Again confirming what I first told you, it’s revealed the bozos at Marvel actually told the creatives in charge of developing Daredevil: Born Again not to watch the Netflix show.
Recall how Marvel also told its execs not to read the comics while developing shows about comic books, and of course, Sam Raimi never watched WandaVision while developing Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. I could go on…
Regarding Daredevil: Born Again, the editors who worked on the show confirm that the original plan was to have the series be a lot different than the popular Netflix series. Feige put Charlie Cox in the goofy She-Hulk show, so that was the plan for the MCU’s Daredevil. However, due to the big failure of Feige’s post-Endgame approach, including massive bombs on Disney+ with Secret Invasion, the decision was made to retool Daredevil: Born Again.

What did the editors say about Daredevil: Born Again?
While speaking with Awards Radar, editor Stephanie Filo revealed Daredevil was originally going to be different and they were told not to watch the Netflix series:
“The original take on it was to lean away from the Netflix Daredevil show. They actually told us not to watch the Netflix show, because they didn’t want to affect how we were editing it. Once we restructured everything and figured out we would do a different take on it, we dove back into the Netflix side of things. We were able to use temp music from that Netflix series, and get back to that darker vibe.”
Likewise, Cedric Nairn-Smith, who also served as an editor, confirmed they retooled Daredevil: Born Again:
“Sometimes, we would iterate these episodes, and would be asked at times to intercut these scenes. We thought intercuts would not work because they weren’t intended to be intercut. However, once we started intercutting, we found out that there were common threads here. It felt like it was a happy accident that these inner cuts worked, and that you would find these connections. A lot of it was trial and error trying to find those threads, but some of it was also planned.”

What’s next for Daredevil?
Ultimately, it seems they didn’t go far enough in fixing Daredevil: Born Again, as it’s one of the least-watched MCU shows on Disney+. Hopefully, things continue to improve with Season 2, which is in development. Krysten Ritter is confirmed back as Jessica Jones.
The series also brought back Jon Bernthal as The Punisher, who is currently developing a Punisher Special for Disney+, and it was recently confirmed Bernthal will be starring in Spider-Man 4 (Punisher’s first appearance in the comics is The Amazing Spider-Man #129).
