Gal Gadot Describes Wonder Woman’s Powers In Batman Vs. Superman

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:24054:]]

Check out Gal Gadot, Zack Snyder and Deborah Snyder talking Wonder Woman from the latest issue of Empire Magazine for Batman Vs. Superman.

Zack Snyder on casting Wonder Woman:

“It was so incredibly organic how Wonder Woman came into the story. The whole concept came of, ‘Let’s not save anything. Let’s try it all.’ Then Wonder Woman’s entrance made us realize we were much closer to the Justice League than we thought. We realized we were one movie away.”

Gal Gadot on casting Wonder Woman:

“I mean I could have guessed. I thought I was going to be Selina, you know? I only knew what role it was when I flew into test with Ben (Affleck). I was very excited. Anytime I had general meetings in L.A., I always said that my dream role was to do an empowered, independent woman who doesn’t rely on men.”

Deborah Snyder on Gal Gadot:

“She just has this magic quality” and noted the other actresses who auditioned were “amazing.”

On Wonder Woman’s powers:

“…Gadot confirms when it comes to inborn talent, her metahuman heals quickly, jumps to heights where she is almost flying and can really pack a punch.”

“She is also over 5000 years old, ‘Because she’s seen it all,’ says Gadot, ‘she has seen what humans can do, so it was very hard for her to come back and fight.'”

Gal Gadot on Diana Prince:

“They have the same attitude. Although when she is Diana, she tries to blend in, she is not too outgoing. I don’t want people to think she is perfect. She can be naughty.”

New Batman Vs. Superman High-Res Images; Snyder, Affleck & Cavill Talk Justice League

Batman Vs. Superman Trailer #2

Check out a batch of high-res images for Batman Vs. Superman below as well as comments from Zack Snyder talking about the characters and Justice League, with Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill adding their thoughts on the DC movie universe.

We’ve also recently seen a look at the Jason Momoa Aquaman Halloween costume and two NFL Wild Card playoff spots have been released (here and here).

David Ayer and Ben Affleck also talk Batman in Suicide Squad, with new high-res pics released as well.

Zack Snyder on Justice League:

“I love Batman and Superman and Wonder Woman, but having Flash and Aquaman and Cyborg and to see them all standing together, it’s a pretty dorky and cool experience for me,” says Snyder, who’s introducing some of his new Leaguers in Dawn of Justice.”

“Basically every one of those characters has a logo that you would recognize without them standing there, and that’s a hard thing to achieve in this pop-culture world. We have history to draw on, but we also have these new frontiers to forge.”

Zack Snyder on Batman:

You can see the idea of the innocent being victimized by whatever they are, aliens, he doesn’t know — that’s the thing that really boils his blood, as you can imagine it would,” Snyder says. “Suddenly the innocent children of the world are all of us.”

His caped (and often armored) crusader is “a guy who had been through that experience already for many years and was kind of burnt out and asking himself what the point of it all was and going through an existential crisis.”

Zack Snyder on Wonder Woman:

“She’s a powerful female superhero, which is a thing we haven’t had for a while,” Snyder says. “She’s a piece of IP that basically exists in pop culture in a way where every kid’s got a Wonder Woman T-shirt and they don’t really know why. I want to give the why back to that.”

Henry Cavill on Superman:

“He can sure as hell take Batman out if he wants to, and Batman takes advantage of that,” Cavill says, comparing Superman’s constrained Clark Kent side to a dad playing football with a bunch of children.

“He’s not going to go all-out against the kids because he’ll end up smashing people around. It’s the idea of still wanting to have fun but no one gets hurt, so you’re being careful about where your knees and elbows are going. That’s what Clark is for me, but Superman is far more relaxed. Superman is dad just being dad at home.”

Henry Cavill on the Justice League movie universe:

“There’s a whole world of fantasy in comic books, and if you just focus on one small portion of it, you’re never going to get the full magic of it,” Cavill says. “Now that we’re introducing all these other characters and really building the universe to a far larger place than just a simple alien’s life on Earth, it really makes it extraordinarily interesting.”

Ben Affleck On Batman:

His caped (and often armored) crusader is “a guy who had been through that experience already for many years and was kind of burnt out and asking himself what the point of it all was and going through an existential crisis.”

“Batman is covered up by a suit and sometimes a car and sometimes a lot of vehicles and weapons, whereas Bruce Wayne is much more naked — it’s just you and a suit of clothes,” Affleck says.

“You can’t really play Batman because Batman is different things to different people. We project our own things onto the mythology of what Batman is, and he has to be able to be projected upon. With Bruce Wayne, you have to bring something distinct and new and different.”

Ben Affleck on the Justice League movie universe:

“I’ve been really impressed just as a working stiff to see how they’re doing it.”

Zack Snyder talks Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman & Gal Gadot

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23644:]]

Zack Snyder offered a few tidbits of information regarding Wonder Woman in Batman Vs. Superman. You can head on over to Australia’s Film Ink for more.

• “We tested a bunch of actresses, as you can imagine. But the thing with Gal is that she’s strong, she’s beautiful, and she’s a kind person, which is interesting, but fierce at the same time. It’s that combination of being fierce but kind at the same time that we were looking for.”

• “…by the way, she really held her own with Ben in the screen test. Ben was like, ‘Whoa, that girl is something else!’ That was a good sign, because Ben is very tough in the scene, and he’s big and commanding.”

• “…she has a cameo in this movie. No, actually… it’s bigger than a cameo. She comes in and does something.”

• “They’re [Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman] forced to work together.”

Following Batman vs. Superman, Gal Gadot stars in the Wonder Woman movie, which has a June 23, 2017 release.

Robin Wright Rumored To Replace Nicole Kidman In Wonder Woman

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23404:]]

Nicole Kidman was previously rumored for a role in the Wonder Woman movie, but now it’s said that is not the case with Robin Wright (House of Cards) potentially in line for the character, which was previously said to be a high-ranking Amazonian Warrior.

The update comes via Twitter from a reporter for Variety who states Kidman apparently had a scheduling conflict.

It’s noted that Wright, who is already confirmed for Wonder Woman, may play the character meant for Kidman instead of whatever character Wright was originally set to play.

It’s also possible Cate Blanchett may have been up for the same role; however, it’s now said Blanchett is being courted for Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok.

Wonder Woman has a June 23, 2017 release directed by Patty Jenkins starring Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, Chris Pine  as Captain Steve Trevor, with Robin Wright, Danny Huston, David Thewlis , Ewen Bremner, Saïd Taghmaoui, Elena Anaya and Lucy Davis in unknown roles.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23365:]]

BEN AFFLECK:

If you had to introduce your Batman to somebody who doesn’t know the character, how would you describe him?

Ben Affleck: Usually, the films show Batman starting off, or in the prime of his career. Here, you’re dealing with an older version, a guy at the end of his journey. He’ll find meaning in his own life during his conflict with Superman. He really thinks Superman is an existential menace, and he believes destroying him will be his legacy. We also play a bit more with the billionaire playboy side of the character. He lives that life at full tilt. He courts many women, owns many cars, and parties a lot. He does that as a way to fill the void in his soul. Moreover, past incarnations dealt with a straightforward search for justice. This time, Batman’s reasoning is clouded by frustration, bitterness and anger.

Have you analyzed Christian Bale’s version in order to distinguish yourself?

Ben Affleck: I don’t want to compete with other incarnations, nor do I want to emulate them. Those versions belong in another universe. Christopher Nolan used his Batman to tell a finite story. My version is different, but remains faithful to the Batman mythology and all the themes associated with it. The other difference is that Nolan’s Batman isn’t part of a universe where other superheroes exist as well. Here – because we’re working towards the Justice League – there’s Superman, and it’s a world populated with super beings. This situation generates an altogether new reality.

How did you react when you first saw yourself in the Bat suit?

Ben Afflleck: When you’re reading the script, you’re wondering how you’re going to play Batman. Then you put on the suit, you look in the mirror and you tell yourself: “There, that’s it.” The suit does all the work for you. In fact, you’re not playing Batman, but Bruce Wayne. That’s when the character becomes complicated and interesting. Batman himself is already a strong emblematic figure. It would be a mistake to overplay him.

What do you think of the two suits you get to wear in the movie?

Ben Affleck: I really like their design. They’re faithful to Frank Miller’s vision in The Dark Knight Returns comic. In fact the movie borrows a lot from that comic, as noted by our use of the massive and very symbolic battle armor. They’re pretty heavy and cumbersome in the end. The challenge was to create fight scenes where I could move with ease, which is tough. The suits have to look cool and be functional at the same time. One thing that couldn’t be done before but is finally possible now is to wear the suit without the arms. They put motion sensors on my arms to recreate the rest of the suit in post production. And that allowed me to move my arms freely without looking like a robot during fight scenes. I think it was the first time an actor could have all that flexibility and move his head in a Batsuit!

What was the biggest challenge for you personally on this film?

Ben Affleck: That filming took so long – 140 days – and that everything was so compartmentalized, fragmented. It was tough to recall where a particular scene fit in the overall story, or to understand those moments that were stuck between SFX heavy shots which would be completed in post. I’m not used to that type of filmmaking, I can’t switch to cruise control, I have to restart the engine every time. For instance today I’ll only be filming shots of about ten seconds or so, which will then be edited to build an entire scene. I’m more used to shooting a whole scene in order to try different things. This time around it’s very technical, and you don’t really have much freedom amid all those visual effects.

Why is Luthor the right villain for this film?

Ben Affleck: Between the character that was written by Chris Terrio and Jesse Eisenberg’s portrayal, it’s the meeting of two great minds, on the same wavelength. Luthor is, for me, the most interesting character in the film. He’s radically different from what we’ve seen so far. He’s grounded in reality, and he’s extraordinary. This type of film is only as good as its villain. That’s why The Dark Knight was so brilliant, because of Heath Ledger’s Joker. Jesse improves the film with each scene he’s in. He’s not your usual one-dimensional villain, there’s a whole psychology behind him.

Does Batman v Superman speak about the current world?

Ben Affleck: I don’t think this film has any sort of lesson, but it’s more than just entertainment, it’s also trying to show that there are real consequences to violence. When a building collapses, people die, and those are lives lost forever. This film also shows that fear is the enemy of us all. Fear brings out the worst in us. When we fear powerful people because we think they might destroy us, we tend to use that to justify any decision we might be tempted to make. There are some parallels with preemptive strikes, and things like that. It allows us to analyze how we think about what we do, when facing a threat. That’s very relevant to what’s going on in the world right now. The film tackles pertinent themes.

In conclusion, in a fight between Superman and Batman, who wins?

Ben Affleck: Well… When you see the film, you’ll realize it’s more complicated than that! There’s no real winner. I like the idea that Truth is the winner.

HENRY CAVILL

How has Superman evolved since Man of Steel?

Henry Cavill: Superman himself isn’t that different. He does however have to deal with a new set of problems because he’s now been revealed to the world. This film is more about how the world in general – and Batman in particular – sees this alien, and less about the evolution of Superman. We’re seeing Superman and Batman together for the first time in a movie, with flesh-and-blood actors. They’re two sides of the same coin. They have the same goal, but use very different methods to achieve it. Understandably, that leads them to clash with one another, and their conflict is a historic moment.

How do you plan to portray Clark Kent, the journalist?

Henry Cavill: Comparisons with Christopher Reeve’s clumsy Clark Kent are inevitable. My Clark Kent is trying to be as small and invisible as possible. If you’re awkward and spilling things constantly, people are going to notice you, and that’s not the best way to go unseen. You have to admit, it’s not a remarkable disguise, just a pair of glasses. He’d like to think that no one will believe he could be Superman. How could such a delicate flower be a living god? Preposterous.

Superman’s suit will evolve from one film to the next, even if they’re just minor updates.

How is the one featured in Batman v Superman different?

Henry Cavill: It’s easier to take it off when I have to relieve myself! Suddenly my life is much less complicated.

Fearing the actions of a god-like Super Hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs.  And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before.

Directed by Zack Snyder, the film also stars Oscar nominees Amy Adams (“American Hustle,” “Man of Steel”) as Lois Lane, Jesse Eisenberg (“The Social Network”) as Lex Luthor, Diane Lane (“Unfaithful,” “Man of Steel”) as Martha Kent, and Laurence Fishburne (“What’s Love Got to Do with It,” “Man of Steel”) as Perry White; Oscar winners Jeremy Irons (“Reversal of Fortune”) as Alfred, and Holly Hunter (“The Piano”) as Senator Finch; and Gal Gadot (the “Fast and Furious” films) as Wonder Woman/Diana Prince.

Snyder directed from a screenplay written by Chris Terrio and David S. Goyer, based on characters from DC Comics, including Batman, created by Bob Kane with Bill Finger, and Superman, created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. The film is produced by Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder, with Wesley Coller, Geoff Johns and David S. Goyer serving as executive producers.

Gal Gadot Talks Wonder Woman: Henry Cavill & Zack Snyder React To Trinity In Batman Vs. Superman

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22598:]]

Check out what Gal Gadot had to say about Wonder Woman in Batman Vs. Superman in the latest issue of Total Film Magazine, as well as Heny Cavill, Zack Snyder and Deborah Snyder talking about when the DC Trinity first came together.

Gal Gadot on Lynda Carter:

I think that the Lynda Carter version was very relevant back in the 70s. Now, Zack Snyder is in collaboration with Patty Jenkins, who’s going to direct [the solo Wonder Woman] movie. All of us want to evolve the character because what you saw back then, you’ve already seen. So we’re going to give it another layer of interpretation and make her a bit more relevant and a bit more up to date.

Gal Gadot on the first time all three were in costume:

It was crazy! You don’t do fittings together. You do them separately. But the first time they shot the trio, it was almost magical. On the one hand, when you think about it realistically, it’s kind of weird to stand there, all three of us as superheroes. And then, when we started to shoot, Ben became Batman, Henry became Superman, and I became Wonder Woman. I can’t even express in words how excited I was.

How it feels to be starting on the Wonder Woman movie, which starts filming in November:

It feels amazing, but for some reason, I feel like it’s not for me. The Wonder Woman is a story that needs to be told. I’m so happy it’s me to tell that story. I think there is no better time than now, and it’s about time we should this amazing heroine on the big screen.

Zack Snyder on Wonder Woman’s story in Batman Vs. Superman:

That I think is an interesting story point. I don’t think it’s time to ruin that yet. But I will say they share a mutual interest. They – all three of them – are in a weird way looking for a similar thing. They’re on the same track.

Zack Snyder on the DC Trinity first coming together:

There was actually a moment in the costume test where there was Batman, Superman, and we were testing the Wonder Woman costume at the same time. They were all standing there. I was like, ‘Oh, my lord, this is crazy.’ It’s crazy enough just to see the two of those guys together. Once you see the trinity…”

Henry Cavill on the first time:

When you stand there, you realize, ‘Oh wow, this is history right here – comic book history.’ And when you see the photo, that’s when you go, ‘OK, cool, right. I get why people were standing there agog during the photoshoot.

Deborah Snyder on seeing Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman for the first time:

The first day that she was in costume and she came out, I literally got teared up. It really didn’t hit me to how historical the moment was, because she’s not been on the big screen ever. She’s 75 years old next year.

Wonder Woman gets released in 2017.
