Tom Holland Fought For Spider-Man Says Jon Bernthal; Talks Marvel Auditions

Jon Bernthal and Tom Holland worked together to nail their Marvel auditions of Punisher and Spider-Man, respectively.

Bernthal went on to star in Season 2 of Daredevil (with a Punisher Netflix series rumored), and of course Tom Holland will first appear as Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War followed by the 2017 standalone Spidey movie.

While speaking with Complex.com, Jon Bernthal offered an inside look at their audition process offering Tom Holland really fought to play the role of Spider-Man and more:

I worked with Tom intensely in Ireland on the movie that we did; a group of us were all living in a remote part of Western Ireland, eating every meal together, on set all day with each other. And I got to tell you, in all my years in Hollywood, I’m probably more impressed with Tom Holland than anyone else I’ve ever met. For a guy his age, he’s a force of nature. I saw him go through the process of trying to win that role. He fought for it. He just went out and got it. That’s not an easy feat.

A couple of weeks ago also saw Bernthal offer the following to the NY Daily News:

“We were making tapes from Ireland in the process of getting him cast in Spider-Manand then he and I made a tape for The Punisher. During this independent movie that we did in Ireland we were constantly making tapes for Marvel – just acting together. These tapes definitely do exist, you can call Marvel and ask for it, but that’s like breaking into Fort Knox.”

“I called the guys at Marvel when they were casting (Spider-Man) and I heard he was in the final handful of guys and said, ‘Look for what it’s worth you’re not going to meet a harder working more appreciative kind of guy. I was so blown away by his sort of attitude and work ethic and how good he was.’ But then I said to Tom, ‘I’ve told them that, so don’t prove me wrong.'”

Had an amazing time hanging with this guy. Much love brother. #pilgrimage #brothers.

Batman Vs. Superman Scores Record UK Opening For A Comic Book Movie

Not only is Batman Vs. Superman kicking butt stateside, but it’s learned the “Dawn of Justice” is clobbering competition across the pond.

Batman Vs. Superman now has the biggest ever opening three-day weekend for a comic book movie at UK cinemas.

The UK’s Guardian has the numbers (which I’ve exchanged to U.S. dollars):

Batman Vs. Superman opened to $21 million for its three-day weekend; with Easter Monday added in, the film opened to a four-day total of $25.7 million.

The numbers pass Man of Steel and Nolan’s Batman movies.

Regarding the Marvel movies, it’s noted ignoring the Thursday night preview, Batman Vs. Superman performed better than The Avengers and Age Of Ultron (when preview days are added in, it’s a difference of 4 million dollars or so).

The article does note if the negative critic reviews have any effect on ticket sales, that Batman Vs. Superman in the UK can expect a “relatively rapid burnout”; however to date, the reviews seem to be having no effect as Batman Vs. Superman recently took the top Monday and Tuesday gross for March in the U.S. and has passed $500 million worldwide in five days.

“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” is directed by Zack Snyder starring Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jeremy Irons as Alfred, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Ray Fisher as Cyborg with Callan Mulvey, Holly Hunter as Senator Finch and Tao Okamoto as Mercy Graves.

Synopsis:

Fearing the actions of a god-like Super Hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before.

LexCorp Fate Revealed Following Batman Vs. Superman

Batman Vs. Superman Lex Luthor / Darkseid General Deleted Scene

Spoilers follow for Batman  Vs. Superman.

Not only did Zack Snyder release a deleted scene from Batman Vs. Superman, which helped explain what Lex Luthor was babbling about at the end of the movie to Batman (watch above), but now we learn what becomes of LexCorp following the movie.

During promotion of Batman Vs. Superman, WB launched a LexCorp viral campaign with web sites, video, NYCC promotion and social media networks. Now LexCorp has offered an update.

Spoiler Recap: After the heroes defeated Doomsday, a scene revealed that Lex Luthor has been put in prison (interesting if it was Arkham) and that while in prison, his head was shaved (is he up for he electric chair?). See images below.

Now as a result of Lex’s actions and imprisonment in Batman Vs. Superman, the LexCorp Industries Instagram account announces LexCorp is suspending their operations:

Due to unfortunate circumstances, LexCorp Industries will be temporarily suspending it’s global operations. When interviewed about his actions against a fallen alien, Lex Luthor responded with; “Ding, ding, ding, ding. Are we entering the second round?” We do not understand Mr. Luthor’s actions and LexCorp does not take responsibility for his actions. Thank you for being patient.

It would be intersting if they were actually paving the way for the return of Lex Sr., but a previous LexCorp promo did say he died. Maybe Lex Sr. simply disappeared?

Check out an animated GIF leaked from Batman Vs. Superman of the Wonder Woman vs. Doomsday fight featuring Gal Gadot smiling as she takes on the Superman villain.

Regarding the Wonder Woman smile, Gal Gadot previously offered while discussing the Doomsday fight:

I did that. I remember after we did that take, Zack came to me and he said, “Did you just have a smirk?” I said “Yeah.” And he asked, “Why? I think I like it, but why?” Well if he’s gonna mess with her, then she’s gonna mess with him. And she knows she’s gonna win. At the end of the day Wonder Woman is a peace seeker. But when fight arrives, she can fight. She’s a warrior and she enjoys the adrenaline of the fight.

Synopsis:

Directed by Jon Favreau (“Chef,” “Iron Man,” “Elf”), based on Rudyard Kipling’s timeless stories and inspired by Disney’s classic animated film, “The Jungle Book” is an all-new live-action epic adventure about Mowgli (newcomer Neel Sethi), a man-cub who’s been raised by a family of wolves. But Mowgli finds he is no longer welcome in the jungle when fearsome tiger Shere Khan (voice of Idris Elba), who bears the scars of Man, promises to eliminate what he sees as a threat. Urged to abandon the only home he’s ever known, Mowgli embarks on a captivating journey of self-discovery, guided by panther-turned-stern mentor Bagheera (voice of Ben Kingsley), and the free-spirited bear Baloo (voice of Bill Murray). Along the way, Mowgli encounters jungle creatures who don’t exactly have his best interests at heart, including Kaa (voice of Scarlett Johannsson), a python whose seductive voice and gaze hypnotizes the man-cub, and the smooth-talking King Louie (voice of Christopher Walken), who tries to coerce Mowgli into giving up the secret to the elusive and deadly red flower: fire. The all-star cast also includes Lupita Nyong’o as the voice of the fiercely protective mother wolf Raksha, and Giancarlo Esposito as the voice of wolf pack’s alpha male Akela. “The Jungle Book” seamlessly blends live-action with photorealistic CGI animals and environments, using up-to-the-minute technology and storytelling techniques to immerse audiences in an enchanting and lush world. The wild adventure swings into theaters in 3D on April 15, 2016.

Batman Vs. Superman Getting Repeat Business: WB Exec Comments

Though Batman Vs. Superman sits at a dismal 29% at Rotten Tomatoes (I’ve seen it there as low as 28%), it continues to buck the trend of lower-rated movies not performing very well at the box office.

Just today saw word that Batman Vs. Superman has netted over half a billion dollars — in five days.

Now it’s learned Batman Vs. Superman is performing even better than WB had expected, and it’s also seeing repeat business.

Fortune has an article offering forth various explanations for the success of Batman Vs. Superman where comments are made from Jeff Goldstein, WB’s executive vice president of theatrical distribution.

Performed Higher Than Expected

“That’s about $100 million more than we thought we’d ever get,” admitted Goldstein. “I can’t believe we hit a number that large.”

Goldstein also commented on the negative reviews, but who really cares what the critics have to say anyway, right?

“Some critics were unduly harsh,” said Goldstein. “But there’s no question the audiences felt differently. They made up their mind and voted with their feet. So there is a disconnect between what the audiences felt and the critics wrote.”

Goldstein also admits there was a pressure with launching the Justice League movie universe, but that they do believe in all the properties, which includes movies for Wonder Woman, The Flash, Cyborg and Green Lantern.

“Going into this, we had such high expectations. We really believe in the property. And not just in Batman and Superman but the whole story arc of the DC Universe,” said Goldstein. “Did I feel the pressure of multiple movies? Of course! Here we are launching this movie and it’s the start of a whole story arc for a bunch of movies. And you go, ‘Wow, that’s a pretty bold move to do that.’”

Repeat Business

Regarding repeat business for Batman Vs. Superman, Fandango has the numbers offering it’s pretty high and better than most movies (Star Wars: The Force Awakens was around 42%).

“Fandango is seeing 30% more repeat business for Batman v Superman than the company sees for a typical blockbuster,” said Fandango’s vice president of communications Dana Henry Benson, “and sales for the movie continue to be strong today.”

Goldstein also offered that 5-10% of the opening weekend gross was a result of fans going to see Batman Vs. Superman numerous times.

“You can’t gross this kind of business without people coming back,” Goldstein said. “The math isn’t there.”

My Thoughts

I’m actually going to see Batman Vs. Superman myself for a second time tomorrow. I’ll admit, the movie is far from perfect, and I wish they did Superman right, but I was pretty happy with Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman and the Justice League cameos. I also want to see what a second viewing does regarding Eisenberg for me, whose Lex Luthor performance seems to be the most controversial part of the entire movie. Plus, Zack Snyder let loose new details following the release of movie (I’ll talk about those spoilers below). I also think, in part, why Batman Vs. Superman is seeing repeat business is because of all the online chatter. Lots of fans have been arguing back and forth, the buzz is definitely there, and I’m hearing people are not only going to see the Dawn of Justice for a second, but even a third time and more.

“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” is now in theaters.

Spoilers

With my first viewing of Batman Vs. Superman, I didn’t know that:

The photographer was Jimmy Olsen

Cyborg was created with a Mother Box

Lex saw one of Darkseid’s generals

Patrick Wilson voiced the president

I also want to watch the Superman vs. Batman fight again (I didn’t first realize Batman used lead-based gas grendades, etc.)

And honestly, I want to watch Gal Gadot in her Wonder Woman costume again (just being honest).

That’s all she wrote for notable composer Hans Zimmer and super hero movies.

Following a collaboration with Junkie XL on Batman Vs. Superman, Hans Zimmer tells the BBC he is retiring from doing any more comic book movies.

Then I did this one.” he said. “How am I supposed to say it? I have officially retired from the super hero business. This one was very hard for me to do, to try to find new language.”

Boot Zack Snyder From Justice League Petition Launches

Justice League begins filming in less than two weeks. Will it be without Zack Snyder?

That’s currently what almost 5000 fans are hoping for, as following Batman Vs. Superman, a petition has been launched on Change.org requesting Snyder be removed from Justice League.

The petition actually brings up a good point, which is not to have a movie that divides the fan base so much. Love it or hate it – Man of Steel or Batman Vs. Superman – it’s never a good thing when audiences are split, right?

That said, more than likely the petition will have little effect whether Zack Snyder continues on with the DC movie universe, but what obviously does is the money. This coming weekend should say a lot regards to the staying power of Batman Vs. Superman. As we saw with Man of Steel, the movie started off strong but ended with a whimper, which led to no Man of Steel sequel and Batman and the Justice League being added to the next movie. So what happens if Batman Vs. Superman peters out?

From the petition:

Zack Snyder is not the person to bring the Justice League to the big screen. He’s had two chances now to adapt DC characters and has produced middling results.

Even if you loved Man of Steel and BvS. There has to come a time when WB and DC want someone at the helm that can create something that WON’T divide people in such a way.

The building blocks are there for a great different set of superhero movies. Good actors and actresses and even directors. Zack Snyder is just not the guy that should be in charge of the biggest and most important films in the franchise. Especially with his track record now.

“Justice League” has a November 17, 2017 release starring Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gaot as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash and Ray Fisher as Cyborg.

Jennifer Lawrence Wants To Come Back For More X-Men

Back about a year ago, Jennifer Lawrence confirmed X-Men: Apocalypse would be her last X-Men movie.

“It is my last one, actually” Lawrence confirmed to MTV. “Yes.”

Now it seems Jennifer Lawrence has changed her tune as she tells Empire Magazine she wants to return for more X-Men.

“I am dying to come back,” she said while on the set of X-Men: Apocalypse. “I love these movies, I love being in them. I love ensemble movies because it’s not on anyone’s shoulders.”

In addition to Jennifer Lawrence, it’s said Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy and Nicholas Hoult are said to be finishing up with the X-Men as well.

With newcomers such as Tye Sherida, Sophie Turner and Alexandra Shipp coming on board, it’s possible Fox may do some sort of soft reboot following X-Men: Apocalypse, which Singer has said marks the end of a natural prequel trilogy.

Fox has yet to announce a new X-Men movie, other than the proejcts currenty in development, which include Deadpool 2, Gambit (recently delayed) and Hugh Jackman’s last Wolverine movie (though some seem to think he teased Wolverine 4).

There is even the crazy(?) rumor that the X-Men might meet up with Marvel’s Avengers.

“X-Men: Apocalypse” has a May 27, 2016 release directed by Bryan Singer starring James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Oscar Isaac, Nicholas Hoult, Rose Byrne, Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, Olivia Munn, Lucas Till, Evan Peters, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Alexandra Shipp, Josh Helman, Lana Condor & Ben Hardy.

Synopsis:

Following the critically acclaimed global smash hit X-Men: Days of Future Past, director Bryan Singer returns with X-MEN: APOCALYPSE. Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshipped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.

Watch a video above going over the Batman Vs. Superman Easter Eggs from the Mr. Sunday Movies YouTube channel.

I think one he may have missed is a Watchmen reference when Martha Kent dies and her pearls fall slo-mo into the gutter, which may be similar to the Comedien’s death when the bloody smiley face falls with him from the window.

One I missed was the lead-based smoke grenade Batman used to cloud Superman’s eyesight, enabling Batman to “disappear.”

“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” has a March 25, 2016 release directed by Zack Snyder starring Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jeremy Irons as Alfred, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Ray Fisher as Cyborg with Callan Mulvey, Holly Hunter as Senator Finch and Tao Okamoto as Mercy Graves.

Nate Grey Spotted In X-Men: Apocalypse Trailer

X-Men: Apocalypse Trailer #2

It looks as if we have another cameo by Nathan Grey, the alternate timeline version of Cable, this time for X-Men: Apocalypse.

Nate Grey was also previously thought to be spotted twice in X-Men: Days of Future Past (see below).

A user on reddit spotted what looks to be Nathan Grey in the second X-Men Apocalypse trailer (watch above).

Nathan Grey was from the alternate Marvel Comics reality “Age Of Apocalypse,” and the son of Scott Summers and Jean Grey, but was genitically modified by Mr. Sinister. Nate is also known as X-Man.

It’s likely the inclusion of Nate Grey in X-Men: Apocalypse is more or less an Easter Egg.

Nathan Grey in X-Men: Days Of Future Past:

Tom Hiddleston Picks Team Loki In Captain America: Civil War! (Video)

While the Asardian Trickster will be absent from Captain America: Civil War, that hasn’t stopped Tom Hiddleston from picking a side.

Yahoo caught up with Tom Hiddleston asking the actor if he would pick Team Cap or Team Iron Man.

Hiddleston’s response? Team Loki!

“He’s clearly on Team Loki,” Hiddleston said with a laugh. “They were all fairly unkind to him in The Avengers, so I’m not sure he would be taking sides.”

So what would Loki be doing if he appeared in Captain America: Civil War? Tom Hiddleston has the answer:

“I think he would be sitting on a rooftop somewhere enjoying the fact that the children are squabbling. Going, ‘Ah! This is entertaining.’”

Tom Hiddleston can currently be seen in the Hank Williams biopic, I Saw The Light, and will be back as Loki for Thor: Ragnarok out November 3, 2017.

Watch the video below with Tom Hiddleston talking Loki and Captain America: Civil War.

“Captain America: Civil War” has  a May 6, 2016 release date directed by Anthony and Joe Russo starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo, Paul Bettany, Don Cheadle, Emily VanCamp, William Hurt, Martin Freeman and Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther.

Synopsis:

Captain America: Civil War picks up where Avengers: Age of Ultron left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.

Now Landis is back again on YouTube as well as Twitter making fun of the movie.

In the video below, Landis offers wouldn’t it have been a great idea if the movie played it out as if Bruce Wayne and Batman were separate people, and then gave a “big twist” that they were actually the same.

Landis continues with his sarcasm on Twitter, even penning a Jimmy Olsen post-death scene (Olsen was the unidentified photographer killed in Africa working for the CIA).

Channing Tatum Gambit Movie Gets Delayed

Following the news that Fox pulled Gambit from its release schedule, now it’s known why as the Gambit movie is delayed due to rewrites.

THR reports the Gambit movie was supposed to start filming, but the start of production has been pushed back until the end of 2016 due to the script rewrites.

Now with Gambit getting delayed it’s also reported director Doug Liman is in negotiations to take on another gig, The Wall, a psychological thriller set up at Amazon Studios.

Channing Tatum is still set to star in and produce Gambit; however, now THR’s report says Lea Seydoux as the female lead is questionable because she came on board when Rupert Wyatt was attached, and it isn’t clear if Seydoux will be involved with a new director on board.

Fox also hasn’t announced a new release date for Gambit.
