Second Avenger Rumored For Spider-Man: Homecoming

A second member of The Avengers may be joining Spider-Man: Homecoming.

In addition to Robert Downey Jr., possibly Scarlett Johansson may be appearing in Spider-Man: Homecoming as Black Widow.

The tidbit comes from a Twitter account that has been posting Spider-Man: Homecoming set photos out of Atlanta.

“Well, well… hi Scarlett. What’cha doing here?” the Atlanta Filming Twitter account posted.

The account also posted that Robert Downey Jr. had returned to the set of Spider-Man: Homecoming the day before, so it’s likely Tony Stark and Black Widow would be featured in the scene.

Scarlett Johannson did recently finish filming on Ghost in the Shell so she does have time to shoot Spider-Man: Homecoming, and if she is in the movie, more than likely it’s in a cameo role.

Below you can check out some Spider-Man: Homecoming set photos from the Twitter account.

Chris Evans has also stated he wants to appear in Spider-Man: Homecoming, but as of now, the only Avenger confirmed is Robert Downey Jr.

“Spider-Man: Homecoming” has a July 7, 2017 release directed by Jon Watts starring Tom Holland, Zendaya, Michael Keaton, Donald Glover, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Tyne Daly, Bokeem Woodbine, with Marisa Tomei, and Robert Downey Jr.

Synopsis:

A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Marvel Studios’ “Captain: Civil War,” begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging superhero in “Spider-Man: Homecoming.”

Joss Whedon Wants To Make The Black Widow Movie

While Joss Whedon has taken a bit of a break following The Avengers 2, Whedon recently said he would like to return to Marvel.

Well, how about directing the Black Widow movie?

Whedon told IGN (via Yahoo) that he would be all up for it.

“If someone pointed at me and said, ‘Do you want to do a Black Widow movie?’, the answer would be, ‘Duh!’” Whedon said. “For two reasons: I think that character really is very interesting and very earthbound, so it’s the kind of action that I got to do less of with somebody like Thor or The Vision… Also, Scarlett Johansson is just delightful. She works really hard but she just spends most of her time cracking me up, so it would be a fun shoot.”

Whedon continues with mention that his version of a Black Widow movie would be more of a spy thriller and less of a super hero flick: “…a good, paranoid, John le Carré-on-crack kind of thing.”

Marvel Studios hasn’t announced a Black Widow movie yet, and it has left fans shaking their heads as to why.

Scarlett Johansson has proved she can carry her own movie as Lucy was a whopping success and wasn’t even a part of the Marvel brand. In addition, Scarett Johansson also happens to be Hollywood’s top grossing actress, and she next stars in Ghost in the Shell.

The good news is that Marvel themselves have taken notice and are aware of the potential of a Black Widow movie.

“It’s a no-brainer, right?” Anthony Russo told Collider back in May. “I don’t think [it’ll take] much,” added Joe Russo. “I think it’s just a function of where on the slate it goes. She’s a badass.”

Marvel Explains Ancient One Doctor Strange Casting: Not Of Asian Origin

Long story short: Marvel Studios has been receiving online flak due to the casting of Tilda Swinton as the Ancient One in Doctor Strange. Things seemed to get even more heated when Scarlett Johansson was cast in Ghost In the Shell (a non-Marvel movie), leading to accussations of the whitewashing of Asian characters all around.

Now Marvel Studios has issued a statement defending the casting of Tilda Swinton as the Ancient One in Doctor Strange. We see they changed up the origin to give the character a Celtic background (similar to the change of Ben Kingsley getting cast as Mandarin in Iron Man 3).

The writer of Doctor Strange also offered the reason for the change is due to not wanting to upset the Chinese (who don’t get along with Tibet). China is obviously becoming a huge cash cow for movies; if the Chinese Communist govt. was to ban Doctor Strange, obviously that would hurt Marvel and Disney’s pocketbook.

Marvel’s statement (via Mashable):

Marvel has a very strong record of diversity in its casting of films and regularly departs from stereotypes and source material to bring its MCU to life. The Ancient One is a title that is not exclusively held by any one character, but rather a moniker passed down through time, and in this particular film the embodiment is Celtic. We are very proud to have the enormously talented Tilda Swinton portray this unique and complex character alongside our richly diverse cast.

Doctor Strange writer C. Robert Cargill comments:

“[The Ancient One] originates from Tibet, so if you acknowledge that Tibet is a place and that he’s Tibetan, you risk alienating one billion people who think that that’s bullsh*t and risk the Chinese government going, ‘Hey, you know one of the biggest film-watching countries in the world? We’re not going to show your movie because you decided to get political,” Cargill explained.

If we decide to go the other way and cater to China in particular,” he continued, ” — if you think it’s a good idea to cast a Chinese actress as a Tibetan character, you are out of your damn fool mind and have no idea what the f*ck you’re talking about.”

“Doctor Strange” has a November 4, 2016 release also starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, Tilda Swinton, Benedict Wong and Mads Mikkelsen.

“Doctor Strange” follows the story of neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a horrific car accident, discovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions.

“Doctor Strange” is the latest film in Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Phase 3’s goal—over the course of four years and nine films—is to introduce audiences to new heroes and continue the adventures of fan favorites.

Max Landis & Ming-Na Wen React To Scarlett Johansson Ghost In The Shell Casting

A bomb went off the other day on the internet when Scarlett Johansson was cast in the Ghost in the Shell movie as a well known Asian character.

The controversy even saw Agents of SHIELD‘s Ming-Na Wen take to Twitter to offer up she wasn’t happy with the news.

“Nothing against Scarlett Johansson. In fact, I’m a big fan. But everything against this Whitewashing of Asian role,” Wen tweeted along with an “unamused” emoji.

There has even been a report that Paramount actually went out and had digital tests done on some of the actors in Ghost in the Shell to make them look more Asian (I’m sure that would have went over well), but it’s said the studio decided against doing it.

Now Max Landis has weighed in on the controversy. Landis is a Hollwood screenwriter who grew up in the business and wrote Victor Frankenstein, American Ultra and Chronicle

Team Cap posters and 22 high-res pics have also been released.

Robert Downey Jr.:

“People are much less capable of processing things than they think and we’re kind of simple and dumb. And for a guy who is fast, he’s definitely on the verge of practically getting over himself,” says Downey of Stark, decked out in business attire rather than his Iron Man suit on this May day of filming in Atlanta. “I almost feel like sometimes he’s some (old man) who goes back to the neighborhood and goes, ‘Kids, it doesn’t have to be like this.’ ”

“Regardless of whose argument is what, communication is about really being able to fully see the other person’s point of view,” he says. “I fully see Cap’s point of view — I don’t know if Tony does.”

Don Cheadle:

“Obviously, I can’t do anything that violates my oath but at the same time we’re dealing with things that haven’t ever been in the playbook.”

Paul Bettany:

“The stronger you are, the more you invite challenge. Something has to rise to fill the vacuum.”

Scarlett Johansson:

“Either we’re going to fight it and lose or we’re going to go with it and make it work,” Johansson says. “Regimes come and go but we have to pat the backs this time and shake hands and play nice.”

Chadwick Boseman:

“He’s definitely his own guy,” Boseman says. “There’s no ‘I’m going to do whatever you say because you’re the leader of this team.’ That’s not who he is. But I would say that’s also true of other characters.”

Anthony & Joe Russo Would Be Interested In Black Widow Movie

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23778:]]

If Marvel Studios was ever to make a Black Widow solo movie, would Anthony and Joe Russo, the directors behind Captain America: Civil War, be interested?

You betcha.

Anthony and Joe Russo were asked about a Black Widow movie while doing press for the Chinese. Here is what they had to say:

“Hell, yeah. We love that character,” Joe Russo responded.

“And we love Scarlett [Johansson],” Anthony Russo added.

“We find that the character is one of the richest, if not the richest character,  in the Marvel universe,” Joe Russo said. “A very complex character, who is haunted by demons and her understanding of the world is fascinating. I think there is a lot that can be done with that character.”

Regarding Black Widow in Captain America: Civil War, Anthony Russo said:

“Her and Captain America, I think their relationship came to a very intersting place in The Winter Soldier. They developed a trust of one another that was really intersting. One of our favorite parts of that movie was the relationship between him and her. And so because they have such a thick emotional relationship, yes, in Civil War, of course we are going to use that. She has a very important role in Civil War, it’s a very complicated role in Civil War, and it goes very much to the heart of the relationship of her and Captain America.

“Captain America: Civil War” has  a May 6, 2016 release date directed by Anthony and Joe Russo starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo, Paul Bettany, Don Cheadle, Emily VanCamp, William Hurt, Martin Freeman and Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther.

Wesley Snipes Wants Blade To Bite Scarlett Johansson

The past couple of Comic-Cons saw Wesley Snipes make mention he would do another Blade film, with most recently the actor teasing talks with Marvel, and now Snipes offers more while talking with the Huff Post.

“There’s always a possibility,” Snipes said about another Blade movie. “It’s in Marvel’s hands, and they are controlling the pace and flow with that. Conversations have been good. They see the value in it. We see the value in it,. I’m still in shape enough and fit enough to handle the role. We’ll see where it goes. I don’t really know what’s going to happen to it yet.”

The interview continues with mention of Blade being featured in an Avengers movie, with Snipes noting Blade would have to bite someone and jokes it should be Black Widow.

“That would be interesting,” Snipes replied about Blade and the Avengers. “I mean, I know it’s in the comic book. It would be interesting to see where they would place him and where he really would fit in. He’s got to bite somebody. I don’t know who he’s going to bite… Scarlett Johansson [laughs].”

The most recent rumors surrounding Blade have suggested a new female Blade movie, and Snipes has even teased playing a different character that could go toe to toe with Blade.

George Takei Calls Out Marvel; Taylor Swift Does A Better Job

Taylor Swift “Bad Blood”

Marvel is definitely feeling the heat for not having a female superhero movie.

Earlier saw Mark Ruffalo call out Marvel regarding the lack of Black Widow merchandise for his daughters.

To add to that, Marvel and Hasbro changed an Avengers 2 toy that removed Black Widow from the motorcycle scene as well.

Now George Takei is at it.

Takei called out Marvel regarding the new Taylor Swift music video for her latest song “Bad Blood,” which is a sci-fi romp done in the style of Sin City featuring celebrities galore.

“Taylor Swift released her much anticipated video Bad Blood starring girl celebs as action stars,” Takei tweeted. “Come on Marvel, T. Swift is showing you up.”

The tweet was retweeted over 2200 times and favorited almost 2000 times.

Marvel has yet to make a superhero female movie, but plans are underway. While it won’t star Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, it will feature Carol Danvers as Captain Marvel, though it’s not due out for another three years. Marvel also recently introduced Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch for some added girl power in The Avengers: Age Of Ultron as well.

It’s unknown why Marvel won’t go with a solo Black Widow movie; Scarlett Johansson has already proven she can be a bigger draw than both Captain America and Thor. Johansson’s Lucy netted more than both of the pair of Assemblers first solo films, and it wasn’t even Marvel related. One would think Black Widow would be an even bigger draw if you add the Marvel fanbase to the Lucy numbers.

Marvel, you know you are in trouble when Taylor Swift is showing you up.

Watch: Black Widow Movie Title Sequence (Fan-Made)

While Scarlett Johansson has been a proven success for the Marvel movies as well as her own flicks, for some odd reason Marvel isn’t going with a solo Black Widow movie anytime soon.

We don’t know whether it’s because Marvel CEO Ike Perlmutter isn’t big on female superhero films, but at least Marvel is supposed to be doing a Carol Danvers film.

So while we wait, check out a cool fan-created title sequence above for a potential Black Widow movie.

Scarlett Johansson can be seen as Black Widow in The Avengers: Age Of Ultron (currently in theaters) and is presently filming Captain America: Civil War.

For the record, Johansson’s non-Marvel movie Lucy made over $458 million at the box office on a $40 million budget, which actually beat out Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger at a third of those Marvel movies’ budget.

Evans & Renner In The Hot Seat Following Black Widow “Slut” & “Whore” Jokes

Perhaps the press tour for The Avengers 2 has gone on just a little too long (for both the actors and the fans).

Just the other day saw Robert Downey Jr. walk out an interview, and now both Chris Evans and Jeremy Renner are in the hot seat.

Evans, who plays Captain America, and Renner, who plays Hawkeye, both participated in an interview with the Digital Spy (watch above).

When it was brought up that fans’ had hoped Black Widow would have been linked romantically to either one of their characters, Renner responded with a straight face, “She’s a slut.”

Evans laughed and agreed with him saying, “I was going to say something along that line… a complete whore.”

Renner then added, “Trick, man.” With Evans laughing about “she’s a slut.”

The interviewer – who is female – then went with it and and added, “Whatever movie it is, she’ll be just the sidekick. She’ll be flirting away…”

“That’s right,” Renner agreed.

“Just flirting with everybody,” Evans said.

“She has a prosthetic leg anyway,” Renner said.

“Leading everybody on,” joked Evans, with the interviewer laughing along with them.

Note: The remarks were not made about Scarlett Johansson, but about the fictional Marvel character Black Widow. However, that didn’t deter fans as many took to social networks to voice their dissatisfaction for the Avengers actors’ behavior.

Evans has since apologized as his rep sent USA Today the following:

“Yesterday we were asked about the rumors Black Widow wanted to be in a relationship with both Hawkeye and Captain America. We answered in a juvenile and offensive way that rightfully angered some fans. I regret it and sincerely apologize.”

Update: Renner also released the following:

“I am sorry that this tasteless joke about a fictional character offended anyone. It was not meant to be serious in any way. Just poking fun during an exhausting and tedious press tour.”
