Superman Trailer Delayed? James Gunn Casts Doubt On December Release

James Gunn now casts doubt that the Superman trailer will be released in December.

While Gunn seemed to tease the trailer would be released soon (which depends on your frame of reference), Gunn was asked by a fan on Threads if the Superman trailer was still being released in December.

Gunn’s reply? “Still?”

James Gunn never confirmed December for the Superman trailer release

It’s worth pointing out that James Gunn never confirmed a Superman trailer release for December. There was speculation it might drop at CCXP, but Gunn said he wasn’t attending. CCXP came and went and no trailer.

Rumors about the release

Collider said the Superman trailer would get released around Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King, which is next week and right in time for Christmas. Gunn never commented on that.

Grace Randolph added she heard Gunn was holding a big press event the week of the 16th, which lines up with Disney’s release of Mufasa next Thursday/Friday. Gunn only shot down the speculation the Superman trailer would drop on that Monday, with a “No.”

As we just went over, we speculated the Superman trailer for next week Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. I even asked a buddy of mine in Hollywood who runs a big movie theater if he knew if the trailer was attached to Mufasa. He told me they find out the day before the movie gets released.

Now we see Gunn shedding doubt on a possible December release.

Gunn not happy?

Interestingly, recall that recent rumor how the studio isn’t happy with the trailer. Gunn chimed in and said he is the studio, so from that, it made it seem as if Gunn wasn’t happy with the trailer — yet.

As I have been going over, I know the trailer has been worked on since Comic-Con. Gunn confirmed an editor/editors have been working on the Superman trailer.

It could be possible that he doesn’t think the trailer is ready to be released.

Any guesses?

Marvel did release a Guardians of the Galaxy 3 Super Bowl trailer last year. That would definitely put some eyes on the Superman trailer. However, I can’t see Zaslav coughing up the dough unless it doesn’t play during The Big Game and is released online.

Superman flies into theaters on July 11, 2025 starring David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, and Nicholas Hoult.
