The DCU’s Supergirl movie continues to generate the wrong kind of buzz.
A new rumor claims the film’s villains are a gang of losers who kidnap women to use as sex slaves, which would be a drastic and controversial departure from the comic it’s supposedly based on.
The rumor comes from ViewerAnon on X, a scooper with a solid track record, who commented on the villain subplot with brutal sarcasm(?):
“You’ll love it.”
This comes as fans are already mocking a new Supergirl poster (looks to be fan made), which features the heroine sipping a slushie in sunglasses next to a dog, with the real tagline from the film that mocks Superman: “Truth. Justice. Whatever.”

“This Looks Gayer Than Will in Stranger Things”
ViewerAnon’s comment was in response to a viral post that mocked the poster’s tone, saying: “This looks gayer than Will being gay in Stranger Things.”
The image has drawn immediate backlash for what fans are calling a forced quirkiness and “Marvel-lite” attitude.
Again, while the poster may not be official, Supergirl’s design has been compared to Peter Quill from Guardians of the Galaxy, down to the coat, headphones, and ironic detachment.
Critics say the tone undercuts the gravity of the story it’s supposed to be adapting, and the villain rumor only makes that worse.

Woman of Tomorrow Comic Never Had That Plot
Despite being marketed as an adaptation of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow by Tom King, the movie appears to be deviating significantly from the acclaimed 2021 comic.
In the comic, Supergirl embarks on a somber space journey with a young alien girl named Ruthye, The villain, Krem of the Yellow Hills, is responsible for Ruthye’s father’s murder and is hunted across the galaxy, and the themes focus on justice vs revenge, moral complexity, and Supergirl’s emotional resilience.
Nowhere in the comic is there a plot involving sex trafficking or women being kidnapped for slavery.
That addition — if true — would be a completely fabricated element, created for the movie, which, of course, aligns with Gunn’s divisive DCU messaging.
As a result of the rumor, users on X are already stating the villains are “white men.”

Krem’s Look Reportedly Changed by Gunn
Gunn also drastically redesigned the look of Krem to fit the goofy tone.
In the comic, Krem is a sinister and cold humanoid alien. But his appearance in the movie has been made more cartoonish or comedic.
It’s just one more sign that Supergirl is becoming another DCU project that treats serious material with a goofy Marvel spin.
Recently also saw a report that Supergirl is considered a big red flag for Warner Bros. in 2026, insinuating it will flop hard.
