X-Files Reboot: Ryan Coogler Promises ‘Really F—ing Scary’ Episodes

Ryan Coogler says his X-Files reboot is officially next on his slate—and he’s aiming to scare the hell out of you.

The Black Panther filmmaker offered an update during an interview on Last Podcast on the Left while promoting the release of his new horror movie starring Michael B. Jordan with Sinners, where he confirmed development is moving forward on his reimagining of The X-Files for Disney.

Coogler also revealed he’s spoken with Gillian Anderson about the project and teased that if all goes well, the show will feature some “really f—ing scary” episodes made for both longtime fans and new viewers.

The X-Files reboot has also been described as “diverse,” which sets off red flags, but from Coogler’s latest comments, hopefully it turns out okay, as he is aiming to please the fans.

What does Ryan Coogler say about X-Files?

“I’m working on X-Files. That’s what is immediately next,” said Coogler. “I’ve been excited about that for a long time, and I’m fired up to get back to it. You know some of those episodes, if we do our jobs right, will be really f’n scary.”

Regarding Gillian Anderson, she starred in the original X-Files as Dana Scully with David Duchovny as Fox Mulder.

“I’m talking to the great Gillian Anderson. Yes, she’s amazing. She’s incredible, and fingers crossed there,” said Coogler. “I can’t wait to see her in Tron. I just seen a trailer for that. When I spoke to her, she was finishing that up.”

Coogler continued, “We are going to try to make something really great and really be something for the real X Files fans, and maybe find some new ones.”

The Last Podcast on the Left made remarks referencing how X-Files didn’t end on such a high note, which Coogler is well aware.

“I’m know. I’m now how y’all feel. I understand. Yeah,” Coogler smiled and laughed.

Gillian Anderson supports Coogler

Last year, following the news of the X-Files reboot, Gillian Anderson said she “cannot think of a better way around for a reboot to happen,” calling Coogler “a bit of a genius.”

She added, “Whether I am involved in it is a whole other thing. I’m not saying no. I think he’s really cool, and I think if he did it, it would probably be done incredibly well. And maybe I’ll pop in for a little something something.”
