James Gunn shoots down a claim the Superman trailer will be released on Dec. 16.
A fan questioned Gunn on Threads, “There has been some reports on Twitter that your Superman trailer will be released December 16. Is this true and if not, can you please tell us.”
Gunn replied, “Nope.”
What do the reports say about the Superman trailer release on Dec. 16?
Regarding what the reports say about Dec. 16, they actually say the Superman trailer will be released AFTER Dec. 16, so technically, Gunn is correct.
Recently saw YouTuber Grace Randolph, who is no fan of Gunn and vice versa, offer James Gunn is going to hold a big press event for select members of the media the week of Dec. 16. She added the Superman trailer will drop sometime after that event.
So again, that means the trailer will not be released on Dec. 16 and Gunn is correct.
When will the Superman trailer be released?
As we have been going over, the best guess is the Superman trailer will be released around Christmas. We figure Gunn wants as many eyeballs in front of the trailer as possible, so that means, the Superman trailer will likely be released with Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King on or around Dec. 20.
If Randolph is correct, the big press event will be held prior to Dec. 20, so possibly on Tuesday, Dec. 17. Then the press will obviously be promoting the release and saying how great it is and things of that nature.
We’ve ruled out the trailer being released this week at the CCXP because James Gunn has confirmed he won’t be there.
We’ve also ruled out the trailer dropping with the release of The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim on Dec. 13 because, well, it’s an anime/animated movie and the box office is estimated to open low, which means not a lot of fans in attendance.
Frank Grillo recently said the trailer is great and that David Corenswet will be a superstar and even compared the actor to Christopher Reeve.
Superman flies into theaters on July 11, 2015 and stars David Corenswet as the new Man of Steel, with Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.
