Ben Affleck Updates Batman Solo Movie

Today coming out of the Justice League set reports sees Ben Affleck confirm he is directing the Batman solo movie and offers an update on its progress.

Affleck is working on the Batman script with Geoff Johns and says they are still getting it right (via Collider).

“I think they have a date for it. Although, I don’t know if I would necessarily be able to make that date because I don’t have a script that’s ready yet. So that’s my—my timetable is I’m not going to make a movie until there’s a script that I think is good because I’ve been on the end of the things when you make movies when you have a script that’s not good yet and it doesn’t pan out.” [laughs]

Affleck continues with mention he wants the Batman script to be the best that it can before they actually go out and do it.

I have a script, we’re still working on it, and I’m not happy enough with it yet to actually go out there and make a Batman movie, for which I have the highest of standards, I would say. That’s something that would have to pass a very high bar for me. It’s not just like, ‘Yeah, that might be fun, let’s go try this out.’”

Earlier saw Ben Affleck confirm an appearance at next month’s Comic-Con, so perhaps we’ll get an announcement about the Batman movie there with the possible release date.

WB also showed off new logos for Batman (picture above) and the DC movies at the Licensing Expo.

Ben Affleck next stars as Batman in the Justice League movie, out November 17, 2017.

Willem Dafoe’s Character Revealed For Justice League

With all the Justice League news comes word of just who Willem Dafoe is playing in film.

Willem Dafoe is playing the DC Comics character Nuidis Vulko, who in the comics is a key figure in Atlantean politics as well as a scientist.

Vulko is from a generation preceding Aquaman, which is reflected in the movie by the character featuring gills, which signifies that the Atlanteans adapted to underwater breathing at some point in their history.

Various set reports describe Willem Dafoe in Justice League as featuring a scruffy beard with long silver hair. Vulko will wear armor that features silver lacing and is weathered by the years, setting it apart from Aquaman’s own gleaming and gilded newer armor.

It’s unknown exactly how Willem Dafoe will play into the movie, but it has been said he will be an ally to Aquaman. At times in the comics, Vulko has been a close ally as well as an enemy of Aquaman. It’s known the Atlanteans hold one of three Mother Boxes in the Justice League movie, so perhaps Dafoe is involved that way. It’s also unknown if Dafoe will be in James Wan’s Aquaman movie as well.

Justice League: Flash & Batman Scene Description

Following the Justice League details and Gordon, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash and Cyborg scene description, now a scene involving Barry Allen and Bruce Wayne becomes known.

It’s already been said that the initial Flash costume will be made from spacesuit material held together by electrified wiring, and that by the end of Justice League, Waynetech will have created a new costume for the Flash.

This scene involves Barry Allen (Ezra Miller) returning to his apartment where he finds Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) already there. We also see in the ensuing dialogue that Barry makes a joke which references Gorilla Grodd.

Scene description:

Barry Allen’s apartment is filled with all sorts of homemade tech. Bruce is sitting in a Lazy Boy chair waiting for him and has the convenience store security footage from Lex’s files in Batman Vs. Superman.

JoBlo has the dialogue between Barry Allen and Bruce Wayne as follows:

BARRY ALLEN: “You must be looking for a person who looks exactly like me but is definitely not me. Somebody…I don’t know…hippie…long hair. A very attractive Jewish boy.”
Bruce shows him the camera footage which has Barry grabbing milk in the store.
BARRY ALLEN: “Well he drinks milk, and I don’t drink milk.”
BRUCE WAYNE: “I know you have abilities. I just don’t know what they are.”
BARRY ALLEN: “My special skills include viola, web design, fluent in sign-language, gorilla sign-language…”
BRUCE WAYNE: “Silicon-based sand coarse fabric. Abrasion-resistant. Heat-resistant.
BARRY ALLEN: “Uh yeah I do competitive ice dancing.”
BRUCE WAYNE: “This is used on the space shuttle to prevent it from burning up upon re-entry.”
BARRY ALLEN: “I ummm do…very competitive ice dancing. Look man I don’t know who you are but whoever you’re looking for, it’s not me.”
Bruce then quickly throws a Batarang at Barry as the environment goes into slo-motion except for him who easily catches the Batarang and makes the revelation that Bruce is Batman.
BARRY ALLEN: “You’re the Batman?”
BRUCE WAYNE: “So you’re fast.”
BARRY ALLEN: “That feels like an over-simplification.”
BRUCE WAYNE: “I’m putting together a team of people with special abilities. You see I think enemies are coming…”
BARRY ALLEN: “STOP! Right there. I’m in.”
BRUCE WAYNE: “You are. Just like that?”
BARRY ALLEN: “Yeah. Umm…I need friends.”
BRUCE WAYNE: “Great.”
BARRY ALLEN: looking at the Batarang “Can I keep this?”

Justice League Scene Description Revealed (Gordon, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Cyborg)

With the release of the Justice League logo and details, now comes a scene description that involves JK Simmons’ Commissioner Gordon, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash and Cyborg.

Update: A Batman and Flash scene description is made known.

Spoilers follow.

Gordon summons Batman with the Batsignal, with Batman showing up with Wonder Woman and The Flash. Gordon tells Batman that eight scientists have gone missing. Cyborg then appears out of the shadows and says, ‘Nine. A Star Labs scientist was taken tonight.” It’s said Wonder Woman looks at Cyborg with a knowing and seductive gaze. Batman asks who took them, “Winged monkeys?” Wonder Woman clarifies, “Parademons. There must be a nest nearby.”

It’s learned the Parademons nest is located underground in an old abandoned tunnel that links Gotham to Metroplois. The Flash jokes that if Cyborg is going to come with them, they are not all going to fit. Batman then says, “I have something bigger,” with a new vehicle revealed, The Nightcrawler, which was developed by his father Thomas Wayne (and is involved in a big tunnel battle).

Gordon’t turns his back, with Batman, Wonder Woman and Cyborg sneaking away (like Batman does). The Flash jokes, “Oh, so they all just left? That’s rude.” The Flash then makes his exit.

New Justice League Details, Plot & Logo Revealed

We get some insights to the Justice League movie as various sites are reporting on their set visits from London.

WB also released the Justice League movie logo (pictured above).

Details about the Justice League movie include (via joblo):

Update: A Justice League scene description featuring Gordon, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash and Cyborg becomes known.

Update #2: A Batman and Flash scene description is released.

Update #3: Official Justice League synopsis revealed.

It will be lighter in tone than Batman Vs. Superman. It will be more fun and will focus on the building of the Justice League uniting against a common threat.

Justice League is said to have a strong Jack Kirby influence, with the story revolving around the pursuit of three Mother Boxes (device that created Cyborg in Batman Vs. Superman): one from Earth, one from Atlantis, and the third from The Amazons.

Justice League takes place months after Batman Vs. Superman, with Bruce Wayne heavily affected by the death of Superman. Batman seeks to honor Superman’s death by building the Justice League. It’s further said Batman is not as dark as he was in Batman Vs. Superman, but Batman is now full of hope and centered on uniting the Justice League to fight against common threats while at the same time redeeming mankind.

Superman’s return will be featured later in the movie, with a large part of the film dealing with Batman uniting the Justice League.

As seen in the Batman Vs. Superman Lex Luthor deleted scene, Steppenwolf will be a key villain, but it sounds like there will be others. Steppenwolf has yet to be cast. Lex may be involved with the Steppenwolf and Darkseid story.

Darkseid will be an influence in the movie, with the parademons scene in the Batman Vs. Superman Nightmare scene reappearing. It’s unknown how much of Darkseid will be in the movie.

Ben Affleck confirmed he is directing the solo Batman movie, but they are still getting the script right.

Affleck is said to be executive producing Justice League to oversee Batman.

Batman’s suit will get upgrades, and a new and improved version of the Armored Batman suit will reappear at the end of Justice League.

Bruce Wayne will build a Waynetech carrier, The Flying Fox, for the Justice League. Batman will also have a new vehicle, The Nightcrawler, which was designed by his father, Thomas Wayne (said to play a large role in an underground tunnel battle).

Willem Dafoe’s role is revealed, which is a mentor to Jason Momoa’s Aquaman named Vulko. It’s said Vulko is more of an early Atlantean as he has gils, meaning the Atlanteans adapted to breathing underwater at some point.

Amber Heard is playing Mera, described as a warrior and a sorceress.

JK Simmon’s Gordon looks pretty much like you expect (mustache, etc.).

The Flash will be comic relieve in Justice League. The Ezra Miller Flash costume will be initially made from spacesuit material held together by electrified wire. Waynetech will design a new costume for The Flash, seen by the end of the movie.

Ray Fisher’s Cyborg costume will be all CGI.

Junkie XL is returning to score Justice League. Some of Hans Zimmer’s previous music will be used.

Zack Snyder teases when – and if – we see the return of Superman, his hair may be a little longer (a nod to the death and return of Superman story from the DC Comics).

“Justice League” has a November 17, 2017 release directed by Zack Snyder starring Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon and Willem Dafoe as the Atlantean, Vulko.

Amber Heard Too Skinny For Justice League Movie?

It’s being reported that Amber Heard didn’t go to her Justice League costume fitting in London.

Amber Heard has been cast as Mera, the love interest to Jason Momoa’s Aquaman.

According to TMZ, due to stress over the pending divorce with Johnny Depp and claims of domestic violence, Amber Heard is said to have lost too much weight – 20 lbs – causing the producers of Justice League to feel she is currently not fit enough for the role.

Amber Heard was supposed to be in London for her Justice League fitting, which caused her court case with Depp to be delayed, but she has since been spotted in Hollywood, which has led to claims by Depp’s camp that Amber Heard is attempting to dodge questioning under oath.

Simmons as Commissioner Gordon and Willem Dafoe in an unknown role.

Rick Famuyiwa Teases Cyborg For The Flash Movie

Back in April, Batman Vs. Superman producer Deborah Snyder hinted The Flash movie may team up Ezra Miller with Ray Fisher’s Cyborg:

As you can imagine, when we get to the Flash movie, Ezra Miller and Ray Fisher — who plays Cyborg — are kind of our youngest characters, and they have a really nice comradery with each other. Ezra is super funny, so the tone of that film will be very different than the rest of them.

Now the possibility of a Flash and Cyborg team-up movie seems more likely as The Flash movie director Rick Famuyiwa is in London, where Justice League is filming, and posted an image of himself along with Ezra Miller and Ray Fisher.

“Look who I ‘ran’ into on the streets of London,” Famuyiwa posted on Twitter with an added “wink.”

“The Flash” has a March 16, 2018 release.

Justice League Dark Animated Movie On The Way

It’s learned that following Batman: The Killing Joke, that WB is releasing an animated Justice League Dark movie.

What this means for the Guillermo Del Toro live-action movie of the same name is anybody’s guess, but more than likely it may mean it isn’t happening.

The info comes from the British Board Of Film Classification who has a rating for the Justice League Dark preview that is a part of the upcoming Batman: The Killing Joke Blu-Ray.

The Justice League Dark movie was supposed to feature some of DC’s more supernatural characters; however, I do believe Guillermo Del Toro did drop out of it, so it looks like they are going with an animated version instead.

Ben Affleck Says Batman Movie Will Feature Original Story

We now know a solo Batman movie is in the works written by Ben Affleck and Geoff Johns.

Back while promoting Batman Vs. Superman in March, Affleck was asked if he was directing a solo Batman movie, would he use the stories from Batman: The Killing Joke or Red Hood. Affleck replies he would do an original story, so it would be something new for the fans, but would borrow what he could from the comics.

Here’s the blurb via Cines Argentinos.

I think what I would do, what I probably would do, is in some ways what Zack did with this movie, which is to borrow certain things from the great comic books, but create an original story around it because I wouldn’t want the fans to already know the story and be familiar, but I would borrow, steal, great things that have been done before in the comics.

We can obviously guess Affleck was writing the Batman movie at the time of being questioned, so his answer probably sheds light on his and Geoff Johns’ direction for the movie, which is speculated to be titled The Batman.

Willa Holland Confirms Arrow Character Deaths Because of DC Movies

Willa Holland and Katrina Law appeared at the recent MCM London Comic-Con where they confirmed character deaths on Arrow are a result of the DC movies.

Holland and Law confirmed the Suicide Squad character deaths in Arrow were a result of the movie, and it’s heavily speculated the same applies to the recent death of Black Canary in the series as well. It’s also been said Atom was used instead of Blue Beetle because of potential movie plans.

Holland and Law also make comments that they think both Stephen Amell and Grant Gustin would have killed it in the DC movie universe if allowed to play their respective characters of Green Arrow and The Flash.

Watch the video below for more.

Holland offered:

When DC found out they were going to be doing their own movie we had to axe all of the characters before we even got to show them.

It was annoying at first and then when Stephen found out there was going to be a Justice League movie it only seemed, rightly so, he would be playing Green Arrow on it as well as Grant playing the Flash. It just seemed like the right normal answer.

Once they said no, you can’t really fight against them for it, because they are the people that gave us a job in the first place.

You just have to sit there on your hands, like okay, I get it!”

Watchmen Co-Creator Dave Gibbons Slams Batman Vs. Superman & DC

Watchmen co-creator Dave Gibbons attended the recent MCM London Comic-Con where he talked about DC and Marvel.

Last week saw DC Comics release their big Rebirth issue which tied the DC Comics universe directly into the Gibbons and Alan Moore’s Watchmen universe.

Gibbons didn’t seem too pleased by that.

“I wouldn’t make the question too long. All I’m going to say is no comment,” Gibbons said when Rebirth and Doctor Manhattan were brought up. “I have no comment.”

Gibbons was then asked if he consulted on Rebirth or if DC bothered to drop him an e-mail.

“No, they didn’t. And that’s all I’m going to say,” Gibbons said.

Gibbons then went on length about his thoughts on the DC film universe, Batman Vs. Superman, and the Marvel Universe (watch the full video below):

“I feel that what is happening now with the DC characters in film, to my mind, is going in the wrong direction… What Marvel has seemed to have done is take their characters, with a dark side and a light side, and their humor and their pathos, and their human emotion, and they actually have a long vision of what they’re going to do. They put together films that are really entertaining, that are exciting, that do have threat and jeopardy, but have humor and a human quality to it, and a sense of hope.

But I feel what DC has done particularly with the Superman vs. Batman movie is they really have taken a misstep on it. I mean, I wrote a comic book called World’s Finest, which was Superman vs. Batman, and what I homed in, and I am not saying this is the only take, but it might have helped, was you have Batman who is a dark hidden creature who lives in a dark evil city whose antagonist is a brightly colored clown. You got Superman who is a brightly colored figure, the yang if you like to Batman’s yin, he lives in a bright hopeful city, but with a villain, an opponent, who is a dark grey scheming business man. So the whole universe’s are completely complimentary. When I wrote my story, I got a lot of mileage out of crossing those over, and it turned out Luthor went to Gotham, and the Joker went to Metropolis, and the Joker wanted to black out Metropolis, and Luthor wanted to set Gotham on fire.

So to me if you are doing Superman vs. Batman, the first thing, which is implied by the “vs,” is there has to be a difference, and I think where the latest film suffered was because they were both these dark opaque angsty creatures. I thought, I have to say that Ben Affleck’s Batman was brilliant. I thought if he’d been in a Batman film on his own… I also think DC sort of lost their nerve because Superman Vs. Batman, which is basically Frank Miller’s Dark Knight story, is enough for a movie without putting Doomsday in it, which is another complete Superman movie, without shoehorning The Flash and the Cyborg, and without Wonder Woman, she’s a movie in her own right.

Perhaps at the moment, I’m less than 100% thrilled with DC. I’m certainly not coming down on Zack, but to my taste, they kind of missed the [inaudible] there. I think also Marvel have been really bold. They introduced the characters slowly, so when they put them all in a movie together, it gave me that same thrill as I had when a kid when they put all the characters into the Avengers. ‘Wow! They’re all in one comic!’ And the latest Captain America [Civil War] movie, the bit when the two teams run toward each other with all their powers blazing was just ‘Oh! Yeah! This is what comics are all about!’ I think Marvel have done it with verve and wit. DC kind of missed out on that.”
