Oscar VFX Finalists Include Quantuamania, Godzilla: Minus One, The Marvels

A list of the top 20 finalists for the Oscar VFX has been released which includes Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Godzilla: Minus One, Guardians of the Galaxy 3, and The Marvels.

Variety got ahold of the list and says it’s unofficial as the Academy declined to confirm the final list of the 20 movies.

The site points out snubs including that Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer isn’t on the list. The site also laughingly says “other notable omissions include” The Flash. That’s hilarious because The Flash VFX went unfinished and that’s why it looked so bad.

It’s also unbelievable to think Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania made the list. The flick has some really bad VFX namely with MODOK and I can remember some of those scenes with the penis buildings looked goofy AF.

Godzilla: Minus One happens to make the list on only a budget of $15 million. I just got out of an IMAX screening and liked the flick a lot. I think with what they had for the budget the VFX look really good. Better than Ant-Man and The Flash.

Of the following 20, the Academy will narrow it down to five nominees for Best VFX.

Last year, King James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of the Water won Best VFX, beating out All Quiet on the Western Front, The Batman, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and Top Gun: Maverick.

The 2024 Oscar Nominations will be announced Jan. 23.
