Watch: Adam Driver Teases Star Wars: Episode VIII

While promoting his latest movie, Midnight Special, Adam Driver talks about Star Wars: Episode VIII.

Obviously, Driver, who plays Kylo Ren, can’t say much, but he offers in the below video (via EW) that the script is great and jokes they are still at war.

“I didn’t turn into a new person,” Driver said regarding his life after Star Wars: The Force Awakens debuted. “Nothing happened to me. But a lot of people saw it, and that was good. I guess my Christmas is kind of easier now – the toys and things for family. Kids is a big thing: I feel like before parents kept me away from their kids; now it’s like, go get a picture.”

Driver also confirmed they are presently in the middle of shooting Star Wars: Episode VIII.

“They’re still at war. It’s still Star Wars,” Driver offered. “They’re not at peace. They’re at war.”

Adam Driver also talked about working with Episode VIII director Rian Johnson compared to The Force Awakens‘ J.J. Abrams.

“Their temperaments are different,” Driver said. “I feel like there was so many moving pieces in the first one – just trying to solve it and set the vocabulary for what it was. There’s a lot of that anxiety is gone, because people have developed a language. I think it’s more of a testament to Rian coming into something very established and making it [his own]. I can’t wait to get on set, just because he’s so unassuming and intelligent and approachable. The script they’ve come up with is really great.”

Star Wars: Episode VIII has a December 16, 2017 release directed by Rian Johnson starring Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, Andy Serkis, Benicio Del Toro, Laura Dern and Kelly Marie Tran.

Kevin Smith Wasn’t A Big Fan of Batman Vs. Superman

Kevin Smith, who was actually involved in promoting Batman Vs. Superman, apparently wasn’t a big fan of the movie, particularly in regards to the story and Superman.

Smith, who will be directing an upcoming episode of The Flash, goes on to say on his podcast (via Geek Tyrant) that while the visuals of the film looked good, Superman was off (which we agree with).

“Remember before when we were talking about Flash, and that it has heart, humor, and spectacle. The movie I felt like didn’t really have a heart. It was certainly fucking humorless, there was nothing funny going on in that world whatsoever, but it had lots of spectacle. Like you can’t take that away from Snyder. Boy, he knows how to like compose a frame and how to setup a shot. Beautiful visual stylist but you need more than just the pictures, you need like characterization and these characters seemed off character, particularly Superman.”

Smith is also a big Batman fan and went on to joke about Affleck’s portrayal comparing Bruce Wayne and Batman to Donald Trump. You can listen to the podcast below.

Garman: He just wasn’t that bright.

Smith: Certainly not the world’s greatest detective! More like Bat-Trump.

Garman: He was Bat-Trump. A rich guy with a bad attitude. Who really hated immigrants.

Smith: He hates immigrants in a big bad way!

Garman: I’m gonna build a wall around Krypton, and I’m gonna make them pay for it. I’m going to build a wall around the Hall of Justice, it’s what I do. I build walls and they’re huge.”

Zack Snyder Confirms Another Batman Vs. Superman Darkseid Related Spoiler

Spoilers follow for Batman Vs. Superman.

One of the Justice League cameos in Batman Vs. Superman featured Cyborg (watch it here) with Victor Stone (played by Ray Fisher) on a slab being revived and brought back to life by some sort of object.

Now it’s revealed the object is a Mother Box.

“That’s the first glimpse of the Mother Box there,” director Zack Snyder told EW. “It was an agonizing birth. I really wanted to show Cyborg’s birth because I feel like he plays such a strong part coming up, and I really wanted to give a sense of him.  I really want [the audience] to know how far he’s come.”

In DC Comics lore, a mother box is a sentient computer that gives its user all sorts of vast powers ranging from teleportation, telekinesis, healing, energy manipulation and more. The Mother Box has been compared to a computer link to the gods and was created by the Apokoliptian scientist Himon the Artificer. In the New 52 comics, Victor Stone is injured by the energy of a Mother Box, with his father Silas using alien tech to save his son, which creates Cyborg.

The Mother Box would be at least the fourth Darkseid Easter Egg in Batman Vs. Superman as the Batman Nightmare scene featured the parademons and Darkseid omega symbol, and it’s thought the new Batman Vs. Superman deleted scene features Darkseid’s general, Steppenwolf.

The Batman Vs. Superman Cyborg cameo scene also features Cyborg’s father, Dr. Silas Stone, a scientist at STAR Labs, played by actor Joe Morton.

Marvel’s Peter David Reviews Batman Vs. Superman

Marvel Comics writer Peter David reviews Batman Vs. Superman on his blog.

You can head on over to read there to read the entire review. Here are a few highlights:

• Ben Affleck, defying the haters, is brilliant as Bruce Wayne and formidable as Batman.

• And Gal Godot…my God, what a great Wonder Woman.

• As for Henry Cavill…well, there’s the problem.

• The plot doesn’t serve him, or anyone, especially well.

• Man, I am so sick of trailers ruining films. In this instance, every major story beat is in the trailers.

• And that’s the culmination of the problem: I didn’t care.

• Ultimately what it comes down to is that Marvel has set the tone and style for superhero films.

Peter David is currently writing Spider-Man 2099 and Dark Tower for Marvel and also wrote the Marvel Future Fight mobile game.

“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” has a March 25, 2016 release directed by Zack Snyder starring Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jeremy Irons as Alfred, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Ray Fisher as Cyborg with Callan Mulvey, Holly Hunter as Senator Finch and Tao Okamoto as Mercy Graves.

X-Men Rumored To Marvel & Avengers Again; Singer Leaving Franchise?

Once again it’s being rumored that the X-Men will be coming back to Marvel.

Back last July saw a rumor hit that Fox and Marvel are planning an Avengers and X-Men move for 2020.

Now it’s being said that following X-Men: Apocalypse, the X-Men will be rebooted within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, though Fox will still retain the rights.

The latest info comes from Comic Planet Culture For Life that also states X-Men: Apocalypse will be Bryan Singer’s last X-Men movie.

It’s also again said an announcement will be forthcoming; the first rumor stated an announcement about the X-Men and Marvel Avengers movie would be made at this year’s Comic-Con, which follows the May premiere of X-Men: Apocalypse. Whether the announcement comes this year (if it happens) remains to be seen, but Disney could always announce the Avengers and X-Men event in 2017 at their D23 Expo which just moved to the month of July (the month Comic-Con is normally held).

Regarding any evidence that Fox is teaming with Marvel for Avengers and X-Men, back about two years ago Kevin Feige said “never say never” regarding Marvel teaming up with any of the other studios. Of course, now we know Marvel is working together with Sony on Spider-Man.

Notable X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner is also close to Marvel’s Kevin Feige, as the two worked together, and previously offered she would “love it” if the characters worked together with an enthusiastic “yeah, absolutely,” when questioned about a potential X-Men and Marvel crossover.

Possible further evidence may lie with the recent smash hit Deadpool movie, which features Marvel’s Avengers hellicarrier in the climactic scene. The Hellicarrier in Deadpool was confirmed by the concept artist: “[I] was asked to redesign the helicarrier so it looked as different as possible from the one in The Avengers. And it had to look like it had been taken apart in some places,” Emmanuel Shiu said.

It’s also suggested the previous rift between Marvel Comics and Fox may be over as Marvel Comics is now producing various X-Men related comic books. Marvel Comics previously killed off various X-Men characters including Wolverine and blew up the cast of the Fantastic Four reboot in one of their books. There is also the fact Marvel and Fox are working together on the FX X-Men TV series Legion and Hellfire.

Regarding Fantastic Four, no rumors have suggested the property may be going back to Marvel, but if the X-Men rumors pan out, more than likely Kevin Feige and Marvel will be coming in to save the day for FF as well.

Captain America: Civil War: Don Cheadle Addresses Reactions To War Machine’s Possible Death

The question may not be which side to choose in Captain America: Civil War, but who will make it out alive?

So far the bets are against the survival of War Machine due to the footage in the trailers, which many think will be the catalyst that causes Tony Stark to side against Team Cap.

Don Cheadle happens to be on Twitter and has been getting a lot of feedback regarding the possibility and tells the NY Daily News the following about the reaction to War Machine’s potential demise:

“I’m on Twitter, so I’ve gotten a few people going, ‘Rhodey better not be dead, son. I’m going to be so mad.’ Or ‘I’m done with this thing if Rhodey’s dead,’ “

“But that’s cool, I like that people get so upset about it,” he adds. “I like that in a Marvel movie people are able to evoke such emotion.”

Cheadle wouldn’t directly comment on what may or may not happen with War Machine in Captain America: Civil War, but did admit and tease: “It does look bad for Rhodey.”

Don Cheadle also stars in the Miles Davis biopic, Miles Ahead, which is out April 1st.

“Captain America: Civil War” has  a May 6, 2016 release date directed by Anthony and Joe Russo starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo, Paul Bettany, Don Cheadle, Emily VanCamp, William Hurt, Martin Freeman and Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther.

Synopsis:

D23 Expo 2017 Takes On Comic-Con’s With July Date

Disney has announced that the 2017 D23 Expo will move to the month of July, which is also the month held by the San Diego Comic-Con.

The 2017 D23 Expo wil take place the weekend of July 14–16. Previous years saw the Disney 23 Expo take place in August.

Comic-Con has yet to announce a date for 2017, but this year sees Comic-Con international held July 21-24; last year it was held July 9-12.

Disney announced the following regarding the D23 Expo (held every two years) which mentions Star Wars and Marvel.

Disney kept Marvel Studios out of last year’s Comic-Con, obviously to promote the material at their D23, which saw announcements for Tom Holland as the new Spider-Man, Captain America: Civil War and Doctor Strange panels, Pirates of the Caribbean, Star Wars and more. Disney has Star Wars: Episode VIII and Thor 3 out later that year in 2017, so it’s possible we could get some new footage from those movies, with the potential for teases from the 2018 Black Panther movie and Avengers: Infinity War as well.

2017 D23 Expo Info:

All the magic and excitement of the past, present, and future of Disney entertainment will come together once again D23 presents D23 Expo 2017 at the Anaheim Convention Center the weekend of July 14–16. Each of Disney’s magical worlds will unite under one roof to celebrate what’s new and what’s on the horizon from theme parks, television, music, gaming, and films, including Pixar, Star Wars, and Marvel. Advance tickets for D23 Expo 2017 will go on sale at D23Expo.com beginning July 14, 2016.

D23 Expo launched in 2009, and since then the biennial event has attracted tens of thousands of Disney fans from across the country and around the world.

Highlights planned for the fifth D23 Expo include the Disney Legends Ceremony, which honors the talented men and women who have made significant contributions to the Disney legacy; an all-new exhibit curated by the Walt Disney Archives; D23 Expo’s costume contest, Mousequerade, showcasing the most creative designs by fans; the D23 Expo Emporium, where Disney fans can buy, sell, and trade Disney collectibles, memorabilia, merchandise, and more; and the D23 Expo Design Challenge. (Details on the Design Challenge and Mousequerade are coming soon.)

The 2017 Expo will feature a massive show floor full of immersive experiences and special opportunities to see what’s next for Disney around the world—and guests may run into their favorite Disney stars, characters, Imagineers, animators, and filmmakers. StagePass, the popular ticket distribution system that allows attendees to obtain guaranteed seats for some of Expo’s most popular presentations, and StorePass, which allows priority entry to select shopping venues at the event, will once again enhance the guest experience. Hall D23, the popular presentation and performance venue featuring more than 7,000 seats, will return, as will Stage 23, Stage 28, and Center Stage.

The fifth event follows the success of D23 Expo 2015, where guests were treated to appearances by such celebrities as Johnny Depp, Harrison Ford, Ellen DeGeneres, Chris Evans, Ginnifer Goodwin, and Dwayne Johnson and watched performances by Ne-Yo, Sabrina Carpenter, the cast of Teen Beach 2, and stars of Disney’s shows on Broadway. Fans previewed costumes from Star Wars: The Force Awakens and were the first to hear about the new Star Wars-themed lands coming to Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts. They also enjoyed a look back at Disney’s rich history through extraordinary panels, presentations, and exhibits and discovered the newest entertainment, technology, and products coming from Disney.

D23 Members will receive special pricing on both one- and three-day tickets to the event, which is open to the general public. D23 Gold and Charter Members will also be entitled to special benefits at the 2017 Expo. Batman Vs. Superman Suffers Worst Drop Off Of Any Super Hero Movie

Following Batman Vs. Superman‘s record opening (which was slightly less than originally estimated), it’s now learned the Zack Snyder-directed follow up to Man of Steel has suffered the worse drop off of any super hero movie.

Forbes crunched the numbers (see chart below) and came up with Batman Vs. Superman dropping 55% from Friday’s $82 million to Sunday’s $37 million gross. That’s even more than Fantastic Four. Ouch.

While the obvious reason would seem to be the Easter Sunday holiday, as noted, Batman Vs. Superman also suffered the second worst Friday-to-Saturday drop off with a decline of 38%, second to Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises 40% Friday-to-Saturday drop.

The numbers for this coming weekend should say a lot: whether or not Batman Vs. Superman has any staying power, or similar to Man of Steel which came out roaring out of the box office as well, will Dawn of Justice peter out? Initially, there was talk of a Man of Steel sequel following its own big opening, but as the box office draw saw tumbleweeds, Batman and the Justice League were added to the next movie (this one).

People have been saying the critics reviews don’t matter, while that may be true, what matters is a good quality movie. Again similar to Man of Steel, Batman Vs. Superman seems to be received as a mixed bag: some love various parts (mainly Batman and Wonder Woman); some hate various parts (Lex Luthor, Doomsday, Superman).

It’s also been said WB needs to get at least $900 million out of Batman Vs. Superman to break even, so what happens if they don’t? Justice League starts filming in a couple of weeks with Zack Snyder back yet again. It seemed as if David Goyer took the fall for Man of Steel not hitting a billion, who this time?

Batman Vs. Superman: Sorry Eisenberg Haters, Lex Sr. Is Dead

Forget Eisenberg, we want Heisenberg?

Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor has been met with lukewarm reception in Batman Vs. Superman (well actually, lukewarm might be charitable).

Eisenberg’s portrayal of the Superman nemsis came off as a bit over the top, a bit too much like his Social Network performance of Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg on Prozac, and just downright annoying.

To be honest, this is just another aspect of the Superman mythos I feel Zack Snyder is disconnected with.

I wasn’t happy with the Man of Steel Pa Kent death scene that saw Clark let his father die. Superman would have never done that, and before you argue that he wasn’t Superman, yet — he’s always been Superman! It’s not his powers that make him super, but his core values. Regarding Jonathan’s argument that the world wasn’t ready for Superman, later in the movie Zod forced Superman to come out, so that really didn’t matter (lol), which I suppose was the point, but Pa Kent “sacrificing” himself? No.

I also wasn’t happy with the African scene in Batman Vs. Superman when Lois was held hostage by the terrorist. That had to be the most ridiculous scene: Superman plows the guy through a wall? Really, Zack? That wasn’t cool, dude. You could have used Superman’s heat vision or super speed. Instead, we get Superman the defensive end which was akin to J.J. Watt taking out a fourth grader. Hello.

Snyder also killed not two but FOUR Superman characters (five if you count Clark Kent) in Dawn of Justice with Mercy Graves, who actually made her debut in the Superman animated series as Lex Luthor’s Amazonian bodyguard (Snyder killed her off in the court room explosion). Snyder revealed in an interview the photographer shot in the head working for the CIA was Jimmy Olsen. Question for Zack: Why bother even using these Superman characters just to kill them off? Now down the road if they ever make another Superman movie, they can’t be used. While Mercy Graves might be more minor of a character, Jimmy Olsen is a HUGE part of Superman. Oh, I get it. Jimmy Olsen appears in Supergirl, right? Of course the two other characters killed were Superman himself and Doomsday.

Another big complaint I had about Batman Vs. Superman was we didn’t get a big Superman moment. It was a huge let down for me when Clark was going to save the Mexicans that we didn’t get to see him flying there and making the save. Ditto for the Russian rocket. All we got were after-the-fact scenes just to show us Superman could be super. More than likely the short scenes were a result of having to shoehorn in Wonder Woman and the Justice League, which actually I didn’t mind and was quite happy with to be honest, but some big super moment saving the day (humans) was definitely needed (We also didn’t get a big Batman reveal: everything was just “there.”)

Getting back to Eisenberg’s Luthor, I’m actually on the fence regarding his portrayal, which I guess you could say isn’t a good thing as I’m not sold on it. What I really didn’t like about it was how last we saw Lex: some bumbling drooling crazy idiot. This harkens back to Mercy and Jimmy Olsen: So how are they going to use Lex in another Superman movie? Eisenberg actually made a ridiculous comment that he could see his Lex going good. Huh? Lol. It’s almost like Snyder ruined Lex Luthor, too. What? Somehow he is going to get out of prison? He’s gotta be in for a life term, right? Or did nobody die? And then what? …

That said (rant over), on more than one occassion, I’ve heard from friends where they think WB has an out regarding Eisenberg’s Lex in that they can bring Lex Sr. into follow up movies. Something along the lines of Vince McMahon coming back from an abscence when Stephanie or Shane-O-Mac (Wrestlemania plug!) screws up the business. The problem is that Lex Sr. is dead, and I think Jr. may have killed him.

The info comes from a promo interview done with Fortune magazine for Batman Vs. Superman. The pretend interview is done with Lex Jr. where it’s mentioned Lex Sr. died in 2000 unexpectedly:

Referring to Alexander Luthor Sr. as a “good businessman” is not unlike calling Napoleon Bonaparte a “competent conqueror.” The East German émigré, who passed away unexpectedly in 2000, arrived on our shores with nothing, but managed to carve out an empire of oil and machinery. By all accounts, he accomplished this feat through sheer grit and ferocity. His enemies, of which there are many, would also probably add “viciousness.”

My first impression from “passed away unexpectedly” was that Jr. offed his father to take over for himself. Of course, I could be wrong and Lex Sr. could also be around. WB could simply ignore the article, as it’s not really mentioned in the movie. Another way out could be that Lex Sr. took a sabbatical of some sort, and returned after 16 years.

Still another possibility is that they will simply keep using Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, or similar to the fate of Mercy Graves and Jimmy Olsen — just not use Lex anymore at all.

Hey, we always got Batman. Right, Zack?

Kingsman 2 Title, Details & Concept Art Released

The sequel to the 2014 sleeper hit Kingsman: The Secret Service movie now has an official title with concept art released.

The latest issue of Empire Magazine has a featured article with director Matthew Vaughn, which lets it be known the title is: Kingsman: The Golden Circle.

No specifics in regards to what “The Golden Circle” may be were released, but perhaps as The Kingsman is a secret society, it’s possible The Golden Circle could be some sort of upper member echelon.

The concept art features Poppyland, which is the lair of the villain, played by Julianne Moore.

The second piece of concept art features the headquarters of the Kingsman’s American counterparts, The Statesman.

The third is of the Kingsman’s own headquarters destroyed.

The fourth reveals the Kingsman cab can go underwater.

Matthew Vaughn revealed Kingsman: The Golden Circle will feature scenes including a skiing sequence, a barroom brawl, robot dogs, a one-armed henchmen, and he says the characters will be attacked by something Vaughn describes as “a massive f—ing frankfurter.”

Vaughn also adds:

I didn’t know if I wanted to direct this or not. I was worried about the villain. Spy films are only as good as their villains. Then one morning I woke up with the whole storyline in place, and a new villain plot.

You try not to read what people want, but they do want another church sequence. I have no reason for another massacre to happen. But I have other sequences you’ve never seen before.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle has a June 10, 2017 release also starring Taron Egerton as Eggsy, Halle Berry as a member of The Statesman (rumored leader) and Mark Strong as Merlin.

Batman Vs. Superman: WB Says A Disconnect Exists Between Critics and Fans

Zack Snyder’s Batman Vs. Superman has bucked the trend of a movie with negative reviews over at Rotten Tomatoes never achieving more than a $150 million opener as the film has netted over $170 million domestically.

Warner Bros. previously explained the reason in part they felt there were so many negative reviews was a result of a bandwagon effect that saw a batch of early negative reviews released, which caused other critics to follow suit.

It’s even been said Warner Bros. is going to rethink how they present Suicide Squad to the critics, as with Batman Vs. Superman only an initial smaller batch of critics first saw the movie instead of most of them at the same time, which is another reason they think led to the negative reviews.

Now WB’s domestic chief of distribution weighs in on the negative reviews as THR reports Jeff Goldstein feels the critics are not in tune with the movie as much as the fans are with the film.

“There is no question this is an extraordinary achievement,” Goldstein said of Batman Vs. Superman‘s record opening. “Clearly, audiences have embraced it and we are already seeing repeat business. It’s just fun. Often, there’s a disconnect between critics and audiences.”

Currently, Batman Vs. Superman is at 29% amongst critics at Rotten Tomatoes, with 73% of audiences finding the movie favorable.

“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” is directed by Zack Snyder starring Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jeremy Irons as Alfred, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Ray Fisher as Cyborg with Callan Mulvey, Holly Hunter as Senator Finch and Tao Okamoto as Mercy Graves.

Batman Vs. Superman Speculated To Hit A Billion; Breaks Opening Records

Update: The final numbers have come in and are a tad bit less than anticipated: Batman Vs. Superman had a $166.1 million domestic opening with a worldwide total of $420.1 million. The only record below that it changes is that BVS doesn’t beat Harry Potter.

Zack Snyder’s Batman vs. Superman dominates at the box office this weekend breaking all kinds of records for Warner Bros. with a worldwide gross of $424.1 million.

Batman Vs. Superman has now set a new U.S. record for best March opening, best Spring opening and best Easter opening, and sets records for WB’s best U.S opening and best DC Comics movie opening with $170.1 million. The film also scored the best super hero movie opening ever.

Stats:

Batman Vs. Superman tops the opening March record previously held by The Hunger Games ($152.5 million).

Batman Vs. Superman tops WB’s domestic opening record previously held by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 ($169.1 million).

Batman Vs. Superman tops Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises record opening of $160.8 million, which was the previous best for any DC movie.

Batman vs. Superman topped last year’s Furious 7 Easter record opening of $147.1 million.

Batman Vs. Superman also stuck it to the critics over at Rotten Tomatoes (currently at 29%) as Zack Snyder’s “Dawn of Justice” managed to outperform the now defunct fact that no film with a rating lower than 63% on the site had ever opened over $150 million.

Batman Vs. Superman topped The Avengers $392.5 million opening for super hero films.

Batman Vs. Superman also scored the fifth best opening internationally bringing in $254 million, and the worldwide gross gives it the fourth best opening ever overall. The movie did well enough in China ($57 million), giving WB its best opening ever in the land of the rising sun. The international opening was also the best ever for any Zack Snyder, Ben Affleck or Henry Cavill film.

It’s now specualted Batman Vs. Superman will cross the billion dollar mark.

WB released the following statement:

“Anticipation has been building with movie fans everywhere for ‘Batman v Superman’ and the buzz has been nothing short of amazing,” said Warner Bros. President of Worldwide Marketing and Distribution. “This tremendous result at the box office is a tribute to the cinematic world that Zack Snyder has created to bring these two iconic heroes together, and it’s so gratifying that audiences everywhere are enjoying it.”

James Wan Talks Aquaman, Sea Monsters, Zack Snyder & Fun

The director of the upcoming Aquaman movie, James Wan, is known more for doing horror movies as Wan has directed and produced Saw, The Conjuring, and Insidious. Even though Aquaman is a super hero, it seems as if Wan’s horror expertise will be helping him out on the film as he tells Slash Film he is looking forward to the sea monsters:

“I think, like most people, we are familiar with Aquaman,” Wan said. “We grew up reading or watching this character on the peripheral. I was never so in depth with Aquaman as, let’s say, I was with X-Men. I grew up loving X-Men, Spider-Man and Batman. Those are obviously the key big ones, but there’s always something kind of cool about Aquaman still, the idea of creating a huge world that is on our planet. That’s the thing about Aquaman that’s cool is he’s not an alien, right? He’s from our planet and he’s from a society that we’re not privy to in the context of the story. Isn’t it crazy to think that we’ve explored space more than we have explored the depths of our ocean? That just fires up my imagination about potential sea monsters and cool creatures, that kind of stuff.”

Batman Vs. Superman and Justice League‘s Zack Snyder is on board Aquaman as executive producer, with Wan letting it be known Snyder is laying the ground work in those films for his Aquaman movie (you can watch the Jason Momoa spoiler Batman Vs. Superman cameo here). Via Cinemablend:

Well, I think the story that I would like to tell is still at the end of the day my story. And that’s what’s cool with Zack, is that he’s actually very respectful of that. He’s actually helping me out in some ways with certain things that he’s doing with his [films] so that I can have better groundwork with the standalone Aquaman story.

While the DCCU, at least to date, seems to be a lot more serious than the Marvel movies, Wan does note he still wants his Aquaman to come off as being fun. Via IGN:

The kind of filmmaker that I am…even my darker horror films generally are still very fun and I think that’s important for me and the kind of films I make. Aquaman is a character that a lot of people have made fun of over the years and I just think it’s fun to actually show a really different, cool, badass side to this character, but at the same time, let’s not forget to have fun with it.

Aquaman has a July 27, 2018 release starring Jason Momoa and Amber Heard as Mera.

Christopher Nolan Was Against Batman Vs. Superman Spoiler Ending

Not only did Christopher Nolan argue against the controversial ending to Man of Steel, but Nolan also argued against the Batman Vs. Superman ending.

Warning: Major Batman Vs. Superman SPOILERS follow

The end of Batman Vs. Superman saw Superman kill Doomsday, but DD also killed Superman (more on that here, with Zack Snyder commenting on the return of Superman in Justice League).

The Collider caught up with Zack Snyder and asked when and where did that decision come about, and what did WB think about the decision to kill Superman.

It was pretty early, and [Christopher] Nolan and I had long conversation about it, a really great, sort of philosophical conversation about it. He was really cool because he played an amazing devil’s advocate about why not to do it, and then in the end was like, ‘No you’re right, it’s better to do it.’”

Zack Snyder continues with mention of an alternate ending to Batman Vs. Superman that didn't see Superman die, but yet Snyder didn't specifically explain what it was, instead giving a different example (which resembles Captain America and Hulk).

We had a version that we talked about where [Superman] just—this isn’t it, but where he got frozen and shot into space or something, so he’s kinda gone. Because one of the big things I wanted to make sure of was that as we went into Justice League, Bruce Wayne was the one who was gathering the Justice League. I thought it was really important to have Bruce Wayne be the samurai who goes and finds the other samurai, that to me was important. And with Superman around it’s kinda hard, because Superman’s Superman so it’s kinda hard for Bruce to be like, ‘Yeah I wanna put a Justice League together’. It’s like, ‘Okay, but maybe Superman should be doing that. You’re just a guy. You’re a cool guy, don’t get me wrong, but you’re just a guy.’

Snyder also says another reason he wanted Superman to die was so it would be more relatable to humanity.

“I thought for the evolution of Superman’s character, there’s a crucible that he has to go through to really embrace his humanity or find what is the ultimate thing about being human? The ultimate thing you face is your mortality, and that’s a thing that I think is really cool about this.”

Regarding Warner Bros. reaction to the death of Superman:

“The studio was like, ‘What?’ And I’m like, ‘Yeah but, how about I called the movie Dawn of Justice?’, and they’re like ‘Okay, okay, I like what you’re doing, I see what you’re doing.’”

Snyder then talks about bringing Superman back:

“I’m gonna say this: the second you do the first part of it, the death and resurrection are the same thing in a weird way. You have to know. The reason I wanted to do it the way we did it is because I don’t want the audience completely off the hook with it. They still have to go like, ‘What the fuck? Are you kidding me?’. There’s a way to signal towards a more definitive resurrection concept, but I didn’t wanna do that because I want that to be real for them when they see it, I want the experience to be real and then the sort of need to be real later on. Suffice it to say there is a plan, but that’s gonna be—you need to wait and see.”
