Milly Alcock is teasing the kind of message audiences can expect from Supergirl, and fitting with the recent trailer release, it sounds like this version of Kara Zor-El won’t be played as polished or perfect.
In an interview with Beyond Noise Magazine, Issue 5, Alcock said she hopes young girls leave the movie knowing “that it’s ok to be a bit bad, and messy.”

Milly Alcock teases the message of Supergirl
The quote lines up with what has already been said about the DCU take on Supergirl.
Rather than presenting Kara as a clean-cut copy of Superman, the new movie has been described as rougher around the edges, with a version of the character shaped by a much harsher upbringing.
That also suggests Supergirl could lean harder into the flawed, rebellious side of Kara.
Alcock’s “bad” and “messy” comment makes it sound like the film wants to embrace imperfection instead of turning the character into a standard inspirational hero.
“I think young girls should walk away from the film knowing that it’s ok to be a bit bad, and messy,” she said.
A different kind of hero from Superman
James Gunn previously said this Supergirl is tougher and not like Superman at all, while also describing the film as edgier than Superman.
So Alcock’s quote fits with that direction. The movie appears to be aiming for a Kara Zor-El who is more impulsive, more emotionally raw, and more complicated than what audiences may expect from the House of El.
What’s next for Supergirl
Supergirl gets released June 26, 2026, and is directed by Craig Gillespie and stars Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, with Jason Momoa as Lobo, Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll, and Matthias Schoenaerts as the villain, Krem of the Yellow Hills.
A rumored test screening also claims the film packs a punch and has a short runtime.
