Thanks to the Creature Commandos animated series, it looks as if we do indeed get a first look at James Gunn’s Wonder Woman, albeit in animated form.
First Look at Wonder Woman in Gunn’s DCU
The teaser that was revealed after the first two episodes revealed what was thought to be an Amazonian, and now the teaser for Episode 4 seemingly confirms it’s Wonder Woman with the inclusion of the tiara.
While Gunn has remained tight-lipped about Wonder Woman’s role in the DCU, it’s widely speculated that Gal Gadot’s time as the character has come to an end.
Gunn’s announcement of Paradise Lost, a series focused on Themyscira (which is mentioned in Creature Commandos), suggests a new take on the character and possibly Wonder Woman’s origins.
The Role of Creature Commandos in the DCU
James Gunn has said that Creature Commandos will serve as an important part of the new DCU, blending animated and live-action storytelling, with the actors also playing their live-action counterparts. The teaser for Episode 4 (watch below) not only shows Wonder Woman but also teases appearances by a blood-soaked David Corenswet Superman and possibly Isabela Merced’s Hawkgirl.
Interestingly, the preview depicts Peacemaker (John Cena) seemingly dead, as well. Peacemaker Season 2 is in the works and is thought to be getting released later next year.
What About Batman?
Since Gunn includes both Superman and Wonder Woman, to the right of the Man of Steel just might be Gunn’s Batman which would complete the DC Trinity. While I believe Gunn has announced that Batman will first appear in the upcoming Brave and the Bold (Gunn has said it’s not ready yet), worth a mention this is a vision that Circe showed to Waller, so obviously there is question if it’s real or if it will come to fruition.
Updates on Paradise Lost
Gunn recently confirmed the Paradise Lost series is in “very active development.” While the series is set in Themyscira, it remains unclear if Wonder Woman will play a central role or if the show will focus exclusively on the political dynamics of the Amazons.
The official synopsis of Paradise Lost describes the series as:
Set in Themyscira, home of the Amazons and birthplace of Wonder Woman, this drama focuses on the genesis and political intrigue of an island of all women
Whether Wonder Woman herself will appear in the series also remains unknown.
New episodes of Creature Commandos get released on Thursday. Episode 3 review here.
