Robert Downey Jr. Hints At More Tony Stark (Video)

Though Robert Downy Jr. recently stated there are no plans for Iron Man 4, the actor hints that he will play Tony Stark again.

Robert Downey Jr. will be featured as Iron Man next May for The Avengers 2 and is signed on for The Avengers 3.

The big question on everyone’s mind is: Will he do Iron Man 4?

THR caught up with Robert Downey Jr. and asked if will be back in the Tony Stark suit.

“I’m sure we’ll ride that thing. You’ve got to surf that all the way in to shore,” he said.

Robert Downey Jr. continues with mention that eventually he’ll find another wave to ride.

“I think I was at the forefront of something that was coming into being, and I think it has carried me as much as I have informed it. That’s the healthy way to look at it. It’s so easy to become inflated by the successes, but what they really are are long, strong trends. It’s just another wave.”

Previous to stating there were not plans for Iron Man 4, Robert Downey Jr. did stated that it was up to Marvel and Disney to make him an offer.

Robert Downey Jr. Says No Plans For Iron Man 4

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:17093:]]

Robert Downey Jr. is confirmed for The Avengers 2 as well as The Avengers 3, but not for Iron Man 4.

It was previously thought that Iron Man 4 might be in development as apparently the movie was mentioned on a Marvel Studios audience questionnaire.

However, now it is learned there are no current plans for Iron Man 4 according to Robert Downey Jr.

“There isn’t one in the pipe,” Downey told Variety. “No, there’s no plan for a fourth Iron Man.”

The report also mentions Robert Downey Jr. was reluctant to sign on to anymore superhero films besides the two Avengers sequels.

When mention was made if Robert Downey Jr. would let someone replace him as Iron Man, the actor laughed it off.

“I like that the idea is that it would be up to me, like I’m casting director for Marvel,” he laughed.

Just this past July, Robert Downey Jr. stated Iron Man 4 was up to Marvel and Disney to come up with an offer, and then it would be up to him to agree or disagree.

From the recent statements above, we can gather either Marvel hasn’t come up with an agreement, or Robert Downey Jr. didn’t accept the offer.

July also saw Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige mention there will absolutely be more Iron Man films and compared the character to a Batman or James Bond, with the reference obviously meaning new actors for the role of Iron Man at some point.

The Avengers 2 hits May 1, 2015 with “Age Of Ultron; The Avengers 3 is speculated for a 2018 release.

Robert Downey Jr. In Iron Man 4?: Sounds Like It’s Up To Disney

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:16444:]]

Will Robert Downey Jr. return for Iron Man 4?

That question is currently up in the air, but Robert Downey Jr. seemed to insinuate in a recent interview that it’s up to Disney and Marvel.

“It’s down to Kevin [Feige, Marvel Studios president] and Ike [Perlmutter, CEO of Marvel Entertainment] and Disney to come to us with what the proposal is, and that’s on us to agree or disagree,” Downey told EW.com. “When things are going great, there’s a lot of agreement.”

Regarding things going great, Robert Downey Jr. answered the questions on the set of The Avengers 2, where he indicated everything is presently a-okay.

“Right now, this has just been swell, hasn’t it?” he said with a big smile. “This has been a really good one and it feels good and we’re having a good time.”

Downey Jr. is presently the highest paid actor in Hollywood, earning $75 million this past year, thanks in part to last year’s highest grossing movie, Iron Man 3

It’s previously been said that when a new Tony Stark is cast, they could go the route of a James Bond, meaning sticking with the continuity, but using a new actor (and one at a much cheaper cost).

It’s possible with Marvel Studios recently announcing a slate of new movies that we could find out if RDJ will return for Iron Man 4 this weekend at Comic-Con.

Hulk Standalone Film Being Considered Says Mark Ruffalo (Video)

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:15848:]]

With Mark Ruffalo’s portrayal of both Banner and the Hulk in The Avengers being so popular, Mark Ruffalo now says Marvel Studios is considering a new Hulk standalone film.

Speaking in the following video, Ruffalo is asked about the possibility of a Hulk movie.

I think they are for the first time sort of entertaining the idea of it. When we did Avengers 1 it was basically “no.” And now I think there is some consideration for it, but still nothing definitive. Not even a skeletal version of what it would be. I look forward to going down that road if we could crack the nut. I think the Banner/Hulk storyline is not an easy nut to crack. If they did Iron Man 4 and Banner is in that, that would be very cool.

Hulk and Banner have a larger role in The Avengers 2 as well.

Iron Man 4 Looks To Be In The Works

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:14884:]]

Some information regarding Iron Man 4 has made its way online.

A blogger for Cinema Blend was at a local movie theater to see Captain America 2 when apparently Marvel Studios representatives asked the audience to participate in a questionnaire.

Of relevance was a question that asked what film they looked forward to seeing, with the Marvel movies that are already known to be coming out listed, but also listed is Iron Man 4.

Check out the image below.

There hasn’t been anything official in regards to Iron Man 4 or the return of Robert Downey Jr, who is known to be only signed on for The Avengers 2 and The Avengers 3.

There has been talk of Robert Downey Jr. getting replaced similar to what has been done with James Bond — meaning no reboot, just a continuation of the character using a new actor.

It’s possible Iron Man 4 could already be in development, or Disney is using the survey as a way of gauging interest to greenlight more Iron Man films.

Regarding the listed movies, Captain America 3 has been announced to have a May 6, 2016 release, and Thor 3 has writers already attached. The Avengers 2 hits May 1, 2015, with Ant-Man on July 31st.

The Avengers 3 Rumored For Marvel Studios Phase 3 Plans; Guardians of the Galaxy 2 In Doubt?

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:13726:]]

Another batch of rumors regarding the plans of Disney and Marvel Studios has hit the net.

This time it’s being said that a sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy is in doubt, and that Guardians is essentially a standalone movie.

The previous rumor had Guardians of the Galaxy 2 going head-to-head on May 6, 2016 against Batman Vs. Superman.

Now SchmoesKnow.com says that is not the case.

Of course it’s noted if Guardians of the Galaxy does well at the box office, then a sequel would be likely. But regarding any talk within Marvel Studios about Guardians of the Galaxy 2, according to their sources that seems unlikely at the moment.

The report also has information on the Marvel Studios Phase 3 plans, which isn’t all that surprising.

It’s said Ant-Man, Captain America 3, Thor 3, Doctor Strange and The Avengers 3 are all a part of the Phase 3 plans.

Mention is also made of Black Panther and Inhumans movies, but it’s said they are more or less just in development and don’t have any concrete plans right away.

It’s further said to expect announcements regarding Marvel Studios Phase 3 Plans at Comic-Con or possibly before.

We see no mention is made of Iron Man 4 as well.

No Marvel Studios Phase 3 Announcements For A Year; Big Things At Disney’s D23 Expo; Feige Talks Iron Man 4

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:9769:]]

We get a couple of updates on the future plans of Marvel Studios from president and producer Kevin Feige who mentions their Phase 3 slate of movies and the upcoming D23 Expo.

Feige is asked by The Collider when fans can expect an announcement regarding the Phase 3 2016 and 2017 movies, thought to include Doctor Strange, with the man behind Marvel’s films stating “at the earliest, a year from now.”

About a month or so following Comic-Con, Disney also holds their big corporate event in Anaheim with the D23 Expo where it’s been confirmed that Star Wars and Marvel Studios will have a presence.

Feige is asked about showing up at the D23 Expo with the producer stating they will “absolutely” be there, and that it’s Disney’s most “unique, big, and important corporate event.”

Mention is also made regarding the future of Robert Downey Jr. as well as an “Iron Man 4,” with Feige offering that Tony Stark is their Batman, their James Bond, that RDJ will be featured in The Avengers 2 and 3, and of course there will be more.

“I believe Tony Stark is as strong a character as Batman,” Feige said. “We’re about to head into our fifth or sixth Batman – however, you wanna look at it – James Bond, etc.  So, there will absolutely be future Tony Starks and future Iron Mans. Who makes those movies, and when those movies are made, who knows?”

The Avengers 2 assembles May 1, 2015 with Iron Man 3 on May 3, 2013, Thor: The Dark World on November 8, 2013, Captain America: Winter Soldier on April 4, 2014, the Guardians of the Galaxy movie on August 1, 2014 and Ant-Man on November 6, 2015..

Robert Downey Jr. Confirmed For The Avengers 2 & 3; No Mention Of Iron Man 4

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:8864:]]

Disney has announced that Robert Downey Jr. will return as Iron Man for The Avengers 2 and 3.

Robert Downey Jr. has signed a two-picture agreement that will see the actor star as Tony Stark and Iron Man for The Avengers 2 and The Avengers 3, announced Marvel.com.

No menion is made of an “Iron Man 4.”

Previous to the announcement there was talk that Marvel Studios and the cast of The Avengers were having their own battle over finances, with it said Robert Downey Jr. was backing his fellow Assemblers.

Most recently, director Joss Whedon stated he wouldn’t do The Avengers 2 without the actor.

Now it appears that everything has worked itself out, but the question of an “Iron Man 4” still remains.

The Avengers 2 has a May 1, 2015 release, and Disney announced two new release dates for unnamed movies, which could be for The Avengers 3 with either May 6th 2016 or May 5th 2017. Most likely the latter would be the date for The Avengers 3.

Robert Downey’s Jr.’s last two Marvel Studios films with The Avengers and Iron Man 3 have brought in over $2.7 billion worldwide.

Gwyneth Paltrow Says No Iron Man 4

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:7197:]]Gwyneth Paltrow wants to rain on everybody’s parade.

She previously said she might not be in The Avengers 2 as she is getting “too old for this sh-t,” and now she says she thinks they are done with Iron Man.

Meaning no Iron Man 4.

Even though director Shane Black just said Robert Downey Jr. will be back, Paltrow offers the following to the Kevin McCarthy Show (via Bleeding Cool).

I don’t think there’s going to be [an Iron Man 4]. I think we’re done with Iron Man.

Robert Downey Jr. recently made comments about retiring from the character, and he doesn’t look to be signed on as of yet for any additional movies.

It’s also interesting to note that there have been a couple comments hinting at the use of different Assemblers for future Avengers movies.

We’ve also heard that Marvel Studios may go the James Bond route for Tony Stark, meaning getting a new actor and continuing the same story, instead of doing a reboot.

So it could very well be that there will be no “Iron Man 4,” most likely that depends on what Robert Downey Jr. wants to do.

Gwyneth Paltrow was also named and landed the cover to People Magazine’s World’s Most Beatutiful Woman.

Iron Man 3 blasts off May 3rd, 2013 directed by Shane Black and starring Robert DowneyJr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Ben Kingsley, Guy Pearce and James Badge Dale.

Robert Downey Jr. To Return For Iron Man 4 Says Shane Black

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:7034:]]

While attending the UK Premiere for Iron Man 3, director Shane Black stated that Robert Downey Jr. will be back for Iron Man 4.

“I think he’ll be back for another one. I’m sure of it,” Black told Bang Showbiz.

There has been recent question as of late if Robert Downey Jr. would return for Iron Man 4 as most recently the actor questioned how much longer he would be involved.

He recently talked with GQ about retiring from the character.

“This period of time, this shall pass,” Robert Downey Jr. said. “Fortunately I’ve been around the block enough — I’m not ill-prepared. And I love change. I love it when a lightning bolt hits the genny and you’re down for two hours on the set. Now, this isn’t a lightning strike, this is like the warning of a gathering storm.”

The gathering storm would be referring to the injury the actor suffered on the set while filming Iron Man 3 which resulted in a twisted ankle.

“It got me thinking about how big the message from your cosmic sponsor needs to be before you pick it up,” he continued. “How many genre movies can I do? How many follow-ups to a successful follow-up are actually fun?”

Robert Downey Jr. is also not officially signed on for The Avengers 2, but talks are underway.

“Me, the agents and the lawyers are having a bit of a ball right now,” he said.

With Black’s stating that he is sure Robert Downey Jr. will back, that could possibly also hint that the director will return for Iron Man 4 as well.

It’s also been said that when Downey Jr. does decided to hang up his repulsor blasters, that Marvel Studios will go in a direction similar to James Bond, in that they won’t totally reboot the character.

Iron Man 3 blasts off May 3rd, 2013 directed by Shane Black and starring Robert DowneyJr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Ben Kingsley, Guy Pearce and James Badge Dale.

Robert Downey Jr. All But Says Guardians of the Galaxy In Iron Man 3

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:5308:]]

There was a previous rumor that the Guardians of the Galaxy movie is going to feature Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man; however, it was shot down by director James Gunn.

There is also the fact that the new Guardians of the Galaxy Marvel comic book has Iron Man featured right at forefront.

In addition, a new Iron Man 3 space suit was revealed in the form of a toy for the movie.

Update: And Thanos and Drax first appeared in an issue of the Iron Man comic book, #55.

Now, Robert Downey Jr. gives us a huge tease as to a possible cameo for Iron Man 3.

Previously, Kevin Feige was pretty adamant that none of the Avengers would be appearing, and what Downey Jr. has to say fits right with that.

Downey Jr. tells EW the following (bold my own):

The whole Avengers thing [with $1.5 billion in global box office was such a relief and such a confirmation of [Marvel Studios President] Kevin Feige’s vision for this all along. As Kevin has put it, the next step after that is to bring in someone like Shane Black and – without pretending that the Avengers don’t exist – find a way to go back to a kind of re-investigation of Tony’s world, which he thought would be, one, fun for the audience and, two, would rock in a different way than The Avengers. But we can’t help it — everywhere you look now in every Marvel movie there are opportunities where certain new pals of his could be useful. So they’re in the atmosphere, so to speak, but I wouldn’t expect to see them on the ground in this one.

“In the atmosphere” and “won’t see them on the ground.”

So it looks like the Guardians of the Galaxy movie will essentially be Iron Man 4.
