‘Superman’ Trailer Said To Debut Next Week Focusing On Krypto

The Superman trailer from James Gunn is again said to be debuting next week, which fits with all the recent speculation that the trailer will be released in time for Christmas. It’s also claimed that the trailer will focus on Krypto.

When does the Superman trailer get released?

James Gunn has yet to confirm when the Superman trailer will be released. As we have been going over, it’s thought to be released next week in time to play in front of Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King which gets released on Dec. 20. Gunn has already shot down claims the trailer will be released next Monday, so we are guessing possibly Tuesday, Wednesday or early Thursday, which lines up with those reports that Gunn is supposed to be holding a big press event next week.

News the Superman trailer gets released next week comes via Puck News which is run by a former editor at THR and an entertainment lawyer. The site says the Superman trailer is “debuting next week.”

In its report on the release dates for Clayface and Dynamic Duo, Deadline also says: “the trailer to James Gunn’s Superman is dropping early next week.”

What will the Superman trailer show?

While we originally thought it would be similar to James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy 3 trailers, it’s now claimed the first Superman trailer is more of a teaser. We can guess if that is the case, it might be setting up a larger trailer release, maybe around the time of the Super Bowl, as Gunn and Marvel released a Guardians of the Galaxy 3 Super Bowl trailer last year.

Puck News says they are hearing, “Also, the star of the big ‘Superman’ trailer debuting next week is apparently… a dog?”

Krypto as the star of the Superman trailer

Krypto being the star of the trailer actually isn’t surprising. Gunn recently released that first-look image, and Gunn confirmed the character is based on his own dog. Everyone knows Gunn has a thing for animals. He recently told Josh Horowitz that dogs are his favorite animal, and of course, animals are featured prominently in Guardians of the Galaxy with Rocket Raccoon and such.

What has James Gunn said about Krypto?

“Krypto arrives on screens in Superman this summer,” Gunn posted on social media when the image was first released. “Krypto was inspired by our dog Ozu, who we adopted shortly after I started writing Superman. Ozu, who came from a hoarding situation in a backyard with 60 other dogs & never knew human beings, was problematic to say the least. He immediately came in & destroyed our home, our shoes, our furniture – he even ate my laptop. It took a long time before he would even let us touch him.”

Gunn continued, “I remember thinking, ‘Gosh, how difficult would life be if Ozu had superpowers?’ – and thus Krypto came into the script & changed the shape of the story as Ozu was changing my life. What better time to debut the not-so-good-good-boy Krypto than AdoptaShelterDog month.  Btw, Ozu today, is, fairly often, a very good boy.”

Larger reveal later?

So the Superman trailer might not really be a trailer at all, but a Krypto promo that leads to a bigger reveal, possibly in February or another time, with a better look at David Corenswet.

James Gunn’s Superman gets released July 11, 2025 also starring Clark Kent and the new Man of Steel, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, described as “imposing” and “dangerous.”
