Those wishful-thinking claims about a sequel happening aren’t true. Following reported remarks by Bob Iger, Kevin Feige has now confirmed that Eternals 2 isn’t in the works.
The first Eternals massively bombed at the box office and with both critics and fans. Excuses blaming Covid don’t hold up as just one month following, Spider-Man: No Way Home exploded at the box office with over a billion dollars.
Much like most of the past five years worth of the MCU from Feige, Eternals is full of bad writing with just as bad actors and characters. I also honestly think Eternals is Feige’s answer to DC’s Justice League, much like Captain America: Civil War was Feige’s answer to Batman vs. Superman. Well, Eternals ended up being a big mess, and a sequel isn’t happening.
Worth a mention is that apparently Kumail Nanjiani has now jumped ship and joined James Gunn in the DCU. Numerous claims state Kumail Nanjiani is playing Booster Gold for James Gunn. Kumail Nanjiani played Kingo in Eternals.
What did Kevin Feige say about Eternals 2?
Speaking with Inverse, Feige told the site, “There are no immediate plans for Eternals 2.”
Eternals also happened to have that big Celestial reveal, which hasn’t been heard of since in the MCU. Feige at least says Captain America: Brave New World will “acknowledgment” it.
“There are, and I think you’ve seen maybe in a trailer we’ve released recently, an acknowledgment of some of those events. Certain giant things came out of the ocean,” says Feige referencing Tiamut Island, the land mass that formed from the Celestial.
Focus on guaranteed hits
Eternals also teased both Kit Harington as Black Knight, and Mahershala Ali as Blade. Both of those are currently on the backburner, if they ever happen.
Kit Harington has been said to be written out of previous versions of the Blade script and recently said in April that he doesn’t know what is going on with the character.
Two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali who first pitched Blade to Feige back in 2019 has also recently signed on to the Jurassic World reboot with Scarlett Johansson. Feige did recently give an update and said they are taking their time with Blade to get it right.
And Bob Iger? According to reports, the CEO of Disney thinks Eternals 2 is a guaranteed flop and wants Marvel to focus on guaranteed hits.
