Max Minghella is in final talks to join the DCU Clayface movie, a horror-driven take on the Batman villain from DC Studios.
Cast and Crew
Minghella joins Tom Rhys Harries and Naomie Ackie in the James Watkins–directed film, which begins shooting this fall in the UK. Watkins is best known for Speak No Evil, while the script comes from The Haunting of Hill House creator Mike Flanagan.

What is Clayface about?
Clayface is described as a body-horror thriller in the style of David Cronenberg’s The Fly. The film follows an up-and-coming actor (Harries) whose face is disfigured by a gangster. He turns to a fringe scientist (Ackie) for help, leading to a disturbing transformation. Minghella will play a Gotham City detective romantically involved with the scientist.
Production and Budget and Release info
The movie’s budget is reportedly in the mid-$40 million range. DC Studios has scheduled Clayface for a September 11, 2026 release.
Minghella’s Recent Work
Minghella earned an Emmy nomination for The Handmaid’s Tale and recently wrapped season four of HBO’s Industry. His psychological thriller Shell, co-starring Elisabeth Moss, Kate Hudson, and Kaia Gerber, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival.
