New Mutants Still Happening

With the big announcement about the Stephen King The Stand event TV series, which is being directed by Josh Boone, comes word that the X-Men New Mutants movie is apparently still happening.

In Deadline‘s report about The Stand, it is noted, “Boone is in post-production on X-Men spinoff The New Mutants, which he co-wrote and directs. It’s slated for release in August.”

Following the New Mutants trailer release in October 2017, there hasn’t been any sign of promoting the movie. Last Summer also saw the big rumor the movie was getting canceled and might be released through a streaming service (maybe Disney Plus?). Most recently also saw it rumored that X-Force, Gambit and Doctor Doom movies have been canceled, though it should be noted none of those movies started production. Fox also has X-Men: Dark Phoenix coming out in June and has been barely promoting that as well, though a new trailer is expected soon.

Back in December also saw Fox Studios announce their upcoming release date schedule, which does include New Mutants, so as of now the movie is still happening. The Disney-Fox deal goes through before June, so New Mutants will be under Disney come August, but it is unknown if the deal will affect any of Fox’s release dates that are already scheduled.

New Mutants is scheduled for an August 2, 2019 release directed by Josh Boone, written by Boone and Knate Lee, produced by Simon Kinberg, Karen Rosenfelt and Lauren Shuler Donner, starring Anya Taylor-Joy, Maisie Williams, Charlie Heaton, Henry Zaga, Blu Hunt and Alice Braga.
