DCU Batman Postponed Amid Robert Pattinson Rumors

DCU Batman Postponed Amid Robert Pattinson Rumors

It’s learned the DCU Batman movie, The Brave and the Bold, from The Flash director Andy Muschietti is now on hold. The news follows rumors that James Gunn wants Robert Pattinson as the DCU Dark Knight. Recently also saw the news that The Batman: Part Two release date has been pushed back a year to 2027 (Gunn responds to concerns here).

Andy Muschietti focusing on new project

While recently appearing on the California Secreta podcast, Muschietti was asked about The Brave and the Bold and said he is now focusing on another movie:

“I’m now writing a science fiction movie that I would like to do… Batman is a project that’s been postponed a bit. So there could be another film before it, possibly that one.”

Brave and the Bold isn’t ready

The update from Andy Muschietti follows James Gunn recently revealing Brave and the Bold isn’t ready:

“Other things aren’t quite there yet. ‘Booster Gold‘ isn’t quite there. ‘Waller‘ isn’t quite there. ‘Brave and the Bold‘ isn’t quite there. They’re not quite where I want them to be, yet.”

Rumors

James Gunn wants Pattinson into the DCU

What Gunn could be saying is that he isn’t happy yet with the Brave and the Bold script. Gunn has made it clear that no DCU project will move forward without a completed script.

Of course, the other possibility fits with the rumor Gunn wants to bring Matt Reeves’ Batman into the DCU, played by Robert Pattinson. According to Jeff Sneider:

“I think James wants Pattinson into the DCU. I think so. I think Reeves is resistant to that. And it may be that ‘okay if we do that, yeah I need a certain amount of control about the way [Batman] and the other characters interact with him behave.”

Waiting on a good pitch

Update: Jeff Sneider is also stating that his sources have filled him in that the reason for Brave and the Bold getting delayed is that they haven’t heard a good pitch yet:

“I’m told Muschietti is not off. What I’m told [is] they just haven’t heard a pitch that they like from writers so the movie’s on the back burner, but he’s still on it.”

Matt Reeves The Batman set with Robert Pattinson

What happens to Batman in the DCU?

Worth a mention is that Matt Reeves is now involved with the DCU as he is producing the live-action Clayface movie set for a Sept 11, 2026 release date.

If the Robert Pattinson Batman does join the DCU it seems likely the Brave and the Bold will be scrapped and that Reeves will be in charge of Batman in the DCU.

It’s known that the plans for Brave and the Bold involve Bruce Wayne having a kid, Damian Wayne who is Robin, but that doesn’t fit with the Pattinson take on the Dark Knight. Gunn previously described the Brave and the Bold when the DCU was first announced:

“This is the introduction of the DCU Batman. Of Bruce Wayne and also introduces our favorite Robin, Damian Wayne, who is a little son of a bitch.”

“Assassin, murderer who Batman takes on, who is Batman’s actual son that he doesn’t know exists for the first 8-10 years of his life….it’s a strange father and son story about the two of them and based on Grant Morrison’s run of the Batman.”
