Josh Brolin could be jumping ship to the DCU, according to a new rumor and may be James Gunn’s choice to play Green Lantern Hal Jordan.
Gunn has been developing the Lanterns TV series which looks to start production soon. The series will also feature John Stewart.
As we went over in our Armie Hammer article, Lanterns has been described as a “terrestrial-based TV show” similar to True Detective, where two Green Lanterns act as space cops watching over Earth.
Update: It’s said Josh Brolin passed on playing the role.
What does the rumor say?
The rumor about Josh Brolin being possibly being cast as Green Lantern actually comes from two sources.
The first source is the same site that has claimed Marvel’s Eternals star Kumail Nanjiani has been cast as Booster Gold in the DCU.
According to Nexus Point News, Josh Brolin has been offered the role of Green Lantern Hal Jordan in Lanterns. It’s claimed that following actors in their 40s and 50s being looked at, that Josh Brolin (56 years old) became the top choice and has been offered the role.
As has previously been said, the site adds Gunn’s version of Hal Jordan is “described as a Lantern legend and will be a veteran member of the Corps.”
Second source claims same
The second source claiming Josh Brolin has been cast as Green Lantern comes from Viewer Anon on X.
The Twitter user claims to have been told the same thing but was sword to secrecy.
“Um well I can confirm I heard this too, but it was under a very strict ‘Don’t you tell a single fucking soul’ mandate so I have no idea how it leaked. Maybe it’s true, maybe it isn’t, but NPN isn’t pulling this out of their ass,” the account tweeted.
Update: It’s also claimed Matthew McConaughey and Ewan McGregor are up for the role.

What about Thanos and Cable?
Some fans are wondering if Josh Brolin jumps ship to the DCU, what does it mean for Thanos and Cable?
Rumors have offered Josh Brolin might be back for Avengers: Secret Wars, which we can guess might be the King Thanos variant of the Great Titan who Disney is presently using in their theme parks.
Regarding Cable, Deadpool did mention Cable recently in Deadpool & Wolverine but Cable didn’t appear.
Thanos is CGI, so there really shouldn’t be that much of a problem if Brolin returns as Thanos, as he played both Thanos and Cable at the same time.
There might not be anymore plans for Cable, presently, so maybe Brolin will play King Thanos in the MCU and Hal Jordan Green Lantern in Gunn’s DCU.
Or, why not all three? Who would complain?
