Fantastic Four Rushed to Digital Release After Box Office Disaster

Fantastic Four Rushed to Digital Release After Box Office Disaster

The Fantastic Four: First Steps is heading to home release even earlier than expected, signaling another major MCU flop for Disney.

Digital and Blu-ray Release Dates

The film will hit digital platforms on September 23, two months after its theatrical release. Physical copies — 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD — arrive on October 14.

That’s sooner than previously rumored and shows Disney moving quickly to salvage what it can from the underperforming title. It’s thought the Disney+ release will come somewhere around Nov. 19.

Box Office Update

As of this past Sunday, the film has grossed:

  • Domestic (52.5%): $272,460,078
  • International (47.5%): $246,367,445
  • Worldwide: $518,827,523

The reported budget is $200M, but our insiders maintain the real figure ballooned to around $350M after extensive reshoots. With marketing costs factored in, the break-even number could be as high as $875M.

Another MCU Bomb

That means even after crossing $500M globally, Fantastic Four would still be a loss for Disney.

It joins Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts as 2025’s MCU bombs, further proof that Marvel’s once-reliable box office brand has collapsed, as reported recently by Variety.

Disney now appears to be leaning on digital and Blu-ray sales to help offset the failure, but the numbers confirm it’s yet another Kevin Feige flop.

Look for the Fantastic Four next to show up in Avengers: Doomsday.
