Poison Ivy Series Reportedly In The Works — But Which DC Universe Gets Her?

Poison Ivy Series Reportedly In The Works — But Which DC Universe Gets Her?

DC is reportedly developing a live-action Poison Ivy series, and the most interesting question isn’t whether it happens, but whose DC it belongs to.

Scooper Jeff Sneider, speaking on The Hot Mic, reports that DC Studios “might” have a Poison Ivy TV show in the works.

He didn’t offer any further details, but while discussing the possibility, it came up in the conversation with The Penguin.

Gunn’s DCU Or Reeves’ Gotham?

The open question is which universe the series calls home: James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU, or Matt Reeves’ “Batman Epic Crime Saga,” the corner of DC that gave us The Batman and the upcoming The Batman: Part II.

The Penguin proved that Gotham’s criminal underworld can carry a series without Bruce Wayne anywhere near the center, and Poison Ivy offers a very different lens on the city, part eco-terrorist, part anti-hero, all Gotham.

According to Sneider, The Penguin is not getting a Season 2, so maybe Poison Ivy will get a series set in the ReevesVerse, which could even suggest the character debuts in The Batman: Part II, however, he did say Poison Ivy is on the goofier side which he didn’t think would work as a movie.

Reeves’ corner of DC is also busy right now, with the start of filming on The Batman: Part II already underway.

That said, nothing is locked. A DCU version under Gunn is entirely possible, especially with Poison Ivy’s profile riding high off her fan-favorite run in HBO’s Harley Quinn animated series.

The Penguin Season 2 Reportedly Dead As Colin Farrell’s Batman Role Shrinks

Sneider Has Been Busy On The DC Beat

The Poison Ivy scoop lands amid a run of Sneider DC reports.

He’s the one who recently said The Penguin won’t get a second season, and he’s been feeding the rumor mill on The Batman: Part II, including the latest on its villain casting.

As always, this is single-source and development-stage — no greenlight, no cast, no official word from DC. Treat it as a “watch this,” not a done deal.

Who Is Poison Ivy?

For the uninitiated: Pamela Isley, a.k.a. Poison Ivy, debuted in Batman #181 back in 1966.

Once a straightforward eco-terrorist villain, she’s evolved into one of DC’s most layered antiheroes, with a devoted following thanks to her comics run and her relationship with Harley Quinn. Uma Thurman played her in 1997’s Batman & Robin, the only live-action take so far, and one a modern series would surely want to leave behind.

Whether she lands in Gunn’s universe or Reeves’, a Poison Ivy series would mark the character’s first proper live-action lead. For now, file it under rumor, and keep an eye on which Gotham claims her.
