Jim Henson’s Labyrinth is heading back to theatres for its 40th anniversary as Fathom Entertainment teams with The Jim Henson Company and Sony Pictures for a special four-day run from January 8–11. The returning release includes a full 4K remaster of the 1986 film along with a new fan celebration featurette.
A New Featurette for Fans
The anniversary presentation includes a fresh behind-the-scenes piece celebrating decades of Labyrinth fandom. The footage was shot at the recent “Labyrinth Experience & Masked Ball” in the UK, created by Thames Con with The Jim Henson Company. It’s the first time this featurette will be shown in theatres.

Bowie and Connelly’s Fantasy Adventure Still Hits
Released in 1986, the film stars Jennifer Connelly in her breakout role as Sarah and David Bowie as Jareth, The Goblin King. The story follows Sarah’s trek through a maze filled with strange creatures, practical effects, and the signature puppet work from Jim Henson’s Creature Shop.
Directed by Henson and executive produced by George Lucas, the movie became known for its mix of puppetry, fantasy storytelling, and Bowie’s original music. Trevor Jones composed the score, while Bowie contributed several songs performed in the film.
Henson’s Creature Shop at Full Strength
The film’s creature work remains a major part of its legacy. Brian Froud handled conceptual designs, while creatures and puppets were brought to life by performers including Frank Oz, Brian Henson, Kevin Clash, David Goelz, Steve Whitmire, Karen Prell, Ron Mueck, Shari Weiser, and more.
