In addition to Josh Brolin, add two more to the list to potentially play James Gunn’s Green Lantern in the DCU with Matthew McConaughey and Ewan McGregor.
Monday saw the big rumor hit that Josh Brolin is the top contender to play Green Lantern for Gunn. It’s said Brolin has been offered the role but it’s not known if he accepted the part.
Update: It’s said both Josh Brolin and Matthew McConaughey are not playing Green Lantern.
Now Jeff Sneider weighs in and says if Brolin doesn’t accept the role, next in line is Matthew McConaughey, and then Ewan McGregor.
Yep, what they all have in common is that James Gunn is obviously going for an older approach to Green Lantern Hal Jordan. It’s thought John Stewart in the Lanterns series will be younger.
Josh Brolin is 56, Matthew McConaughey is 54, and Ewan McGregor is 53 years old.
Brolin starred as Thanos in the MCU and Cable in the Fox Marvel universe. Rumors offer Brolin and Thanos could be back for Avengers: Secret Wars.
As the Lanterns series has been described as s a “terrestrial-based TV show” similar to True Detective, well why not go out and get Matthew McConaughey from the series.
And regarding Ewan McGregor, maybe he’s up for another “Obi-Wan” role serving as a mentor to John Stewart, is what my guess is happening.
Sneider also adds James Gunn met with Stephen Williams (Watchmen, Lost, Westworld, The Walking Dead) to direct the Lanterns pilot episode.
It’s also said Gunn is courting Challengers director Luca Guadagnino for a DCU project, rumored to be Sgt. Rock.
