Marvel Fixing Daredevil: Born Again With More Action and Violence

Once again confirming what I said, Marvel will be fixing Daredevil: Born Again with more action and violence.

In THR’s report from a week ago about the series getting an overhaul (I was specifically told it was getting retooled), it’s mentioned, “Corman and Ord crafted a legal procedural that did not resemble the Netflix version, known for its action and violence.”

While leaking the original plans, Twitter scooper CanWeGetSomeToast was asked by a fan about the tone following the rewrites.

The account replied, “The rewrites are to add more action and violence to Born Again.”

A fan replied with the hope Marvel still uses the plot details involving White Tiger.

CanWeGetSomeToast added, “The overarching story should still be there, but they might cut some of this down. They’re reworking the show because it seemingly had too much courtroom drama, and not enough action and violence.”

What do insiders say?

We know they were going a goofier route as Charlie Cox confirmed as much in an interview back in 2022 when he said the following in an attempt to sell the goofy Daredevil version to fans offering they can appeal to a slightly younger audience (via nme):

“This has to be a reincarnation, it has to be different, otherwise why are we doing it?” he says. The episode of She-Hulk, in which he had a one-night stand with the title character, showed Murdock as “quick-witted and funny and charismatic and carefree at times,” which is very different from the brooding Netflix version. “My opinion is this character works best when he’s geared towards a slightly more mature audience. My instinct is that on Disney+ it will be dark but it probably won’t be as gory.” He knows there are people who will be hoping for simply a continuation of the previous series. “I would say to those people, we’ve done that. Let’s take the things that really worked, but can we broaden? Can we appeal to a slightly younger audience without losing what we’ve learned about what works?”

Well, that obviously didn’t work out, and regarding what Marvel insiders filled me in at Comic-Con in July, they said Daredevil: Born Again in its current form is a complete disaster and isn’t any good but will be retooled to fix things.

I was told that the direction of the series followed Daredevil from the She-Hulk series: “Yes, goofy as hell.”

“Marvel is retooling Daredevil: Born Again to line it up with the tone of the Netflix show and that Marvel is fixing things,” is what they said.

THR’s details include that Kevin Feige fired the writers and directors and is seeking a showrunner to lead the series.

Leaks offer the first four episodes don’t feature Charlie Cox in the Daredevil suit at all and that Matt Murdock quit being Daredevil for a year, with the plot revolving around the trial of the White Tiger.

News of Daredevil: Born Again getting retooling also follows the failure of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania said to be a big surprise to Feige and Marvel, and the failure of Secret Invasion which is leading to a new direction for Marvel TV.

In related news, Vincent D’Onofrio recently quit social media.
