Power Rangers Fan Film Under Fire From Saban

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19348:]]Power/Rangers Director Joseph Khan with fight coordinator Don Thai Theerathda setting up a fight in the Power/Rangers fan-film

Earlier saw a Power Rangers fan-film released starring Katee Sackhoff and James Van Der Beek.

The video is up on YouTube with over 2.6 million views, but it’s learned that Vimeo has taken it down at the request of Saban, who owns the rights to Power Rangers.

Saban apparently filed a copyright infringement request with Vimeo, with Vimeo telling the director of the fan-film, music video director Joseph Khan, the following: “Vimeo is the host for your videos and as a host for user-generated content we are fully compliant with the notice and takedown provisions of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. It looks like your video was removed due to a copyright infringement claim by: Tim Quinlan, SCG Power Rangers LLC.”

Khan took to his Twitter to release a series of tweets asking fans to contact Saban to stop the harassment.

Saban is trying to shut POWER/RANGERS down,” Khan tweeted. “If you’d like to keep watching, tell them to stop harassing me.”

Khan then directed people to Saban’s customer support page at: sabranbrands.com/contact.

It probably should be noted that Khan’s Power/Rangers fan-film uses no actual Power Rangers material, but contains all original footage.

It’s unclear where the law lies on Khan’s fan-film as if it is considered a parody, then no copyright can be claimed. In addition, Khan is not getting paid, which is usually a factor in copyright claims as well. Possibly the only argument Saban could make is that Khan’s film hurts the Power Rangers brand as it’s better than anything they have put out themselves. Or the obvious opposite argument would be it’s benefiting Saban and the Power Rangers brand as it’s giving them free promotion.

“I just wanted to make Power Rangers good for once,” Kahn told Deadline. “It’s kind of a silly franchise. It was an experiment in tone; it was a challenge. I took the silliest property I could think of and tried to see if I could make it serious enough.”

Margot Robbie Signs Multi-Picture Deal For Harley Quinn

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19346:]]

In a no-brainer (and possible spoiler), Margot Robbie has signed a multi-picture deal to play Harley Quinn.

Robbie will first play Harley Quinn for David Ayer in Suicide Squad, which starts filming this Spring in Toronto.

“You don’t need to have commitment issues to be frightened by the fact that you might have just signed 10 years of your life away,” Robbie told AZCentral. “But with her, it’s a character I don’t think would ever get boring. Ever. So if they did ‘Suicide Squad One,’ ‘Two’ and ‘Three,’ I would be over the moon about it.”

Obviously with Margot Robbie signing a multi-picture deal and hoping for sequels, the character of Harley Quinn survives Suicide Squad.

Suicide Squad has an August 5, 2016 release date also starring Will Smith as Deadshot, Jared Leto as the Joker, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, Jai Courtney as Boomerang and Viola Davis is playing Amanda Waller.

Margot Robbie stars in Focus with Will Smith out this Friday.

Spider-Man Back In Trouble? Tom Rothman Named Head Of Sony Motion Picture Group

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19342:]]

It’s learned that Tom Rothman has replaced Amy Pascal and has been named the head of Sony’s motion picture group.

We’re not sure if or how this will affect plans for the new Spider-Man, but for comic book movie fans, red flags should be going off.

Rothman was recently said to have been let go from Fox due to a lackluster performance, with Rothman said to have interfered in the production of X-Men Origins: Wolverine without the director’s knowledge and apparently was also responsible for blocking the Deadpool movie (see below). Rothman was also behind X-Men: The Last Stand.

Regarding Spider-Man, Amy Pascal is spearheading the new direction as part of a new Sony venture production wing, so it’s possible Rothman’s input may be minimal. In addition, Marvel’s Kevin Feige is onboard as producer.

The Amazing Spider-Man movies ran into problems when the producers didn’t care much for director Marc Webb’s input, which obviously led to the current situation. Hopefully, history isn’t going to repeat itself with Rothman.

Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld isn’t a fan and tweeted the following about the Rothman news:

Shazam Might Be Released Earlier Says Dwayne Johnson

Dwayne Johnson will be playing Black Adam in the Shazam movie, which WB set for a 2019 release date.

Now it’s learned it’s possible the Shazam movie might be coming earlier than expected.

Dwayne Johnson was a presenter at this past Sundays’ Academy Awards. MTV caught up with the actor to get an update on Shazam.

“It may happen a little ealier than what has been predicted,” Johnson offered. “The script is coming in, it’s great. The support from the studio has been great, and it’s just a great opportunity, especially with Black Adam, where you can take a guy who starts off as a bad guy and turns into an anti-hero. We can make him vicious; a little bit of winking charm.”

Johnson also says Shazam hasn’t been cast.

“Don’t know, yet.”

Previous interviews also saw Dwayne Johnson confirm Shazam is set in the same universe as Batman Vs. Superman.

Dwayne Johnson has Fast and Furious 7 and San Andeas coming out next year.

Watch: Hans Zimmer Talks Batman Vs. Superman

Hans Zimmer is back to create the music score for Zack Snyder’s Batman vs. Superman following Man of Steel.

MTV caught up with the Oscar-award winning composer this past Sunday and asked how things are coming along.

Zimmer noted the Batman Vs. Superman score is unwritten, but he does have some ideas.

Zimmer also agreed that each Justice League character would have need to have their own music, and again stated he is not doing Batman’s music, but that he brought in his friend, Tom Holenborg (better known as Junkie XL), to do the music for the new Dark Knight Ben Affleck.

“I’m getting my friend Junkie XL to do Batman, so it’s a bit of a different tone.”

Zimmer scored the music for Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Trilogy.

“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” has a March 25, 2016 release starring Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jeremy Irons as Alfred, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Ray Fisher as Cyborg with Callan Mulvey, Holly Hunter and Tao Okamoto in new character roles for the film. Spider-Man Again Said To Be Non-White

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19337:]]

A couple of days ago saw it mentioned that Sony and Marvel’s new Spider-Man may be black or latino.

Now the source of the rumor is back at it stating while Sony is testing white actors for the role of Spider-Man, it’s thought Sony is wanting to cast a non-white actor.

The Wrap’s Jeff Sneider took to his Twitter to offer that: “White actors are still going out for Spider-Man but their reps are telling me they think Sony is leaning ‘ethnic.'”

There has been debate online as well regarding a black Peter Parker, with Marvel Comics writer Dan Slott adding his two cents on Twitter to the argument for a possible non-white Spider-Man.

Dan seems to think that the color of Peter Parker/Spider-Man is a non-factor and uses Luke Cage and Black Panther as examples of race being an integral component to the character. With that thought, Dan says that anybody can then have a chance to be Spidey.

It’s speculated that Sony needs to pick the actor soon as Spider-Man is said to first appear in Captain America: Civil War. Of course, it’s always possible Spidey could cameo in costume, and we could then see the Peter Parker actor in the Sony July 2017 Spider-Man movie.
