Zack Snyder Talks Forming The Justice League; Jabs At Captain America, Hulk & Marvel

MAJOR SPOILERS FOLLOW FOR
BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN

Justice League is officially underway come April 11th when Zack Snyder starts filming in the UK.

Following the release of Batman Vs. Superman, Snyder has now turned his attention to Justice League discussing the big DC movie numerous times. This time, Zack Snyder talks with IGN mentioning why he chose the members that make up the current roster, which consists of Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Era Miller as The Flash and Ray Fisher as Cyborg.

Snyder first remarks that really early on he had the notion of Batman putting together the Justice League, and that the reason they killed off Superman in Batman vs. Superman was to make way for Batman as the leader (Snyder talks more about it here, with mention of Superman’s return). Snyder seemingly makes a dig at Captain America and the Hulk explaining that killing off Superman was a better choice than putting him on ice and throwing him into space.

“Pretty early on I had this idea that I wanted [Superman’s death] to happen. I really felt like if we were going to move forward with the Justice League, that Batman needed to put it together, and you couldn’t have this… I mean Superman is Superman,” Snyder said. “If he’s around, he’s going to be put in charge because he’s Superman. And so I really felt we need to – in a cool way – create a mechanism that could get him out of the way. And I didn’t want to [rolls eyes] freeze him on ice and shoot him into space. I thought that was boring [laughs].”

Snyder continues with mention of all the deaths in Man of Steel and Batman vs. Superman (that some fans complained about), seemingly taking another swipe at Marvel by saying, “Because I really feel like consequences are important in super hero movies. Otherwise, they are slightly irresponsible, and we’re just saying ‘blow everything up and no one gets hurt, it’s awesome,’ and I just felt like no, no that’s not cool…”

Regarding why this particular group of Justice League members was used, Snyder offers:

“I thought long and hard about who to bring in, like who the Justice League would be made up of, and to me those are the heavy hitters right now. Of course, there’s room for some more, and I absolutely had to keep some back for the next little shock of awesomeness, but those guys felt like the guys that needed to surface.”

Justice League opens November 17, 2017. Watch more from Zack Snyder in the video below.

Watch: Lights Out Trailer (Horror Movie)

Watch a trailer for WB and New Line Cinema’s new horror movie Lights Out.

Lights Out has a July 22, 2016 release date directed by David Sandberg with James Wan producing.

Synopsis:

From producer James Wan (“The Conjuring”) comes a tale of an unknown terror that lurks in the dark.

When Rebecca left home, she thought she left her childhood fears behind. Growing up, she was never really sure of what was and wasn’t real when the lights went out…and now her little brother, Martin, is experiencing the same unexplained and terrifying events that had once tested her sanity and threatened her safety. A frightening entity with a mysterious attachment to their mother, Sophie, has reemerged.

But this time, as Rebecca gets closer to unlocking the truth, there is no denying that all their lives are in danger…once the lights go out.

The film stars Teresa Palmer (“Triple 9”) as Rebecca; Gabriel Bateman (“Annabelle”) as Martin; Billy Burke (the “Twilight” franchise) as Martin’s father, Paul; Alexander DiPersia (“Forever”) as Rebecca’s boyfriend, Bret; and Maria Bello (“Prisoners”) as Sophie.

“Lights Out” marks the feature film directorial debut of David F. Sandberg, who directed the film from a screenplay by Eric Heisserer (“Final Destination 5”), based on Sandberg’s own short film. James Wan, Lawrence Grey and Heisserer produced the film, with Walter Hamada, Dave Neustadter and Richard Brener serving as executive producers.

Sandberg’s behind-the-scenes team included director of photography Marc Spicer (“Furious 7”), production designer Jennifer Spence (the “Insidious” films), editor Kirk Morri (“The Conjuring”) and costume designer Kristin M. Burke (“The Conjuring”). The music is composed by Benjamin Wallfisch.

New Line Cinema presents a Grey Matter/Atomic Monster production, “Lights Out.” Slated for release on July 22, 2016, the film will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

This film has been rated PG-13 for terror throughout, violence including disturbing images, some thematic material and brief drug content.

Tyrese Ticked Off Warner Bros. With Green Lantern Hype

Tyrese comes clean with Larry King about potentially playing Green Lantern.

The actor teased numerous times that he may have gotten the role, or at least seemed to, but now he tells Larry King he was just following up on fan art posted online.

“You know how they have fan-made kind of things online? A fan did this image of me as the Green Lantern.  A fan. And I was like, ‘Woah, that looks cool.’ And I posted it on my Instagram, and it just went crazy — over 1,500 sites. And it was just all of this buzz, and I was like I might as well run with this thing. And I did,” Tyrese said.

Tyrese continues with mention that not only did a lot of people notice, but WB did as well, and that it kind of ticked WB off a bit because it made it seem as if Tyrese landed the Green Lantern role.

“Pissed the people off, a little bit, at Warner Brothers because they thought that I had convinced the world that I had landed the role, which I didn’t. And I said, ‘If you go down my timeline, at no point did I say the role is mine,'” explained Tyrese. “But, you know, there have been other artists, actors and actresses who have put up images of them as a comic book character and ended up landing a role. So I was like, it’s worth giving it a shot.”

Tyrese does confirm he eventually met with Warner Bros. about Green Lantern, but he says it’s more or less a long shot.

“I did meet with Warner Brothers, though.  And…um…shoot me a prayer, Larry.  I would love it. I’ve taken the oath. I would love to do it,” Tyrese said.

WB is rebooting Green Lantern with their new Justice League universe. So far not much is known other than the title, Green Lantern Corps, and a 2020 release date. Rumors have been flying suggesting it’s going to be a buddy space cop movie, and that Green Lantern may not appear in the DCCU until Justice League  –  Part 2.

Zack Snyder Explains Batman Vs. Superman SPOILER Ending & Justice League

MAJOR SPOILERS follow for Batman vs. Superman. We’ll start the article – with spoilers – following this image.

The end of Batman vs. Superman saw Superman sacrifice himself while taking on Doomsday, who could basically not be beaten as any time he was attacked, he would evolve to overcome the offensive. As Wonder Woman attacked Doomsday with her sword and cut off DD’s arm, DD grew a spike in its place. Superman grabbed the Kryptonite spear that Batman had created and plunged it into Doomsday’s chest. Doomsday had a hold of Superman, and likewise, plunged his spike-arm into Superman’s heart (obviously they couldn’t snap each other’s necks like the comic because Superman just did that to Zod in Man of Steel). So both Doomsday and Superman were killed. Following that, we see a funeral scene with Bruce Wayne and Diana Prince. Bruce says they need to form a team because a threat is coming etc. We see Lois and Ma Kent by Clark’s grave etc. Then dirt rises over Clark’s coffin, which is similar to what happened in Man of Steel when Clark first took flight.

EW.com caught up with director Zack Snyder who explained his reasoning behind killing Superman, with the obvious question in most fans’ minds being: What about Superman in Justice League?

SPOILERS follow for Justice League as well.

Regarding killing Superman, Snyder says:

“I felt like we had to kill Superman in this movie in order for us to have been serious with the entire premise of the film. And that’s not to say that he clearly is gone forever.”

Another reason why Snyder wanted Superman gone is so Batman can be the one to form the Justice League:

“I wanted Bruce Wayne to build the Justice League. I felt like with Superman around, it’s a different conversation when you create the Justice League, right?  It’s like, ‘Me and Superman, we want to make a Justice League.’ [Other heroes would be] like, ‘Okay, yeah, I’ll join!’ I just feel like Bruce Wayne having to go out and find these seven samurai by himself, that’s a lot more interesting of a premise.”

“I also I felt like, without Superman, there is definitely a vulnerability to the team that they’re gonna need to figure something out, you know?  Superman does represent the powerful. He’s the Michael Jordan of heroes, he’s gonna score.”

Zack Snyder then explains a reason why the Justice League forms:

And a part of the reason they team up is to find a way to bring Superman back.

Regarding bringing back Superman in Justice League, Snyder teases something more than the sun will have to do the job:

“He comes very close to death in space and the reason why we did that is because I wanted to show — and keep the idea in the viewer’s mind — that he can come pretty close to death and the sun can revive him, or he can be revived.,” Snyder says, although after Doomsday, the Justice League is going to have to take more drastic measures of resuscitation. “I think something more is gonna need to be done.”

Snyder then drops a bomb that Superman might be different when he comes back:

“I felt like there’s a mythological journey for Superman,” Snyder says. “There’s the birth, death, and resurrection thing. And when you bring him back, who knows what he is when he comes back.”

Our speculation:

It’s possible Superman might be a bad guy when he comes back as Henry Cavill has previously hinted his Superman is going to do battle with Jason Momoa’s Aquaman. If we put what Cavill has said with what Snyder says above together, it seems the Justice League might revive Superman, but something might initially go wrong, so they are forced to fight Superman. Recall what the Ezra Miller Flash cameo told Bruce : something about how Bruce was right all along, that Lois was the key, and to find the others. Another clue that Superman might go bad in the Justice League movie is that The Flash scene resembled the Injustice: Gods Among Us video game, which features a bad Superman after Lois dies.

Justice League starts filming April 11th for a November 17, 2017 release.

“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” has a March 25, 2016 release directed by Zack Snyder starring Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jeremy Irons as Alfred, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Ray Fisher as Cyborg with Callan Mulvey, Holly Hunter as Senator Finch and Tao Okamoto as Mercy Graves.

Synopsis:

Fearing the actions of a god-like Super Hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before.

Batman Vs. Superman To Have Biggest Pre-Easter Opening Ever

Following Batman Vs. Superman‘s huge Thursday night preview, it’s now said the “Dawn of Justice” movie will score the biggest pre-Easter opening day ever, beating out last year’s Furious 7, with $82 million.

While Deadline‘s article puts a little spin on the negative reviews (see below), there is no question that the negative reviews put out by the critics are having no impact on ticket sales as moviegoers are flocking to theaters this weekend.

It’s now projected that Batman Vs. Superman will have a $170 million opener, which is $10 million more than a couple of days ago.

The weekend numbers for BVS are also set to give WB their biggest opening ever, even better than Harry Potter or any of the Christopher Nolan Batman movies. The movie is doing exceptionally well internationally, coming in at #1 as well in various foreign markets.

Regarding the negative Batman Vs. Superman reviews, Deadline is stating WB thinks it’s because of a – more or less – bandwagon effect that saw a batch of negative reviews released early on, which caused a domino effect with other critics following suit.

Currently, Batman Vs. Superman has a 30% rating amongst critics at Rotten Tomatoes, while fans have had a more positive experience with 73% liking it.

It’s also suggested that as a result of the critic and fan response, that WB and Snyder may change the Justice League movie up at bit as a “near universal complaint” for  Batman Vs. Superman is that it’s “too long, too brooding, too hackneyed.”

Ezra Miller Getting Ripped For The Flash

Ezra Miller Flash Justice League Featurette

Ezra Miller appears as The Flash in this week’s Batman Vs. Superman followed by the Justice League movie, which films in a couple of weeks, and then in the 2018 Flash standalone movie.

Many fans are on the fence regarding the casting because of the popularity of Grant Gustin, the TV version of The Flash.

However, that may change as by most accounts Ezra Miller’s appearance in Batman Vs. Superman was an impressive debut (watch the spoiler cameo here).

Now photos of Ezra Miller have hit the net revealing the actor is taking his Flash role seriously, as Miller is getting in tip-top super hero shape to play the Justice League Scarlet Speedster.

While attending the Batman Vs. Superman premiere, Miller posted on his official Instagram account that he is getting “ripped” for the role.

Zack Snyder Confirms Bryan Cranston Was Up For Lex Luthor In Batman Vs. Superman

I’m the one responsible for letting loose the news that Bryan Cranston was cast as Lex Luthor for Batman Vs. Superman.

Someone who works close to WB filled me in on the info.

Originally, I was told the big announcement was going to go down following the series finale of Breaking Bad.

However, the announcement never came.

Questioning my source, he/she said Bryan Cranston ended up turning down the role of Lex Luthor in the movie (source also filled me in that Mercy Graves would be in the movie, Wonder Woman, etc).

Eventually, Jesse Eisenberg (not Heisenberg) was cast in the role.

We also know the Batman Vs. Superman script was tweaked to accommodate Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, which obviously means the original David Goyer script featured an older Lex.

While filling EW.com about Jimmy Olsen in Batman Vs. Superman, Snyder mentions that originally Jesse Eisenberg was going to play the role of Jimmy Olsen; the article mentions at that point WB was still interviewing actors for the Lex Luthor role noting most of them were older and imposing figures “such as Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston.”

A little spin ensues as it’s mentioned WB “decided to take a chance and experiment with a younger, weirder, and more frenetic Lex.”

Actually, what probably happened when Cranston changed his mind, they decided to go in a different direction with Lex. Chris Terrio was brought on board to rewrite David Goyer’s Superman Man of Steel 2 script (with Cranston as Lex), and they came up with the “crazy” Lex idea.

Snyder said the following about Cranston:

“We talked about the usual suspects that you would imagine; any actor who has been bald, probably,” Snyder says. “Bryan Cranston would have been great, right? And by the way, he’s an amazing actor. Can you imagine how different the movie would be?”

Yes, Zack. Batman vs. Superman would have been different, indeed.

Now Zack Snyder Kills Of Major Superman Character In Batman Vs. Superman (Spoilers)

After watching Man of Steel and Dawn of Justice, anybody else think Zack Snyder isn’t a big fan of Superman?

Spoilers follow.

Fans may recall during Man of Steel many thought Zack Snyder replaced Jimmy Olsen with Jenny Olsen; however, that turned out not to be the case.

As it turns out, Jimmy Olsen actually appears in Batman vs. Superman.

No, it’s not Scoot McNairy.

You probably missed it, but Jimmy Olsen appeared early on in Batman Vs. Superman, but wasn’t specifically mentioned by name.

Jimmy Olsen was the photographer with Lois Lane in Africa that was working for the CIA, played by Michael Cassidy.

And the photographer that was shot in the head and killed.

So Zack Snyder killed off Superman’s best friend, Jimmy Olsen.

Snyder tells EW.com:

“We just did it as this little aside because we had been tracking where we thought the movies were gonna go, and we don’t have room for Jimmy Olsen in our big pantheon of characters, but we can have fun with him, right?”

Snyder does reveal that the Batman Vs. Superman R-rated director’s cut will name-drop Jimmy Olsen.

“He comes up to her and he goes, ‘Lois Lane, I’m Jimmy Olsen, photographer, obviously … You know, I’ve been assigned to you for this mission.’ But it turns out that Jimmy Olsen is a spook for the CIA.”

It’s also learned Jesse Eisenberg was initially going to play the small role of Jimmy Olsen in order to wow the audience.

“I thought, if it were Jesse Eisenberg and he got out and he goes, ‘I’m Jimmy Olsen,’ you’d be like, oh my God, we’re gonna have Jimmy Olsen in the whole movie, right?’” Snyder says. “And then if he got shot, you’d just be like, ‘What!? You can’t do that.’”

I think it’s a shame they killed off Jimmy Olsen. In doing so, now a director down the road for another Superman movie won’t be able to use him. I haven’t been too thrilled with what Snyder has done with Superman in both his movies. I’m hoping someone that gets Superman eventually comes on board.

Marvel Fixes Big Winter Soldier Spoiler In New Japanese Trailer

Spoilers follow for Captain America: Civil War.

Marvel recently released a new Japanese Captain America: Civil War trailer (watch above) which features a change to the Winter Soldier.

The earlier normal version of the trailer seemed to reveal a big spoiler with Winter Soldier minus his arm in the fight against Iron Man:

Now the new Japanese trailer has been edited to put the arm back:

We can speculate the original trailer may have simply forgotten to add the CGI to Winter Soldier’s arm, or that they are trying to hide the mistake of the spoiler reveal. Or is there something more to it, that the ripping off of Winter Soldier’s arm is too graphic for Japanese and/or some international audiences?

That said, with the two trailers revealing two seemingly different fates for the Winter Soldier, it’s now unknown to us what exactly happens.

(eagle-eyed reddit user noticed the difference)

Zack Snyder Compares Justice League To Seven Samurai

With Batman Vs. Superman now in theaters, Zack Snyder turns his attention to the Justice League movie, which starts filming April 11th in the UK.

Justice League will feature Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash,  Ray Fisher as Cyborg, and Amy Adams will be back as Lois Lane.

Snyder recently talked with Yahoo about Justice League, comparing it to the 1954 film Seven Samurai that features seven masterless Samurai coming together to defend a village of farmers.

“I’m getting ready to start ‘Justice League’ on the 11th of April, so in like two weeks we start shooting,” Synder told Yahoo Movies. “It’s an intense, awesome, and gigantic undertaking because Bruce [Wayne] is having to go out and sort of ‘Seven Samurai’ the Justice League together, which is fun.

“It’s slightly monumental,” added Snyder, “and at the same time they’re starting to grapple with this coming threat.”

Regarding that “coming threat,” it’s assumed Darkseid may be the big villain, but not before members of the Justice League apparently battle it out with Aquaman.

Justice League has a November 17, 2017 release.

Batman Vs. Superman Opens Strong With $27.7 Million Thursday Preview

It doesn’t appear as if the critics reviews are going to slow down Zack Snyder’s Batman vs. Superman as the film opened strong for its Thursday night preview.

Deadline reports Batman Vs. Superman brought in $27.7 million last night, which beats out Marvel’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron, The Avengers and Iron Man 3 as well as Warner Bros. own The Dark Knight.

Batman vs. Superman‘s Thursday night preview also gives it the best pre-Easter Thursday night preview ever, besting last year’s Furious 7.

It’s speculated the opening weekend for Batman Vs. Superman may bring in over $160 million domestically, with over $350 million total worldwide.
