Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Viewership Plummets: Down By 50%

Just as we went over a few days ago, now Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is showing a major drop from Season 1, according to the latest Luminate streaming data.

The latest figures shared by the company reveal that Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 has accumulated 4,515,000 season views, 10,867,000 hours watched, and 652,000,000 minutes watched to date.

In comparison, within the same timeframe, Luminate reported that Season 1 generated 8,357,000 season views, 24,000,000 hours watched, and 1,440,004,000 minutes watched.

So did Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 lose half its audience? Based on the Luminate numbers, that is what it looks like.

Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Drops Hard In Luminate Ratings

The Luminate numbers show a steep decline for Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 compared to Season 1.

Season 2’s 4.515 million season views are down from Season 1’s 8.357 million season views. That is a drop of about 46%.

The total hours watched fell even more. Season 2 has 10.867 million hours watched, compared to 24 million hours watched for Season 1. That is down nearly 55%.

The total minutes watched also tell the same story.

Season 2 has 652 million minutes watched, while Season 1 had 1.44 billion minutes watched in the same timeframe. That is down close to 55%.

That means Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 appears to have lost roughly half its audience compared to Season 1.

What Is Luminate?

Luminate is an entertainment data and analytics company that tracks trends, audience behavior, and performance across film, television, and music.

The company describes itself as an analytics platform covering entertainment data across those industries.

Its streaming reports are separate from Nielsen, meaning the two companies can offer different snapshots of how shows are performing.

Still, both sets of data point in the same direction for Daredevil: Born Again Season 2: the show is not breaking out.

Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Fails To Chart On Nielsen

Nielsen Also Showed Bad News For Daredevil

The Luminate report follows Nielsen’s latest streaming originals chart for the week of March 23-29.

The first episode of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 premiered March 24, but the series did not chart in Nielsen’s Top 10 list.

The bottom title on that chart was Peaky Blinders with 449 million minutes watched, which means Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 came in below that mark during its premiere week on Nielsen.

That followed the first season also failing to chart on Nielsen, which already raised questions about the show’s reach on Disney+.

We’ll know this week whether the Season 2 two-episode release of episodes two and three charts on Nielsen.

What happened?

The drop looks pretty easy to read: a lot of fans likely weren’t happy with Daredevil: Born Again Season 1 and decided not to come back for Season 2.

Season 1 had the built-in advantage of bringing back Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock, Vincent D’Onofrio as Kingpin, and the Daredevil brand after years of fan demand.

But once the show actually arrived, the response was more mixed than Marvel probably wanted. Instead of building momentum into Season 2, the Luminate numbers suggest a big chunk of the audience bailed.

Even Wilson Bethel, who returned as Benjamin “Dex” Poindexter/Bullseye, admitted he was frustrated with how things played out. Bethel said that he wished Season 1 had been better out of the gate.

“People have been waiting six, seven years,” he said. “How different does it hit, if out the gate, after that wait, you get like a f—kin’ banger season of TV?”

Recall how I first reported Daredevil: Born Again was a disaster and getting retooled. Seems they didn’t go far enough.

That said, Marvel is still moving forward with Daredevil: Born Again Season 3, which is currently filming. The new season is also expected to lean deeper into the street-level Marvel side, with Mike Colter back as Luke Cage and Finn Jones returning as Iron Fist.
