Pirates of the Caribbean Reboot Rumors Include Jack Sparrow’s Son, Margot Robbie

Disney appears to be moving full sail ahead on a new Pirates of the Caribbean movie, and it could mark a major reset for the franchise.

According to Jeff Sneider, the project is now a priority under the studio’s new leadership, with early details hinting at a new generation of pirates and direction.

With the upcoming exit of Bob Iger, Disney recently Josh D’Amaro has been named new CEO, and Dana Walden as President. However, in the case of Walden (who will oversee the company’s storytelling across all divisions), it’s known that she passed on Disney projects featuring white people, so there is significant concern among fans.

What are the Pirates of the Caribbean rumors?

Jack Sparrow’s Son Takes the Helm

Instead of continuing Jonny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow’s storyline, the new movie will reportedly focus on his son as the lead character.

While no casting has been announced, the approach seems to aim for a soft reboot.

Margot Robbie Returning

Margot Robbie, who was previously attached to a female-led Pirates spinoff before it was shelved, is said to be back in the mix for this revival.

While her role remains unconfirmed, it seems obvious she will play a major part in the upcoming film and new franchise going forward.

Krysty Wilson-Cairns in Talks to Write

Oscar-nominated screenwriter Krysty Wilson-Cairns, known for 1917 and Last Night in Soho, is reportedly in negotiations to write the script. Her involvement likely signals a shift toward an obviously more female-led approach to the franchise than the popular Depp films.

Johnny Depp’s Status Still Unknown

While the franchise reboot may center on Jack Sparrow’s son and Margot Robbie, it remains unclear if Johnny Depp will return.

There’s been no confirmation of a cameo or supporting role, though fan interest in his return remains high, and it’s hard to imagine Pirates without Depp.

In the previous Pirates of the Caribbean update, producer Jerry Bruckheimer confirmed that the long‑delayed sixth film is still in active development and that Margot Robbie remains attached after earlier reports suggested her project had been scrapped.

Bruckheimer explained the script has been a challenge, with two versions considered before the current draft moved forward, and longtime franchise writer Ted Elliott contributing before another writer was brought in to refine it.

On Johnny Depp’s involvement, Bruckheimer said he has spoken with Depp and believes the actor might return as Captain Jack Sparrow if he likes the script on the page, but no official deal or confirmation has been announced yet.
