The Batman: Part Two Release Date Pushed Back A Year To 2027

The Batman: Part Two Release Date Pushed Back A Year To 2027

Warner Bros. announced a new release date for The Batman: Part Two pushing it back from 2026 to 2027.

The Batman: Part Two moves from Oct. 2, 2026 to Oct. 1, 2027. Originally, it was supposed to be released in 2025. The first movie was released March 2022.

Deadline and THR add filming isn’t supposed to begin on the sequel until late in the summer/third quarter. Deadline also says the sequel will be VFX heavy and will be released in IMAX. Robert Pattinson will also be filming the new Christopher Nolan movie next year.

The new WB Tom Cruise movie now takes that Oct. 2026 release date.

Update: James Gunn confirms and comments on Threads:

Sure. Yes, it is true. The only reason for the delay is there isn’t a full script (those of you who follow me here probably know that already). Matt is committed to making the best film he possibly can, and no one can accurately guess exactly how long a script will take to write. Once there is a finished script, there is around two years for pre-production, shooting and post-production on big films.

And when a fan remarked about their being a big gap between the two films, Gunn replied:

To be fair, a 5 year gap or more is fairly common in sequels. 7 years between Alien and Aliens. 14 years between Incredibles. 7 years between the first two Terminators. 13 years between Avatars. 36 years between Top Guns. And, of course, 6 years between Guardians Vol 2 and Vol 3.

Gunn also confirmed that Robert Pattinson filming the new Christopher Nolan movie wasn’t the reason:

Not at all.

The Batman: Part Two won’t be as black and white

No plot details are known but director Matt Reeves recently teased the The Batman: Part Two will be more “gray” than “black and white”:

“There’s a lot of unrest and there’s a lot of clamoring because of the revelations of what we find out at the end of the [first] movie. There’s unrest in the streets to say, ‘Well, how could this be?’ The idea that this corruption extends as deep as it extends. In the first movie, Batman views things very simplistically, he sees things in black and white. What he can represent and how he can affect that.”

“As we enter into the next movie, there’s a lot more gray. There’s a lot more people at odds. There’s a lot more division in the city. It’s a lot more like our world is now, there’s a lot of turmoil because people are in their camps, and they’re not communicating. How does Batman fit into that? Where do you fit? It’s not as clear as going, ‘Oh yeah, bad guy, I go after bad guys’. And when things are in gray, it makes it very hard to be Batman, so this is part of the challenge as we enter it.”

Reeves also recently confirmed they film next year and are still working on the script:

Yeah, we’re finishing the script. We’re going to be shooting next year.

It’s also known Colin Farrell will also be returning as Oz Cobblepot, and IMDb also lists Jeffrey Wright back as Gordon, and Andy Serkis as Alfred.

The news of the release date delay also follows claims that James Gunn wants to bring Robert Pattinson into the DCU. Recently also saw Andy Muschietti reveal that his Batman movie set in the DCU has been postponed.
