Spoilers below for The Avengers movie.
[[wysiwyg_imageupload:1663:]]A couple interesting things to come out of the recent press surrounding The Avengers movie.
First off, Warner Bros. seemingly “dissed” Joss Whedon when they turned down his Batman script and canceled Firefly — in the same day.
Well, we know that was a big mistake.
And then we had Joss Whedon actually offering WB advice on what to do for a Justice League movie.
Just speculation on my part, but I bet Whedon didn’t forget what happened with WB.
Because what is interesting, is what takes place in The Avengers movie — particularly the inclusion of a cosmic baddie.
Joss Whedon included Thanos as the mid-credit scene, responsible for giving Loki the alien army. Sure, Whedon says he is a fan of the character, but were other reasons the motivating factor?
Now, it was interesting to see movie goers reaction to Thanos in the theater, because no one, save for a handful, had a clue as to just who the Mad Titan is.
Obviously they are setting up Thanos for a future Marvel Studios movie, but does the use of Thanos by Joss Whedon in The Avengers movie actually trump a future Warner Bros. Justice League Movie?
Comic Book fans certainly know there is more than just a bit of resemblance between the big bad Thanos and DC Comics’s own Darkseid. While at first Thanos was not intended to look like Darkseid, it was Roy Thomas who told Jim Starlin to make Thanos similar to Darkseid.
After seeing how well The Avengers did, it’s definitely not a stretch that WB will try to get a Justice League Movie out sooner rather than later. However, just who will be the villain? Will it be Darkseid? But wait! We just saw “him” in The Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy (hopefully!)?
While Whedon might not have intended to include Thanos to steal Warner Bros.’ thunder from the Justice League Movie, there sure seems to be a crackle in the air!
