movie is supposed to have a Robin.

The Batman: Part II gets released in theaters on October 1, 2027.

IMDb also lists Colin Farrell back as Oz Cobblepot, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, and Andy Serkis as Alfred.
