This past Comic-Con saw Marvel Studios announce their Phase 4 plans with Kevin Feige offering the X-Men and Fantastic Four will be coming soon, and now Ryan Reynolds teases Deadpool for Phase 5.
Ryan Reynolds posted a “Who leaked?” image as five years ago saw the Deadpool test footage leak online, which exploded online and led to the two movies, as the Fox Studios execs didn’t want to go forth with the project.
“Investigation heading into year 5. Or as I call it, ‘Phase 5.’ The point is, I love conspiracy-yarn. #LeakAversary,” Reynolds posted on Instagram.
The “leaked” Deadpool footage was so well received that Fox greenlit the Deadpool movie which was released in 2016 and brought in a whopping $783 million on a reported $58 million budget. The sequel, released in 2018, brought in $785 million.
Deadpool coming to MCU Phase 5 with Blade?
Deadpool is now owned by Disney, due to the recent Disney Fox deal, with it recently becoming known that the character and the X-Men and Fantastic Four are now under the control of Kevin Feige.
Disney CEO Bob Iger has also touched upon Deadpool in the MCU offering that it can still be R-rated and may actually be a part of a new mature brand to set it apart from Disney and Marvel.
Comic-Con also saw the surprise announcement that Blade will be a part of the MCU Phase 5 plans, so maybe Deadpool will also be a part of that, which again, could be some sort of R-rated mature line of Marvel movies.
Interestingly enough, Feige also said the characters making up an Avengers 5 will be very different, so could the Merc with a Mouth be assembling?
Marvel’s Phase 4 looks to end with Thor 4 on November 5, 2021, so Phase 5 should kick off in 2022.
